  1. Updated info for those interested :) if not please ignore. A few clubs have come knocking about Angus Brayshaw again, nothing doing at this stage, but watch this space. they've also asked about Christian Salem and been told a flat no. there will be a few players in brand new roles in 2020, one in particular is James harmes who will have a role imv much more suited to him I still believe Tom McDonald will end up at Essendon for 2021 as a key defender. several clubs in addition to those reported are interested in Neville Jetta. as mentioned by others there are several mature age players that are being shopped around to other clubs, there is a clearing of the decks going on. Brayden Ham is a player of interest for us and has been for a while Nathan Jones has been told there is a real possibility he won't play a game in 2021. he's essentially been retained as an assistant coach, and to also provide some depth in case of an injury. my information is he won't play unless required to play as a midfielder.

  3. I am hearing that the rest of the trade period is starting to come into focus for the MFC now that there has been more detailed discussion on a number of situations involving players. I understand that we have a bit more clarity on what might be on offer for both Hannan and Preuss and that marks a way ahead for us on a couple of other deals. I hear we are looking more closely at Phillips.

  4. Can we suspend our outrage about MFC's trading etc until after the dust has settled and all constraints clearer. Those posters who are firing off rockets are doing their own reputations no good IMO.

  5. So we don’t like Rohan and we’re not getting Martin. That’s a real laugh in (and unless you were around in the early 70s you simply won’t get this).

  6. We are looking at a few avenues to do this both during the trade period and during the draft with pick swaps. Best chance of it happening would be during the late stages of the trade period when there is a lot more clarity. If we do not get into the first round during the trade period I would not be surprised.

  8. I would rather not at this stage as I have witnessed how others have been jumped upon and have had to defend themselves. I will post further if anything more solid that a whisper comes up.

  9. I don’t know too much about Rendell but it sounded like he was trying to ‘go hard’ at the holes in our list to begin with (maybe because he knows Jason Taylor pretty well, which was briefly discussed) – but as he spoke through his points it was clear our list is a lot more positive than the headline he gave. He also doesn’t really seem to know our list well at all (“Is Hibberd still on their list”, an example). He rambles a bit and there was no real structure to what he was saying. Here is what I caught: List headline or theme: ‘Swiss Cheese’ – ‘Got some holes in it’ – Overall a bit light on with kids – Jackson will be a star – Rivers and Pickett will be stars – May had a super year – But with pushing out the McDonalds if May goes down we’ll be in trouble – Need Another key back – Desperate need: key forward – Ben Brown is coming so that should be filled – Salem: Needs more of the ball and needs to run more. Is a good player but isn’t as good as he probably should be – Hole: Lacking half backs (Rendell didn’t seem to think Rivers was a half back or maybe he got confused here) – Petracca been great – Need another player who can ‘burst’ away just like Petracca – Touched on Treloar and Rendell believes he is a perfect match for Melbourne – Silvagni rebutted that: Treloar doesn’t run both ways in the midfield (and won’t help Melbourne’s midfield who are similar) Positives – Nearly made the eight with the holes / weaknesses mentioned – Natural improvement will come – Should be so much more improvement to come – Core group are still young, a lot of football ahead for them

  10. It was good that Pert joined the hub full-time when they went to Queensland. He sat in meetings, went to training etc etc. Very valuable insight into how the off-field work translates (or doesn't) to on-field performance. Pert made some interesting comments (@11.00min) when asked about Goodwin. He said there was a lot of support for him, he was very good 1:1 and a good teacher. He then talked of the need to win finals not how Geelong or Richmond do but by making the most of the strengths and attributes of the players we have. Hudson asked him if this was not already happening. Good question Huddo! Pert didn't directly answer the question but talked about the coaching challenge and focus ahead. It is coaching 101 to have a game plan that suits the talents available not the other way round. It was Roos' mantra from the start of his career. Somewhere along the way, I feel Goodwin lost sight of that. I and others on here have lamented that Goodwin has a game plan he wants to play but doesn't have the players for that style. Having listened to the interview several times I thought Pert was saying the same thing. Pert has set Goodwin the challenge to focus on a game style this preseason, that brings out the best in the players we have and makes the most of their strengths and their attributes. To me that focus appears to be the foundation of our current list management decisions (which is as it should be) and puts Mahoney's comments about using existing players for the wing role into a broader context. I hope that Goodwin rises to the occasion and look forward to what the game plan looks like. And hopefully he settles it and the players into it, in the preseason so that we don't have the major changes during next season. We all saw it this year: 'chaos' then 'control' then 'chaos' again then a mixture. We aren't Geelong and we aren't Richmond so I really like the focus Pert is asking for. How refreshing it would be to have a consistent game plan, consistent team selections and consistent implementation with everyone on the same page.

  11. Andrew Phillips is a solid citizen. You know what you are going to get - he would not be up to playing 22 games but when required does a reasonable job.

  19. Had to laugh at Trumps comment of voter suppression. Firstly numbers of votes this year are higher than ever, that’s a good thing as it shows engagement to the democratic process. Secondly the republicans have engaged in so many voter suppression tactics over the years geared towards preventing African Americans from being able to have their say. For a country that prides itself on being seen as the shining beacon of democracy they really do a lot of nasty tactics to discourage certain demographics from voting.

  20. Frost, 42 (very little difference with 50), 61 (no value) and a future fourth-round FOR 50 and Hawthorn's future second-round selection (23) We then spent a future second and redeemed a future 4th with Langdon. Which allowed us to do the Pickett trade and keep a 2nd, 3rd and 4th this year. So we aren’t trying to get more picks, at this stage we are just trying to get better picks. A core part of Mahoney’s job is to try to get players in whilst still giving Jason Taylor something useful to work with at the draft. I think that’s worth bothering with.

  25. The next 1-2 Seasons are crucial for the MFC Our assets are mostly Ca$h so we have to keep building and investing. A bad year in 2021 and those cash reserves will take a big hit We are a Football Club, we have to do well onfield, nothing else will cut it I am sure Pert knows this

  27. I hate this response. EVERY clubs CEO gets interviewed at some stage. It's inevitable. Why we need the 'blah blah blah' and 'it's all talk' stuff is beyond me. We know we need to perform on field, but this stuff is always going to happen regardless of whether we're first or last on the ladder.

  28. Maybe we just can't afford him? The rumored contract he is on is around $600k (not sure what's going on at the Pies, but they had a heap of back-ended contracts), so maybe once they said no to TMac that was the end of any discussion we could be involved with. He's not that good a player that it's worth bringing him in and then losing Oliver, Salem, Weid or Gawn who are out of contract at the end of next year, or Trac/Brayshaw the year after.

  29. Reckon our lack of interest here to me indicates that we're well down the path with a pick/points swap with the Bulldogs to get their Pick 14 and take one of Finlay MacRae or Brayden Cook to fill the wing role.
    5 points
  30. Well we really don't know if there are any suitors and "not being worth a cracker" is not where the competition sees him. His contract in relation to what he provides is what is out of kilter. Are you suggesting that if he was a delisted FA he'd not find a home somewhere? We all know his history and his poor output is a disappointment but your tone seemed a bit disrespectful to a someone who, in your own words "has been a great servant and a credit to himself". And while you think it's necessary to correct those who think he has value I think it's important to stand up for someone who has served us well.

  31. Actually it's not where I stand 'Bob'...it's where the competition sees him now. Yep, I have been a critic since 2019. I reckon he lost all form (he didn't recover from the 2018 prelim) for whatever reason and we played him when he should have spent time at Casey. They lost the opportunity in 2019 to send a message, see if he could regain form, confidence....rest him if he was injured...whatever. Why I keep going over it now is that some seem to think he has trade value when he has next to none. There isn't a queue of clubs wanting his services. We accuse others of overrating their players but in this case some of the trade scenarios are ridiculous. They (fans on this site) seem to think some magic trade will happen or that a club needs him...we have been crying out for another key forward and we went and got someone else...it shows us and the rest of the completion where we value him. Why would we think another club, say GWS as was suggested would need him to replace Cameron...if he could then we should hold him because we need that player probably more than them. We are probably at the head of the line for a club that needed him. We don't think he's got it to come back into form or we are not willing to risk it. We are in a similar position to Collingwood with Dawes, they knew he was done, they needed a KPF yet moved him on...he was gone. I hope someone does take him on as it will relieve some salary cap stress but I don't know that there is anyone as dumb as we were when we took on Dawes. If we have to hold him then I hope he can really turn it around next season and stick it up me and anyone else that doubted him. It would be great to see.... Tommy has been a great servant and a credit to himself to carve out the career he has but his time may be up.

  32. Guys, can someone put up a link to Gary Perry’s interview with Huddo on SEN just now? V interesting, clearly the review was a deep dive and the onus is on the coaching panel to deliver next year. I find Perty is pretty good/honest in these interviews - worth a listen.

  33. Not for me. Another medium forward. He is quick but he's not defensive. I'd rather play Fritsch.

  35. It may end up being portrayed differently in the media but Tom wants to stay at Collingwood. As has been reported he may be squeezed out. I’d say in the last week or so he’s had a discussion with the club and gone from “not going anywhere” to “going elsewhere if forced to”. Absolute amateur hour at Collingwood at the moment. Morale would have to be extremely low.

  36. Cost, Preuss is on a reported contract of $400kpa, while we might get Phillips on a considerably lower contract and only for 1 year. Cheap back up is much better than expensive back up.

  38. Do you think it may just be possible that Phillips didn’t want to come to the MFC? That it may not have been our decision to make? Why are we always so keen to blame the Club in circumstances like this?

  39. so disappointed in this. Phillips would suit us perfectly and he''d be a walk in for us best 22. So much uncertainty with relying on baker for that role, where as Phillips is a proven winger. Baffled by some of the decisions our club makes :(

  44. Ricky Nixon has dumped more rumours tonight than the Democrats have dumped random votes for Biden in the American presidential race. Here they are - • Jeremy Cameron – Talks between the Cats and Giants have come to a grinding halt, with GWS insisting on receiving players – not picks – which makes sense given the mass exodus from there. This is the usual stand off around a player such as Cameron. GWS have said they want two players in return for Cameron believed to be Esava Ratugolea and Sam Menegola ... GWS have put four year deal on table to Sam Menegola. • Three Victorian clubs are sitting back watching closely on the Jeremy Cameron deal they are the obvious Carlton Essendon Collingwood. All ready to trump up with a better deal than what Geelong can…….so does Geelong trade Ratugolea and Menegola……I would definitely not trade Menegola…..now way Essendon talks strongly going around pick 7 will head to the Western Bulldogs in return for Josh Dunkley talks Bulldogs keen to use pick 7 and try and lure Adam Treloar to the club defiantly watch this space round this deal. • For me St.Kilda the obvious place for Treloar where he can contribute to them finishing above Collingwood again this year. • Saints boss Simon Lethlean says that contrary to reports Jack Higgins has not made any intentions of a move to St Kilda (that might be true but he left off the part that they have had discussions with him at length……might want to get in quick because Carlton real keen ... real keen. • Sainter Seb Ross now linked to a three year deal at Essendon. • I hope it’s not true that Carlton have offered Zac Merrett the most ridiculous deal I’ve ever heard of 6 years at 900+ ... just a little warning if true Carlton don’t spend up too big on Cripps backups and lose the lad back to WA • Daniel Talia – Essendon in to him, as source believes he could be on the move as Adelaide look to gain currency for him now rather than dealing with a potential free agency hassle next season. Crows footy boss Adam Kelly, however, says he’s a “required player”. Contracted until 2021 despite Essendon has offered him two-three years on table for him after he wants to return back home to Victoria. • Harry McKay – Essendon made a play at the key forward, but neither Carlton nor McKay are entertaining a move. Contracted until 2021 and he wishes to stay at Carlton next year. • Matthew Scharenberg – Had been mulling over a return to his native South Australia after falling out of favour in 2020, but has since been delisted so will definitely try to earn a lifeline with the Crows. Delisted free agent. • Josh Thomas from Collingwood linked to three clubs Gold Coast Sydney GWS showing interest around him the last couple days talks going around he could be set to stay at the pies next year. • Jayden Laverde only one club the last 24hrs have questioned his playing movements is believed to be North Melbourne. • Shaun McKernan – Will sign with the Saints as the news I broke 2 weeks a go and lots of Saints fans saying it wont happen….BANG. Delisted free agent talk is one-two year deal on table. • Brandon Matera three clubs the last 48hrs having been expressing interest in him talks believed to be Adelaide Hawthorn West Coast showing interest in him. • Mason Wood been linked two clubs Sydney and Carlton as delisted free agent. • Jake Carlisle – Had fallen out of favour at points, but Brett Ratten has since claimed he will be offered a new deal. Hawthorn tried desperately to get him across after Hawthorn offered him three year deal talks Carlisle will stay at St Kilda talks two years have been offered to him from St Kilda. • Nick Hind – Essendon are making a play at the small forward as a replacement for Orazio Fantasia. Out of contract, not a free agent. • Jack Lonie – Fell out of favour at points in 2020 looks likely to seek a new home – although St Kilda want to keep him. Carlton and Collingwood came knocking last time he was out of contract, but the Western Bulldogs are reportedly the most interested club this time around. Out of contract, not a free agent. Western Bulldogs have asked to meet with Lonie this weekend. • Paddy McCartin has been asked from Essendon to have a discussion with them two clubs showing huge interest in him believed to be Carlton and Sydney talks David Teague is absolutely wrapped with Paddy in the meeting with him. • North Melbourne Coach - Michael Voss been linked to three to four year deal as coach talks North strongly keen on Voss and he has had fair few discussions with the club personally I don’t think Michael knows what way to go. Also talks that Gary Ayers and Mark Williams have also had chats with the club as well but Ross Lyon no interest as he has an eye on an Ess or Coll etc. • David Mundy set to sign one year deal now at Fremantle. • Tom Hickey looks set to nominate Sydney from West Coast three year offer on the table to him talk is he’s told the west coast players he wishes to be traded. Jordan Clark linked to a three year deal at Fremantle talk Geelong is trying put a deal on the table for him to stay at Geelong. • Ben Brown after nominating Melbourne he has passed medical for Melbourne that deal will be done now that Melbourne got the results back talk four-five years on table for him. • GWS have asked Essendon the only way Jye Caldwell deal will get done would see a late 1st round pick to see that deal done. • Lachie Shultz looks set to stay at Fremantle. • Three clubs showing huge interest in Peter Wright is North Melbourne Essendon Collingwood Collingwood still front runners for him as far as doing a trade but sources close to Wright tell me he’s a mad Pies Fan and prior to him getting drafted Collingwood said they’d nominate him but they didn’t and this is a strong reason Wright aint super keen on them at the moment • Tom McDonald the last 48hrs GWS have shown interest talks going around two club race for him now is between Essendon and North Melb • GWS will trade Zac Langdon to West Coast for pick 54. • Jack Stevens from Geelong been linked to North Melbourne talks Geelong keen offload Stevens pay him out for next year talks could force him to retire depending offer on North Melbourne. • West Coast officials set to hold Zoom Meeting with Alex Witherden. • Two clubs race for Luke Dunstan from St Kilda are Carlton and Adelaide.

  45. I think what I'd be trying to do is: 26 + 68/69 + Hannan for a future first. Why? Because the Dogs need points this year but not next year. Let's say that their first round pick next year is the same (ie, 14). That equates to them giving up approximately pick 44 for Hannan, but crucially it allows the Dogs to increase their draft points this year by 788. That will be important given that they need to use about 2000 for JUH. Importantly for us, it also allows us to have a pick in a much more valuable draft (ie, next year). A lot of teams want future picks and we'll have two first rounders which, more than anything, gives us a lot of currency for trade both this year and next.
