We paid a future first, 26 and pick 50 (which is effectively zero since we weren't using it anyway) for pick 10 (Pickett), 28 (Rivers) and a future fourth rounder. In reality, we traded 26 for 28 (Rivers) and a future fourth rounder, and our future first round for pick 10 (Pickett). It makes perfect sense. If we had a first rounder in 2020 still, we'd be screaming out to draft Pickett.6 points

He was almost being applauded for his efforts on the night. They were certainly laughing about it and not taking it seriously. Then again the AFL don't take it seriously by their own actions. Sure they talk a good game when it comes to wanting to stamp out gut punches and sling tackles and making the head sacrosanct but they always fail to follow up with sanctions that would deter that behaviour.6 points

Took a great mark in the last and then slotted it, under immense pressure, in a finals type game. Gotta give the guy a bit of love here too.5 points

Does anyone else have trouble with the crazy camera coverage? There is an obsession with showing coaches, injured players being treated, and replays of how injuries occured often being shown in preference to the actual live play. 2 Examples. in Q4 at 6:30 Langdon collides with Lloyd and then Reid gets the ball and kicks it. We do not see the ball in flight because we immediately cross back to Lloyd who is doubled over. We then cross back to the ball at the end of its flight being marked by Salem. In Q4 at 4:55 Picket marks (lovely pass from Spargo) and goes back and kicks a point. We are then shown a replay of a previous passage of play involving Viney . The next thing we see is the ball being thrown in on the opposite side to the Viney replay and we do not actually know how the ball got there because WE DO NOT SEE THE KICK IN. This is just a sample from the last 7 minutes - there were many more. Alf Potter would be turning in his grave. Great last quarter effort.5 points

Still has to identify and pick the players. We have had a lot of draft picks from 2007, pretty much failed on most of them until Taylor joined us Lets change our draft choices only top 25 picks for 2007,08,09 players that should be peaking now, we have none on our list only 2 still in AFL system but not for much longer 2007 Morton-Dangerfield Grimes-Rance Maric- Scott Selwood 2008 Watts-Nic Nat Blease-Shuey Strauss- Hannebery 2009 Scully-Martin Trengove-Brad Sheppard Gysberts-Lewis Jetta Tapscott-Fyfe Add in our first round picks from 2010 Lucas Cook, 2012 Jimmy Toumpas, please giving first round 2011 pick for Mitch Clark, we couldn't stuff up a 6 years of picks and trading any more. What a midfield group Nic Nat, Danger, Martin, Shuey, Fyfe, Hannebary, Selwood Instead we got nothing to show for this period, Jason Taylor is like a Ferrari compared to our recruitment team through this period. That is the reason we are in the position we are now5 points

OMG Just heard the biggest load of hogwash from that Hutchy defending the coverage of the football as being absolutely fantastic when Caroline Wilson asked the networks to please bite the bullet and send their commentators to the actual games (which means having to quarantine and put themselves out for their jobs) because the commentators not being live at the ground is not great for football or the fans. He then attacked her for not taking up the offer to go up to Queensland herself because she wanted to stay here for her family etc. She does not commentate AFL games you dolt. Why are you making that comparison. It is not relevant. Her point was valid. The commentary is not up to scratch if they are not at the ground. Hutchy always wants to get personal and attacks with false logic. He is so conflicted and compromised with his involvement in his media company. He should let people have an opinion without carrying on like a spoilt brat. Give him a lollipop. He acts like an overgrown child.5 points

What about those who have improved? Steven May has easily been in career best form. Trac has been in career best form. Sam Weideman has continued to improve. Ed Langdon has arrived and continued to improve and be an instrumental part of the side. Our three picks this year have all come into the side to play senior footy, and all three have looked very good. Michael Hibberd has also had a terrific year. I mean, sure, some have had off years, but there are plenty of other examples of improvement.4 points

Oh no we don't. Not past the top half dozen or so in any case. It's one of the problems here, supporters are constantly over-rating the quality of the team. We're a long way off it at the moment, and each week we're playing a handful of players who would not get picked up by other clubs if we delisted them.4 points
-
I mean both Brayshaw and Harmes had career best years under Goodwin, probably Melksham too. Brayshaw & Harmes are victims of playing under Viney. Melksham is anyones guess, with T Mac & Jetta just physically cooked.4 points

I'll say it again what does this have to do with Taylor. As the thread title suggested its about Taylor and therefore drafting. Hes not responsible for trading picks.4 points

Except when they grow some balls and suspend a no-namer like ANB. The AFL invalidate themselves when they turn a blind eye to bigger names and not penalising expansion clubs.4 points

He's not soft but he is a dumb footy player. He is the most infuriating player we have; it's not his fault he is the main forward alot of the time but he rarely leads at the footy, he tries to body out too much, he goes up for speccys with a childlike cadence, and he looks like a terrified kitten when lining up for goal. Apparently, he takes 50 shots before the game. It isn't helping - he should stop doing that - he is obviously putting the weight of the world on himself every time he lines up for goal. And he shouldn't put that pressure on himself - if he is the difference between us winning and losing then we don't have a very good team... I am always harder on forwards but he really gives me the [censored].3 points

Ummm life. Look of course I hate seeing us lose and I’d love to see us hold the cup before I die, but things are more important. I haven’t been able to see my kids for 6 months. A friend died and I couldn’t go to their funeral. My job is on the skin of its teeth - very day to day. So yeah as much as I love watching my team do well, it’s not the end of the world if they don’t. It’s a game. A fun game and a great distraction from the serious, but just a game.3 points

It's a good question, I'm sick of the commentators saying "he's a beautiful kick of the footy". It may come off the boot nice most of the time but he's inaccurate and has missed some absolute howlers. His mission over summer should be to become the most reliable set shot for goal in the team. Practice with crowd screaming in his ears, practice with one eye shut, with the ball having been dunked in water I don't care, but he needs to get better at it.3 points

Funny that but Jack missed a fair bit of season 2018 with injury....but go figure.3 points

We had a win. We are still in the hunt. Maybe we will get there, maybe we won’t, but geez the wrist slitting in this place is depressing. It’s just a game. A fun game, and a game we are invested in, but at the end of the day it’s a bunch of kids chasing an inflated bladder. It’s not the be all end all, and our lives won’t change no matter what happens this weekend3 points

At the time he was looking to be signed up however he was told to wait. Goody didn't want him ............ He was a better bet than Oscar and certainly Joel. He could hold his own and now that May is on top of his game and Lever playing better Frosty would fit in well unlike the other two mentioned. IMO we do lack a third tall down back that would have been handy and one that could run with smalls. we do have Petty but his not right. As for the salary constraints l don't remember him asking for a pay rise .3 points

Yeah Taylor would be part of any discussion about trades but he gets judged on the players he picks with the picks he has. This is more JM and Tim Lambs job.3 points

Agree. Brown did a very good job. At the ground you could see he was getting to contests and presenting. He’s not slow like Tmac. Jackson is not quite ready and 5 weeks away without match fitness wouldn’t help. Brown would like to show the bombers that he is still AFL standard.3 points

Perhaps ironically, GWS will be hoping/needing to pass us (and/or the Dogs) on percentage, so will look to beat the Saints by as much as possible, and in the process boosting our chances of making it. The gap between us and the Saints is 5.19%, which works out to about 50 points in this short and low-scoring with everyone lurking around 1000 point for/against. Call it nine goals to make up, combining the amount St Kilda lose by and the amount we smash Essendon by. Or the Dogs lose, we win, obviously. Sorry if I'm just repeating everything already said. I'm finding walking through it out loud a bit therapeutic.3 points

Really pleased to see Jason getting the credit he deserves. We need to be strategic with our trading and FA this off season to fill some key holes (such as another winger and an x factor goal kicking small forward), but every time Taylor has a second round pick, I'm confident he'll nab us a good player. It's a brilliant feeling given our past recruiting woes. This off season might be a little trickier given there's less exposed form at TAC level to look at though.3 points

It was quite bizarre the way the commentators were laughing about it, like he’s just a knockabout larrikin.3 points

This is an example of why the afl tribunal system is a joke. There has to be an element of intention considered as well as effect. Anb never meant for his tackle to induce a concussion (4 weeks) but mumford clearly summed up the contest and thought [censored] it ill hit the back of his head as hard as i can (fine). A joke of a system.3 points

I used to like Mummy back in the Sydney days, was quite the hitout merchant and really helped them to that flag in 2012, but he's clearly past it and resorting to some other methods in his twilight. He isn't the first and won't be the last. I did like seeing Trac get stuck into him shortly after the Clarry episode!3 points

im flabbergasted by what this thread claims is the Match Review response to the Oliver incident .Mumford all but removed Clarrys head from his shoulders with a swinging arm when Clarry was as open as a gate .He was in trainers arms until the quarter ended and started the next quarter on the bench in an apparent attempt to recover .I was acutely concerned that he would take no further part in the game .I assumed (foolishly it seems ) that there was no penalty by Match Review as the case went straight to the tribunal .Am to understand that there was no penalty at all for this case of wanton thuggery ?Surely this cant be the case .3 points

Not being at the game so having limited vision is understandable. But some of the poor commentary practices are inexcusable and come down to poor standards setting and management. Waffling on with some of the extraneous crap they do while the ball is in general play is disrespectful to their viewers. By all means provide some insights, entertainment and analysis during the numerous breaks in play, but when the play is on, just CALL THE BLOODY GAME.3 points
-
Totally agree. The last one was infuriating given where the match was at. They didn't even have a replay of it. And to make things worse, soon after they were showing goody talking to fritsch on the bench in the little break for no reason. The other thing that did my head in is all rhe talking and conversation between darcy when the ball is in motion. Call the bloody game!3 points
-
What amazes me (but it shouldn't) that the AFL go on about reducing head injuries, and yet allow this thuggery to happen, there is a class action heating up by Bleese and others, and yet they condone this by not giving out the right punishment . And the way the commentators were drooling over it on Saturday night was sickening. I bet if Gawn's mum had called in they would have been put in their place.3 points
-
The AFL are not going to undermine their finacial investment in GWS - weak as [censored] and totally exposes the double standards at play. The MFC should be protesting loudly at this. ANB should publicly ask the AFL why he gets suspended for an action which accidentally caused injury to the head when big Mummy is only finned for an action which quite intentionally did. It's likely he'd cop another fine for bringing the game into disrepute, within the ironical context of the AFL in effect bringing it into disrepute through it's blatant double standards and failure to protect players from gutless snipers like Mummy.3 points

Total thug. Unacceptable in this day and age. Pathetic he has not copped more criticism, though unsurprising given footy media is dominated by ex footballers who are almost meat heads - meat heads who instinctively say no case to answer for every hit. But there is some justice. In game decided by 5 points Mumford gifted us a goal when the ball was clear of our 50 and IIRC another he gave away on the wing ended with a goal being kicked (i think)3 points

Here is part of what Slobbo said about it: Giants big man Shane Mumford came under MRO scrutiny and social media angst after a typically robust performance against Melbourne. He was even called a sniper by a caller on 3AW on Sunday. Have to disagree. If that had been a Melbourne player he would have condemned him and asked for a 5 week sanction.3 points

It seems to have gone unnoticed that the Battleship Mumford was fined a Grand for punching Gawn in the back of the head in the second quarter. He sure dished it out on Saturday. It reminded me of the old lawless days when most sides had a hit man. The other thing I noticed is that Langdon simply plays old fashioned footy. He runs, he's great at finding space and when he gets it, he kicks it, the way Brian Dixon used to. I do wish, however, the lad would aim a bit straighter.2 points

5th and 6th have always had a home final, if there are no border restrictions I don't have a problem with it, they've earnt it.2 points

A really interesting dynamic is that the only realistic chance of making finals is if dogs lose. If they beat the saints both will end up on 36 points. But the giants would need to win by 9 goals odd goals to make up the percentage gap with them. And would then still need us to lose. So to be a chance they still need us and the dogs to lose. But crucially for us they need make 3.3% on the dogs as well. So they have to win by four odd gials to have a shot. Good for us as they play Friday night and us sat arvo and have to attack the saints and go for it to be a chance. No putting the cue in the rack if they are a couple up wirh 5 to go. A good game to bet over the total match point line.2 points

Yep, the waffle on was embarrassing on Sat night. One thing Richo tends to do a lot this year and it's getting pretty irritating is he gets a bee in his bonnet about some decision that was made and harps on for a while and when you think it's finished on it's own volition and the subject and play has changed you can literally feel he's going to chime in again and show his frustration and [censored] a dead horse on that stupid point, of course he does. The example being the deliberate by Toby Greene and how 'that's not what the rule was brought in for' and a minute later 'that's not deliberate'. For what it's worth I don't see how a handball that goes out on the full with no teammate their isn't deliberate.2 points

Not a fan of him up forward. Plays his best footy down back. Those 2026 highlights clearly show that.2 points
-
Love Jayden Hunt. Goodwin needs to play him on the wing or half back where his speed and attacking is an adavantage. "You win with your strengths" D. Neitz Goody has never given him a decent go. The highlights package didn't show the torp in Alice either, right on the siren. He needs the opportunity. His tank will get bigger as he gets older. Early on, it wasn't just him, the whole team needed stability. Keep him. JT can't find a player better than him for the price we'll get for him. Reduce trading and stabilise those we have. And yes, I can't recall who said, he's been over coached. Let him have his head and let him go.2 points
-
I think we notice the mistakes because most of the camera work is actually pretty good this year. Finally, the directors have realised that close ups of play are unhelpful and that medium distance and sometimes long distance views, including those form behind the goals, are better for giving a true perspective of the game.2 points

I've been surprised by his goal sense over the last two years. He's one of our only forwards with genuine goal sense. I suspect it's forward or bust.2 points
