So we are NOT who we thought we were... We are a bunch of frontrunners and we are wasting a lot of talent and a year where the comp is very open. The Goodwin Questions remain.15 points

Lost this one at selection. The balance wasn’t right today. Harry Petty has potential but should have been kept in wraps for a while longer. Billy Stretch and Sam Frost have been very strong for weeks at Casey and should have been picked.12 points

Honestly, not playing Vince, Frost, Garlett and or Spargo is due to Goodwins cockiness thinking that we’re a club that can win games without our best 22 on the park and gift games to players who try hard instead of talent. I don’t give a [censored] if Garlett isnt doing well in the VFL. Hannan had 4 disposals and zero marks. Out: Petty, Tyson, Hannan, Weideman In: Frost, Stretch, Garlett, Vince11 points

Also, I want to add this as well but won't edit my post: Tom McDonald should NOT have played and it was stubborn to do so. Even in our losses he has been our one shining light, yet he didn't even look like it today. We should have done the right thing and played someone else (Spargo, Stretch) and given him a week off. I don't often criticise the selections, but this one was a poor one.11 points

Season dond.. This one is on you Goodwin! Picking Petty ahead of BOG performance from Frost last week, leaving Tyson on a wing to let their runners skim past him, continue to play spuds like ANB who offers absolutely nothing. Honestly some serious questions need to be asked of this footy club. Our backline is a shambles with no experience whatsoever after trading Lynden Dunn for a packet of chips who's now one of the top defenders of the game. Oscar is a ordinary footballer and made Fatty McCartin look like Wayne Carey today FFS! There is no forward line structure at all. 2 weeks in a row no we continue to not select a crumbling forward! Spargo, jeffy and heck even JKH just to try and add a bit of zip and forward pressure at least! Weideman is useless, watching Josh battle in his 4th game bully our backline was shameful to see. And finally our midfield is just way too too heavy! Having Dom Tyson on a wing all day has to be one of the most mind boggling decisions ever? Time to bring Stretch in now and leave him on a wing for the next 10 games to see what he has to offer? At least he will provide run and poise unlike Tyson. Another year full of promise, only to be now let down by this shitful club.10 points

My son is in New York and he rang me straight after the game and heaped scorn ….. And blame! On me for indoctrinating him from birth as a die hard Dee! Consigned to torment! His footy career ended at 25 after 3 serious knee operations and he said to me .. Dad what is going on ? we have a great list some great in and under's and still cannot cut it!! Can players respond when up against it? Shattered! Walking away from the G, I thought of Rob and put myself into memory mode! to give some relief! Tonight, I may watch the last round in 87 vs Doggies , have more than a few scotches and dull the pain! Will it ever end?9 points

Supporting this team is dead set like being in an abusive relationship. You want to believe they've changed, you want to trust them, you convince yourself that the worst is behind you. Really you're just an effing idiot and deserve all the abuse that's comes your way.9 points

It’s Gawn’s fault. He makes us appear better than we are. Simon “as a footy club” Goodwin has no [censored] idea. Brings in Petty and Weid when it was clear as all [censored] last week we needed zip, pressure and crumbers to clean up the garbage that is our forward entries. Leaves that plodder Tyson in when Vince at his absolute worst can do whatever role Tyson is in 100 times better. I watch nearly every game every week, we defend just as bad as the bottom 4. Sometimes it even looks far easier to score against us. It’s sickening. I’m convinced I’ll never see another final. On the plus side Saints were paying 6 bucks and I went to town.9 points

They do. Viney's last term was immense, and they shouldn't have had him tag Steven at the start of the game. The bloke is our bull at the stoppages, let him loose from the opening second.9 points

He had a poor game, but clearly the FD believed that his development and form across the season was good enough for a senior debut. It's clear they also believe he could fill the role vacated by an injured Jake Lever better than the other players on our list. You can't predict these things. I saw plenty of times today where the players, including our leaders, got over to him to have a word, give him a pat on the back and do what they could to help him in every situation. You can't ask more than that. The selection backfired, but most here believed (go and look at the changes thread for this game and you'll see most almost pleading for his inclusion) he was ready to go.8 points

Sorry but we are supporters. It is not our bloody job to determine if a kid is ready to play seniors. He has hardly been knocking the door down, and we all know KPPs take a long time to come of age. Why on earth you would throw him to the wolves (something we have gotten much better at not doing!) with our season on the line and with other more mature viable options available, is mind boggling. Smacks of arrogance and stubbornness. Already our back line is so inexperienced. So you drop Vince and bring in a first gamer. I mean wtf? You can’t blame a first gamer for costing us a game, but gees it was hard to watch. I felt for him and I’m sorry that we ruined what should have been a magical day for him, by playing him too soon without any backup. Pathetic decision making from the coaches.8 points

I don't know how I can take anything positive from that. Gawn was immense, I thought Harmes gave us something, Viney had a dip in the last... but what else? Now that we're supposed to be a 'finals side', you can't take little wins here and there anymore. They just don't cut it. The problems we had today are the problems many have been talking about for a few weeks now. Lack of leg speed, horrible execution going forward, a back line that is easy to score against. All three were brought to the forefront today and, against a side that has 2 wins for the year, we looked second rate. That's pretty unforgivable stuff. The play that set up the Battle goal in the last is proof of this. There was a contest at half forward, they won it, spread quickly and had an easy kick inside forward 50. They did it to us off the half back line all day long. We didn't have an answer for it and every time they went forward they looked like scoring. I don't think that's the fault of the defence, but clearly after having Lever go down we haven't found the right mix there yet. Also, we've had this problem for years now. Our game plan looks okay until we hid the mid-season bye, and then it all begins to fall apart. Sides know where they can beat us, and how they can beat us, and they exploit it all day long. We didn't have an answer last year and, at the moment, we don't have an answer right now. It's just not good enough. I don't want to sink the boots into the players individually. I want to badly, but I can't. I think most would agree there are some out there who are not up to it or are on their last legs who have had enough chances. We can't continue to carry these players anymore. I also won't lose the plot completely and say finals are gone. That's just madness. Alright, our form isn't good, but we've shown we can turn it around after a couple of shockers earlier in the year. Until we mathematically can't play finals I'll believe we can still make it. There is plenty of footy still to be played. I don't know what else to add. It's going to be a long week, but I think what comes the clubs way during it is more than deserved.8 points

Tyson is pretty sweet on the wing though. Really gives us something we don't have on the wide expanses of the G. And Viney as a tagger is an ingenious move by Goody. Why wouldn't we take our best ball winner away from doing what he does best? Zone defence also. Goody is on a winner here. Saints just kicked a score of 119. Awesome viewing for free flowing footy fans. I for one love seeing opposition goals. And the instruction for our mids to onnnnllly kick to a contest where at LEAST three forwards including two keys are spoiling each other worked wonders today. They nailed it. I can only hope Bugg and Frost come in next week and both play back flank to really give Freo the best chance of kicking a hundred point plus score. Onwards and upwards Dees.7 points

I have had faith for the last 54 years and support for the last 66, how long for you? Seriously though, why have faith they will make changes, when there is no evidence of change to base it on, despite the problems being evident for most of the year.7 points

Jones is going downhill badly, racks up cheap possessions to get his 20-30 but they don't hurt opposition oir add value, goes missing when needed.should have traded him years ago while he had some value, one trick pony and constant turnover king. Gawn take a bow, probably best game for the club, 25 disp, 11 marks, 39 hit outs. Goodwin needs to be asked some serious questions Our season is a waste, Garlett, Petracca, Tyson combined with B graders ANB, Jones, Vince, Lewis, Hannan, Weid. What the hell is going on with the forwards? Hogan? junk time goals, better today but jeez. Backline is atrocious, paid $750k & 2 first rounders for a guy with wonky knees then hello....hope he comes back OK. We need to rid these B Graders from the list, do a Hawks/Swans and bring in experienced performers. We don't have the cattle and we have a pretty dumb coach. There are no excuses to lose that game, it's utterly disgusting and embarrassing.7 points

What a strange game we had it won inside 15 minutes in the first. so we relaxed and let them back into it. The umpires seemed to me initially to be on a mission not to allow the brand not to be embarrassed, but then unashamedly pursued a reversal of the natural order agenda as a brand-enhancing upset became a possibility. You do seriously have to question whether there is any accountability for the absurd decisions that seem to be being served up to us weekly because our club is regarded as polite and therefore accepting of whatever shisen is dealt out to us.This sadly just won’t happen to a power club and I suggest this more out of sorrow than anger. Was there any examination of that Melksham free last week? (I don’t know - I’m asking) I understand that the game is a difficult one to umpire but there have been so many examples of umpires bending to the will of crowd pressure (not saying that was today but) and making crucial mistakes that surely it’s time for this to be front and centre for public discussion I actually was disgusted today at the frees ignored, overlooked and not awarded to MFC but awarded each and every time to St Kilda Back to the first point, the killer instinct that we displayed against Adelaide seems to have evaporated into the ether7 points

Hard to imagine that anything could top the selection of Maynard in round one and Tim Smith last week ,but the choice of Harrison Petty is simply staggering. The boy has shown some promise at Casey but not outstanding. Added to that he is a skinny, underdeveloped 18 year old. I actually feel sorry for him and hope he develops into a fine player. Both Frost and Keilty have been impassablee videnced again yesterday against the Bombers. Why these two have been ovelooked is perplexing particularly in the case of Frost. Yes, neither are champions, but a long way ahead of Petty atm. Frost adds a dynamic of pace sadly lacking. Many reasons we lost close encounters against the Cats, Power and Saints but when it's so tight one player can make the difference. I do not look forward to any Thursday selection night.6 points

It’s not just the “bigger things in life”, though there is that. It is an emotional passtime - I know that, and I buy in. I honestly felt like the world was ending in the third quarter when it became clear we weren’t going to turn it around. It is painful. It’s just the way we carry on like we’re the only team with issues. Every single team has stuff they don’t do well, that’s why every team has lost at least twice. All the teams have now dropped games they ought not have. We thought we were top 4 ready. Well we’re not. We are a middle side, which is reasonable for this stage of our development, and this is what middle sides look like. Flawed. Then there’s the motherhood statement makers. We’re *never* going to be good. We’ve been this way for *50 years*. No, we’ve been this way for this year. We were worse than this every year for the last 10, and after that you’ve gone well in to irrelevance. Then there’s the ones who blame the club for ruining their lives. “Oh, my son won’t even go for Melbourne now. I have to go to the footy by myself.” My kids hate footy too, and I tell you that I am 100% responsible for that, because of the way I used to carry on like a pork chop when we were poor, which when they were little, was always. Instead of blaming the club, think instead of the experience you create for your kids when you throw an adult tantrum over the outcome. That’s true whether your kids are young or adults. Nobody wants to be around a sour grump. People just need to get a bloody grip.6 points

Where were all you “clearly not ready” geniuses on Thursday? He had a horrible game, no doubt about that. He had his confidence crushed when he got outmarked in the first contest with Battle - that just lead to a death spiral of mistakes. That miskick was the sort of error that AFL players only make when they’ve been broken. I highly doubt that’s the sort of form he showed in the VFL though. He had his confidence shot in that first contest. It could have just as easily gone the other way.6 points

I'd day more than that. The Lewis free was rubbish. The free that led to the 50 against Oliver was rubbish. The 50 against Melksham was rubbish. The 50 against Tyson and Viney for entering the protected zone was there. That's 4. Plus they got goals from two players handballing to runners on the F50 because we were asleep. I've probably missed something. Everything that could go wrong did. Coaching, selection, players.6 points

Frost was the obvious option. Petty not even near it but lets choose him ahead of Frost! So Goody. No crumbing small forward 2 weeks running...still betting eveything on 3 Talls.. joke of the year especially when found out against the Pies and Port (both in the 8). If that doesn't tell you something then you don't deserve to be coaching any team at AFL level.6 points

I hate it when every week supporters who come here to vent, get told by some to get a grip because “it’s just a game” or “there’s more to life than footy”... it’s like telling a person having a panic attack to calm down. Soooo helpful. Years ago, nobody questioned the despair we felt. Now the new hipster [censored] on Demonland is for people to tell other people that we should appreciate the progress we’ve made, and stop complaining about poor performances. Relax man, drink a chai latte, things are fine. Because being mediocre is way better than being the worst team in history I guess. Bloody hell, there is a lot more to life than this game and this club, absolutely. But when I pay $600 a year, because I want to ensure I get finals tickets, and we literally have not made finals since I was a damn teenager (when I could drink the pain away without the 3 day hangover), then I will come here after a loss and respectfully tell you and your salt lamp to get stuffed. Now I gotta adult up and go to bed because I have an 80 hour work week coming up. Goddamn reality.5 points

Players that were in form 4 weeks ago have been out of form the last month and missing again today in ANB, Melksham and Hannan. Jordan Lewis seems to have zero care factor. Every week he gives up two or three goals because of lack of discipline or turnovers from lazy decision making. I do not care what leadership he brings, because he is part of the rot. Tyson is still slow and will not change. We have to give games to guys like Spargo, Baker and stretch because at least they have some zip. i Can’t believe how much the backline has deteriorated since Levers demise so maybe Frost and Pederson instead of Smith and Petty with some run from Baker playing the old Hunt role. New here... but after today feel i need to get involved! Agree with above (except Frost...) Sam Weids is lacking polish in every aspect of the game We're lacking FWD structure and play him as a bomb in target makes no sense at all Don't know anything about Petty but suspect an experiment on a "should win" game... Joel Smith missed a contest at half back also that was run the length for a goal CJPeds is such a better option for contested ball and is continually left out to blood new "talent"... annoys me5 points

I say give Keilty a go over Petty. Dec is a mature age recruit who has been playing VFL for 4 years now and has been in good form. I don't think he would've looked anywhere near as lost as Petts did out there today.5 points
