  1. Hannan has averaged 7 possies in last 3 games, all dry and no tackles in his last 2. He has kicked 1.1 in three games. Nothing in 2 games. Yes, in the wet I would have AVB.

  5. On the positive note, this highlights how good Jackson has been. A month ago we were thinking he is too raw to even get a game and now he is a massive loss. imagine him in 2-3 years with some size on him!

  6. Who would you want in a predicted wet game, Hannan or bash and crash VDB?

  7. Hannan out and vandenBerg still in. Tell me the absolute lie that Goody doesn't play favourites despite form.

  8. Seriously you need to get over this. There is a whole heap of reasons why It may surprise you to know we are not the most important people at the football club that neeeds to know this stuff in the 5 mins after it happens.

  10. Pretty simple Pruess goes to Ruck and stays till Gawn is ready Tmac goes forward with Weid, must stay with 2 KPFs. I wouldn't flirt to much with team structure keep a system players come in to play roles B. Hibberd May Lever HB. Rivers Tomo Salem C. Langdon Oliver AVB HF. Melk Tmac Fritsch F. Pickett Weid Hannan R. Pruess, Brayshaw, Trac IC. Viney, Sparrow, Spargo, Harmes

  11. Vandenberg.. one of the most overrated player on this website. Selections are meh for me. Harmes was fumble and gave away free kicks last week. Rivers was clean with the ball and provided defensive rebound off half back. But hey let's drop the kid who contributed far more then the out of form senior player. Crazy goody at it again.

  12. One thing with VDB is that he's bloody tough. For years we've lacked players who make the opposition look over their shoulders when they hear his footsteps.

  13. vandenBerg last week had 6 clangers and 4 turnovers from 11 disposals. He also gave away a goal with undisciplined play for the 2nd week in a row. Surely with Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Preuss and Sparrow in the middle we have enough "bash and crash". Our problem for 3 years has been skill and inside 50 efficiency. Who do you reckon helps more with that out of Hannan and vandenBerg? It's a pathetic decision by Goodwin even if you just want to look at the discipline aspect of it.

  15. Below is a table to summarise 'Wins Needed' and 'Games Left' in the run home. It assumes 10 games required to make the 8. My contention is the first 4 will make the 8 (not necessarily top 4) and the last 3 (and those below them on the ladder) can't make the 8. So the discussion is for the 7 (middle) teams vying for the remaining 4 spots in the 8. My thoughts: Most Likely to make it: Saints (need 3 wins): Likely wins: Ess, Hawks. I think they will find another win and make it. Tigers (need 3.5 to 4 wins): Likely wins: GCS, Ade, Freo. I think they will find another win and make it. That leaves two spots: Pies (need 3.25 to 4 wins): Likely wins: North, Carlton, GCS. Can't see another 'obvious' win. Giants (need 4 wins): Likely wins: Ade, Carlton, Freo. Need another win. Ess (need 4.5 to 5 wins): Likely wins: Hawks but can't find other 'obvious' wins. % hurts them. They won't make it. Dees (need 5 wins): No 'obvious' wins and no 'obvious' losses. Every game will be a dog fight. Bulldogs: (need 6 wins): Will lose to Geelong and Eagles which means they fall one game short and have a poor % to overcome. So on my reckoning the last two spots come down to Pies, Giants, Dees. Special mention to Freo: They are the 'wild card'. I said early this week that and won't be easy to beat. They have recently beaten the Saints and Pies. They have a very good system and getting better at it with each game. They won't make the 8 but could have a big say in who does, playing 3 of the 7 teams (in blue) vying for a spot in the 8.

  16. I agree. I won't be able to hack another season of watching QLD, SA and WA residents enjoy their freedom at the footy while we can't even cross the road without a mask. Surely there will be crowds in VIC next year, even if we have to wear masks to the footy. Victorians are going to have to live with the virus next year. We can't stay at home forever FCS!

  19. Vandenberg is a barometer so I understand keeping him in. Hope Harmes staying in means he’s tagging Sidebottom because he was terrible last week Jones lucky like our team much better with Hannan in it!

  20. Preuss for Jackson and Lockhart for Rivers like for like replacement. Viney for Hannan hopefully means Viney will rotate more through forward 50 and Brayshaw can continue to maximise his centre square time. Ecstatic no Stephenson has a habit of killing us.

  21. Please explain a 4:40pm start on a Thursday? I know most of Victoria is unemployed right now, but still. Odd.

  22. Sidebottom has been in poor form. I doubt he warrants a hard tag. Maynard is their play maker so will need to shut him down.

  23. Analysis of breaks: Thu Sep 3 - Sydney (5 day break) V Melbourne ( 5 day break) Mon Sep 7 - Melbourne (4 day break) V Fremantle (5 day break) Sat Sep 12 - GWS ( 4 day break) V Melbourne (5 day break) Swings and roundabouts I guess.

  24. The positive is we only meet one team that comes off a longer break than us - Freo has 5 days v our 4 into that match. All other games we either have the same break (Syd 5 v 5) or a longer break (Bulldogs 7 v 6), (Saints 7 v 6) and (GWS 5 v 4) Playing round 17 on Saturday you would think a 5 day break is a short as it will be for the round 18 match. If we stay fit cant see us losing one from here haha

  26. I reckon they'll pull Grundy out and itll be Cameron V Pruess. they'd be naive to go in with too many sore/underdone players. Grundy won't like the thought of a desperate Pruess finally getting a run after 12 months barrelling into him.

  27. I'm glad we've gone with Preuss to replace Jackson. Put TMac in Jackson's role and see if he can at least give us the same level of contest that Jackson was. Meanwhile Preuss has to make sure he's not letting Grundy dictate the hit outs, and has to stay with him around the ground. Grundy's been off, badly, the last few games bu if he returns to form, he could easily be the difference.

  30. Exactly. A lot of teams with a heap more injuries than us. He's an 18 year old rucking in a compressed season. Unfortunately this type of thing happens. Just have to make sure he gets his rehab right and give himself a shot at playing finals should we make it.

  31. There was a school of thought that the root cause of KK's concussions had been found, something to do with the neck. It's risk/reward and the club backed themselves to strengthen the neck muscle etc etc. The same thing could have been said for Gus Brayshaw in 2017. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

  32. This is exactly the sort of game that we have historically given a limp showing after a couple of good performances. It’s incredible to think that we see Jackson as a big out already, but he is clearly something special. As well as his ability, he has a real boundless enthusiasm for the game - a bit like Clarry, Petracca, Viney, Pickett etc. which I don’t see in the likes of TMac, Melksham etc. Hopefully his out doesn’t change the positive dynamics of the team.

  34. Our turnaround since round 6 actually shows us to be much better. Taking data from https://www.statsinsider.com.au/afl/shot-charting we are 53% overall since round 5. Our shot profile is also in the key zones (straight in front or in the pockets on the heat map). Rounds 1-5 we were 47% with the least amount of our shots being in the central corridor. Great game plan tweaks and ball movement upgrades have helped our turn around in form. The types of shots we are generating since round 5 means both our set shots and general play shots are more accurate.

  35. In reference to the AFL I agree entirely. In reference to the entire world economy, which has existed since evolution, there is no way to break it down and rebuild it into an equal or utopian system that won't be re-corrupted to favour some at the expense of others. But those that chase profit sacrifice other things in their life. Those that bemoan "the system" or "the government" really are too lazy to even go fishing off a pier.My response was directed at a comment I took as being a far more general societal complaint than just the way the AFL has become a commercial and media sewerage system.i have no problem with the discussion of ideas.Vague swipes at "the system "are not really ideas. They are complaints.

  37. People will jump on straw men arguments against this (like ‘tell us how socialism will fix this’) but you are correct. This is nothing to do with political agenda but the kind of historically observable transition that happens in societies when our understandings and functions of labour, resources and economy change. This is exactly what is happening now. Change is the only guaranteed thing and to immediately reject alternative ideas is to worsen the shock of the change for yourself. Fetishisation of money is a great way to see it. And just like fetishes, not everybody has it. I’d wager that most of us want all of us to be able to live happy lives, and constantly striving for growth and profit has proven itself inept at achieving this.

  38. Have heard this also from a club source. As a 19 year old in his second season he averaged over 22 disposals off half back and finished 2nd in their BnF two votes behind Tom Lynch, and ahead of Steven May, Bennell and Miller. He looked set to become one of the elite back flanks in the league. Such a shame that injury ruined his career. His long term health is the priority at this stage. Concussions are nasty - look at how much it's ruined the life of Paddy McCartin. He basically lives in isolation with constant headaches, susceptible to bright light and randomly loses feeling in his hands. Wish Kade good health!

  41. GWS losing is obviously good for us in the short term: we beat Collingwood, we pass GWS. But it's a reminder that we can't just assume we're going to bank the Fremantle and Sydney wins.

  44. What the world haven't got its head around yet . . . slow training coming . . . The virus has exposed a deeply flawed economic and social model that prioritises excessive opportunism and profiteering at the expense of the peoples' welfare and wellbeing. The fetishisation of money over people is the allegory of the emperor's new clothes for the 21st century. We are all naked now.

  45. You should have been highlighting the part of TU's post that said "He doesn't get sucked into the contest and helps stretch our opponents' defence". It's definitely the same thing and a pretty common sporting term. EPL uses it all the time.

  46. I don’t think option 2 stinks. TMac and Weideman looked okay as a combination initially until TMac had his eyeball scraped out. With Weideman now having demonstrated capability as first forward, TMac can play the more mobile, pinch hit in the ruck role he played in 2018. It’s not ideal but I don’t think it’s terrible, or all that far off what we probably thought our forward line might look like at the start of the year.
