  1. Can't even discuss the actual game yet, only how the win felt. I was at the ground. I brought a ticket through Ticketmaster and some how ended up sitting in an Eagles reserved seating section. I literally could not see another Melbourne supporter. I was by myself. I cheered everything we did and got stared at, people whispered about me, one woman asked her husband if they could move away. I wasn't badly behaved. I was just passionate. Because those Eagles supporters they don't understand - I fell in love with this footy club in 1987. I was sitting with my old man on the half forward flank when Jimmy ran over the mark and Buckenara kicked the goal in the Prelim. I've sat through horrible horrible performances - multiple 100 point floggings at the G (just 4 years ago). I'd do it all again for that win, and the effort and energy we showed to drag ourselves over the line in that last quarter. When Tommy Mac kicked the last goal I went bananas. And then when the siren went I went absolutely ballistic. You know those sad people at sporting events going nuts who you think 'calm down mate, maybe you need more going on in your life'? - that was me! Im pretty sure I looked like the slow mo of Stevie J when he kicked the sealer a couple of weeks back - but in real time. It was ugly. I don't care. That was an absolute delight. I love this footy club, and I love that I at least have a place on the internet to share something like this with people who get it. Go The Dees. I believe.

  3. On the hamstring issue, broadly there are only two reasons for hamstring pain and tightness. Firstly referral from the low back, which has no time frame on recovery. Could be a day, could be ongoing and frustrating. The other is a tear, of which the severity spectrum is broad, from small and undetectable on MRI or US scan (? Jack Watts), to big rips or avulsions (Max Gawn). For ANY hamstring tear, as minor as they are, it is a mandatory 3 weeks, no exceptions. The reason for this is that statistically the risk of a worse re-tear under 3 weeks is unacceptably high. Hopefully Jack Watts, Salem's and Jeffy's are back related, otherwise they'll follow this management, sadly. If Jack Viney has injured his Acromioclavicular (AC) joint and it's structurally stable (which it must be, as he came back on after a jab), playing relates to being able to play with any pain. Jack won't miss, I'd say.

  4. Wow, what a game! What a difference three years makes. Some posters might recall a long post of mine after we were flogged by the Eagles in 2014 and how my son spent the whole walk back to the car and half the car trip home in inconsolable tears. Fast forward to last night and the little fella (now 9) finally gets to see his beloved Demons get the choccies over here in the west. First win I've seen over here since the last round in 2000 when we were on a hot winning streak towards a GF berth. What a win! To come back from where we were late in the 4th was inspirational. Hats off to all of them but especially Tommy, big Max, and captain Jack. Loved ANB's game and Bernie's, and Nev's... loved them all. Was seated in amongst the Melbourne allocation behind the goals at the opposite end to where Tommy kicked that goal and the reaction among our fans when it went through... We'll that's why people go to the footy. It was pure unadulterated joy and jubilation, a type of group ecstacy the likes of which I've never before experienced. Strangers bound together by their love and passion for a football club hugging each other, high fiving, screaming for joy at the final siren and then belting out a rousing rendition of Grand Old Flag. It's a night that i hope I'll never forget. A memory that I will always cherish, thank you MFC!! Just wanted to give a shout out to the bloke who was sat next to us who had flown across the country to attend the game. Had a great time spending a couple of hours talking footy and barracking for the Dees with ya mate. Hope to catch you around the forum some time.

  5. Wowee-omg what a game, my daughter god love her just saw her first Melbourne win in Perth, I've seen 1 live, at the WACA back in the 80s I think, bloody hell! That last minute was unbelievable, we were at that end, in the pocket, the noise was incredible, women were screaming everyone was screaming, it was deafening and then Tommy with brute strength kicks that goal and I swear to god our small party sounded like we filled that bay it was magnificent.

  6. Let's stop focussing on Clarrie. Let's have a closer look at the sniper who hit him. Will Schofield. Stats for the game 3 kicks & 3 HB, DE a mighty 50%. He only had 3 effective possessions the whole game. This is the quality of this terd. Clarrie pushes poor lil' Shuey in the chest. Sookfield sees no umpire in his line of vision, Clarrie is wide open and not expecting to have to defend a head-hit so he snipes him flush on the chin. "Tough guy" who's having a s*** game snipes a 19 year old kid because he thinks he'll get away with it. Or perhaps because he knows that it you hit someone, the focus immediately turns away from you on to whether the guy you hit staged or not. Gets reported instantly by an umpire standing 2 or 3 metres away over his right shoulder who had an unobstructed view of the front-on hit. By far the most cowardly and low an act that I can remember seeing in a sports competition. If Clarrie was in a situation where he expected that a snipe might come (which is what makes it a snipe rather than a fair hit) he probably could have ridden the hit to some extent. But he was wide open. If Hogan got 3 down to 2 for the hit on Rowe, Sookfield should get at least that. But by far the worst part is the idiots on this site who want to say that the 19 year old staged what was only glancing blow. Just pathetic.

  7. So, went to a 40th tonight. Was able to maintain a strict media blackout as attendees were not footy people at all. Got home less drunk than anticipated (I took a 19L keg of homebrew) and decided to watch the Foxtel recording. Four points down with three minutes to go in the last and .... Assume we lost?

  8. The 2nd edition of tomorrows h/sun. the first one had Grundys mark but Tommy's performance was better. Makes me nervous when media people talk about us potentially being a contender. But we are playing pretty good footy. Win next week and it will be on.

  10. It was a pleasure to wake up this morning and not have multiple reported posts to deal with. What a difference winning makes to the life of the admin team. If only my kids could take a leaf out of the behaviour of Demonlanders the morning after a win.

  11. I survived , I was behind the goals the as the ball sailed through I stood up double fisted pump the air and yelled out a very long Yesssssssss that you may have heard on the east coast surrounded by some of the most one eyed supporters I have everseen. Back to the game 1. We are the most competitive Melb side in my 45yrs watching. 2. Jack Viney is the toughest captain since Voss and without him we would have lost. 3. Max Gawn is a class act 4.We are never beaten 5. Our Premiership window is open and we could do this in 2017 6. I don't want to trade Tmac anymore.

  12. Well, my planned 3 month abstinence from beers failed last night but after completing early 8 weeks I'm not too disappointed with myself - particularly because I think a celebratory drink was justified. I did however manage to lose my wallet with my mates Eagles membership card in it which I haven't got around to telling him about yet. The last minute was excellent given that I was surrounded by smug Eagles supporters listening to the radio saying "only 40 seconds left... only 21 seconds left now... bad luck mate". When Tmac kicked that goal I turned to the whole bay and went fecking nuts. One bloke called me a c$&t while giving me the finger which was nice. Probably in return for telling him earlier to cover up his hot chips in case 'Gaffy' jumped the fence. Last night just reconfirmed to me that WC supporters are a bunch of sore losers.

  14. The good news is I caught the full replay this morning. Sunday Sippers (home brewed American Wheat Beer) straight out of the Demons keg fridge have been superb. Brother-in-law (Bombres) is here this arvo so I made him watch the last 15 minutes of the game because I could...might watch it again later on too.

  17. A lot has been said about the win but one thing that hasn't had much coverage is the job Melksham did on Hurn. 3 kicks for the game (5 disposals in total) removed a lot of their movement from the back half. I suspect he will get Jake Lloyd or Mills next week.

  19. What is embarrassing is the media getting all excited and trying to blow it up as a big deal. They go after a 19yo kid but treat the Rance stage last week with kit gloves. In the ch7 post game interview by Darcy and Richo they appeared to bait him by asking if the hit connected or if it hurt. Terrible thing to do to a 19yo on national televison. They should be ashamed. To his credit Clarrie took it on the chin (no pun intended) and stood up for himself really well.

  20. So just to clarify.... Dimma is coach of the year so far. Collingwood have the best midfield, and the Swans are currently the inform team of the comp? Who is Mark Robinson.

  23. Why would he even stage anyway? There was no free kick on offer. The way the footy public wanted to hang him over it was embarrassing, but that's to be expected. Let's be honest, when something looks dubious, it's fun to assume the worst interpretation when it comes to opposition players and bag them for it a bit. But I would have thought most MFC supporters would want to give him the benefit doubt. I think if you're a Melbourne supporter giving him stick over it, you should be ashamed of yourself.

  29. On Saturday night scoreboard which followed our game, Ben Dixon and Kate Sheehan were praising the game of Max Gawn in regards to his 19 hitouts to advantage in his first game back from a long absence. To quote Brad Johnson, the so called host of this show in reply to their praise of Max. " He's done that on the back of one game in the 2's so he was ready to do that." I hope that not one dollar from my Foxtel subscription goes to a buffoon like Johnson. It's bewildering the amount of times these so called experts misinform the viewers and getting paid top dollar to do it. You can't value their opinions at all, that's why Demonland is the best fan forum around for opinions, discussions and humour. Keep up the good work team! Best Sunday ever coming up!!!

  30. Elbowing players in the face after the siren is not a great look for the sport. The media and AFL would be better placed focussing on sending this message rather than arguing whether it was a glancing blow or not. from my perspective, Oliver's reaction clearly demonstrated it hurt. #givehimweeks

  31. My wife walked into the front room where I was watching the game last night just as Plugger Mac kicked the winner. She looked at me strangely, as I was standing right in front of the TV shaking my fists in a more animated version of Goody. It took me a while to explain we'd just gone in front with 20 secs to go because I was panting quite hard. she understood in the end, I think. Took me a while to wind down!

  35. Harmesy was the only player to venture over to the Eagles members area where I was seated so I yelled as loud I could and he came over for man-hug. I said to him that "that was f'king epic" and he replied "yeah, it was a good win".

  36. We are now a team that plays 4 quarters. We are now a team that is competitive. We are now a team that wants to WN. I haven't felt this happy or proud about our club in a very long time. Keep it up boys.

  37. I couldnt watch it ....could listen on the radio. On the replay Viney clearly playing the ball and eyes firmly on it so hopefully he'll be ok. But he may miss with his shoulder anyway. At half time the idiot WA commentators were both sayng Oliver should get suspended for faking re the hit he took. Saying the league needed to crack down on players falling over for frees. Unbelievable. Why would you "fake" for a free AFTER the half time siren...then lie on the ground holding your chin. hmmmmm, crazy thought I know, but maybe he got hit??? Then with 5 minutes to go they started gloating..remembering the way the world was in 2002 (the last tie we beat them there) Each trying to out do each other. Sooooooo satisfying to shut them up it really was.

  40. I genuinely don't think I'm overstating it by saying that was the most significant win for this club in over a decade. Several star players missing, key in game injuries, 6 day break, interstate trip where we haven't won in 15 years, final quarter (and very late) deficit... HUGE amount of grit, flair and mental toughness showed by the boys. This team has officially arrived. [censored] I love this club.

  44. Jack Viney's game tonight is one of the most courageous performances I've seen from a captain in Melbourne colours. He is toughness personified, he will get all coaches votes and should have it double. Tommy Mac, wow. What a night, 5 goals anywhere anytime is good. Against the eagles on their home turf, amazing. What a game!
