Jack was a champion under age midfielder for Sth Australia. He was picked behind Tom Scully but it was a toss of the coin. Jack was not quick but was very skilful, tough, smart, a natural leader and of high character. His first 4 years showed his talent. 79 games included half as skipper. Appointed skipper for 2012 with Jack Grimes. Bizarre from Neeld and ahead of time but Jack embraced the challenge. Tragically Jacks career stalled in 2014 with the navicular bone in his foot and the pain and impact being too much. With medical assistance and his strong will, Jack got back in 2016 but lacked even more pace as needed in the AFL. He is too good for the VFL but not quite AFL intense any more. Jack was well spoken. Always willing to talk about footy. He has been great with my 4 kids. He always smiled and happy to get those photos taken. As the Dees have Lewis,Vince, Tyson taking his role type, the delisting was not surprising. I hope he finds a spot elsewhere in another team or returns to SA to perhaps captain Sturt. From all on Demonland and all MFC supporters & members, thank you and good luck Jack.13 points

Just read this article in the Guardian and found it really moving: The boy whose commentary for his blind friend inspired his sporting heroes When Sydney Swans players heard a 12-year-old boy had been commentating for his mate at one of their matches, they wanted to meet the two youngsters .................." I barely looked at Buddy as I was focusing on Jarryd and Mark behind me. “What’s happening, mate?” Mark implored as Buddy strutted around the 50-metre line looking for the ball searching for his tenth goal. “Don’t worry Mark. I’ve got this,” replied Jarryd calmly. “OK. Buddy’s got it. He’s quite far out. Will he go for it? He’s going for it. It’s good and it’s his tenth goal! Buddy is on fire.” Mark hugged his football on his knees, feeling the defined stitching and laces with fingers, lost in the magic of Australian football brought to life by his friend. I think our Football Department staff should stare at a picture of Scott Thompson for three minutes without blinking, before entering into any negotiations. The football world hasn't played fair with the MFC in the past, we're under no obligation to pay more than we absolutely have to for Lever.8 points

I loved Nudge because his lies were outrageous and clearly ridiculous. I'm bored to death with the BS artists. Maybe I've been here too long.5 points

Good players aren't pushed out of clubs unless there is a good reason. Bevo of all Coaches, is the protector of his men, yet he has clearly lost it with Jake. If you read some of the comments of his team mates, they have as well. He is obviously a big problem. We don't need more big problems.5 points

I imagine that will be the most likely trade and whilst it does seem like a lot, I think we'd be asking for the same if the situation were reversed. I also think it's necessary. Supporters get too carried away with draft picks and Lever is proven quality at the age of 21. He's also the same age as our core and if we land him it'll be enormous for our club and that group moving forward. We picked Scully and Trengove at picks 1 and 2 once upon a time. Brayshaw is an unknown at this point as a pick 3. You take quality vs potential where you can. Two second round picks this year could also land us some fantastic quality if we get it right. There are more Sloanes and Fyfes out there ya'll. Edit: For @Redleg5 points

Not sure id be putting Waldron up on any pedestal. Doubt you do either LH4 points

Demons want Lever & picks 35, 53 Offering Crows picks 10, 45 No other players involved Crows want 2017 + 2018 1st round picks Demons won't do deal4 points

Very true. I think the Lever trade is getting compared to the Treloar trade a lot. Pies paid too much it that one. And Hawthorn and Geelong didnt pay enough for Mitchell and Dangerfield.4 points

Hypocrisy has developed into an art form on Demonland Can somebody tell me 3 reasons why we need another small fwd and AFL website says we do is not one If we keep everybody and get everyone fit, it is consistent fwd pressure we need from every fwd, doesn't necessarily have to be small, everybody is getting sucked in by Richmond model as they did with Bulldogs last year4 points

Kelly is going to the Blues and Essendon, and I'm Brian and so is my wife.4 points

If we got Stringer I would be happy, if we dont get Stringer I would be happy. Happy in the knowledge BMac would have a good knowledge of the kid and how it would play out at the MFC.4 points

Trac has the most upside of any player on our list. He has played every game since being selected for his first senior game last year and has never looked like getting dropped. His only weakness is his tank. Once he develops he has all the qualities to be a brownlow medalist superstar.4 points

Here's something to make everyone envious. Joel McDonald started a logistics company called "GetSwift" which is now listed on the ASX. He's Managing Director and owns about 36 million shares in the company which are worth, on the current price of $2.13 a share, about $72 million. I think James Strauss is also a significant founding shareholder, too.4 points

We kick off the Blast from the Past series with South Australian midfielder/wing Andrew Obst. Debuting in 1990, Andrew played 149 games for the Dees finishing 3rd in the 1996 Best and Fairest before retiring at the end of 1997. http://demonwiki.org/Andrew+Obst3 points

He's on his way and the dollars are totally in line with what he deserves Picks 10 and 27 are off to Adelaide3 points

Something has gone terribly wrong with our salary cap management if we need to give up our only silky players to fit in Lever, given we have a $2m windfall (and having Lumumba off our books). Grain of salt needed - make that a kilo!3 points

And with these two posts, the Draft and Trading board is back in business! Let the good times roll.3 points

Jesus Ding. Judds Granny follows a very well worn path of a new poster popping up at seasons end, and giving juicy tidbits that people love to swallow, and being exposed and disappearing 2 months later, never to be seen again. Like the posts for their entertainment value, imagine "wouldn't it be great if it were actually true", but don't ask questions and give the impression that you believe what he is saying. Its fun, but nothing more. edit: and watch for the trade rumours to get even more enticing, and complicated at key "bars open" times, friday night, and weekends.3 points
-
There are 3 players from other clubs we want, for 2 of them their names are being painted on their lockers as we speak.3 points

Willing to bet that dear old Granny turns out to be completely full of it. Seen this movie a dozen times before. Makes up enough detail on the rumours to just sound plausible, when the inevitable gets done but not exactly as described, it's ooh, we/they gave in and agreed in the end to get the deal done. It's directly out of the GNF playbook. Time will tell though.3 points

Hopefully they've learnt a lesson from the PJ Demons play book. Don't leak until deals are done. How damaging to put all your targets out there and then have the footy world laugh at you when you don't land them. I love Jason Taylor's only comment on Lever. Something like "If a player like Jake Lever wants to move Clubs we'd talk to them." The master of understatement. If for some reason he ends up not coming to us no damage done.3 points

I'm not one for overstatement but I believe he could be the greatest player the AFL has ever seen.3 points

A class act. Someone with a great future in life. Cant think of any other Demon recently retired or delisted that has had such tributes paid to him for his character traits. Life and sporting life can be a tough road. So often it's how you deal with misfortune that distinguishes some from others. In this regard, Jack stands tall. If he makes it with another AFL team, one will wonder if Goodwin should have given him more than a couple of games to adjust to senior footy and the speed of the game. Most Demon supporters would love to see him make it with another team but I will always think of Jack as a MFC person. If he doesn't make another AFL list would love to see him retained by the MFC in a coaching/mentoring role given his leadership qualities.3 points

Why are people worried about a salary of a player? I trust our club can manage the books OK. Lets worry about getting the deal done.3 points

Sad end to the career of Trengove. His first few years were great and showed such promise, to the point he was made the youngest AFL captain in AFL history. He was neck and neck with Dustin Martin for the first few years, but then injuries ruined him. Supremely talented player, cross between Jimmy Bartel and James Hird. A friend of mine who's currently an assistant coach of another AFL club said he was viewed by most clubs as one of the best young talents in decades, leadership, skill, bravery, he was the full panache. Shame to see his body let him down and prevent him from fulfilling his potential. Thanks for all the hard work Trenners.3 points

Class Act and a great person who will not be lost to the game. Football is full of tales of injury cutting down young men and Jack joins that list. I have no doubt he will succed in whatever long term path he chooses Wish you all the best Trenners2 points

It sounds like WB players have had enough. Mitch Wallis was quite forthright last week: "Time will tell, we've all gone our separate ways now so I think the trade period is not for another three or four weeks and there will probably be some conversations which we're pretty well aware of to decide his future...If he decides to stay, he'll stay for a long time. And if he doesn't, well, good luck to him". And there is a bit of chat about players not wanting to play with him: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/david-king-and-mark-maclure-say-the-western-bulldogs-have-made-a-strong-call-in-looking-to-trade-jake-stringer/news-story/5bcb11edcae413c88f124851adb3f031 Off field issues aside, if you can't earn your teammates respect there's not much room at a footy club. This has caveat emptor writ large all over it! Luckily mfc have a no d...head policy. Our energies need to be focused on finals not on baby sitting a problem child and putting out spot fires.2 points

Not sure that Stringer is the answer to our prayers, but agree with ignition's post above. You don't overlook players of that quality just because they aren't choir boys. Just one example, but I would hate to think we picked Weideman over Curnow because Charlie got picked up for drink driving. We are simply not in a position to knock back elite talent.2 points

Good ball users with attitude do not grow on trees PSD especially around the MFC and that counts in his favour.2 points

It's a big night for the VFL with the player awards culminating with the Liston Trophy for the league's B & F. Casey Demon's Development League player Goy Lok has won the last A. Todd Medal as that competition is ending with Sunday's grand final between Casey and Williamstown. Bayley Fritsch is the 2017 Fothergill Round Medal winner - for best potential young talent in the VFL. Most of the past winners have been drafted and Fritsch will be no exception. Daisy Pearce, Melissa Hickey, Lily Mithen, Richelle Cranston and Karen Paxman have all been named in the VFL Womens Team of the Year.2 points

The thing that frustrates me the most about Trengove's situation, is that his foot injury was clearly mismanaged from the outset. The year leading up to it being diagnosed, he noticably slowed down and if you actually went back through the Demonland archives, there was a lot of chat that he had to be carrying a foot or similar injury, but he slugged through most of the season which surely can't have been good. And when you are a 21-22 year old captain, perhaps there was added pressure to stay on the park.2 points

Puopolo? so maybe shiel is on the market. The afl is killing grass roots footy, because of the saturation on TV. Sorry, the money is destroying the game, from the grass roots end. So kids are playing Jnr's, but the 2nd tier seniors, is dying from suffocation. As is country footy. TV saturation steals from the code, because people have had more than their fill, before leaving home.2 points

Would not include either of those with pick 10- especially not Hunt.2 points

well, i have mail (from 2 sources in and around the club mind you) and they are very confident Lever will be in the red and blue next season. and for those worrying about his pay and being the highest paid at the club, you need to spend some money to improve, and 800k in a couple of years wont be seen as a huge salary anyway. and who else is demanding all our money anyway??? according to some on here, we have depth issues and not enough players, so we can afford to pay him more to get him here while we are paying the younger/ less talented players less at the moment. If you dont want Lever for 800k a season in our side, i guess you are happy with us being in the middle of the ladder every year?2 points
