Dees Keen on Hayward

Thanks DD.

My worry is Heywood is more of a mark and kick at goal fwd, rather than a ground ball player. Smacca is more dynamic and has different qualities, such as athletic and defensive qualities. Case in point is Kozzie. I’m not against Heywood, just not at a price that is too high. His strength and marking ability would be a  ask us a better team.

I agree more midfield depth and a KPB is a priority

Stats and influence on a game are two different things.

Can't argue with much of that.

I watch the Swans quite a bit and just not as impressed with Hayward as some seem to be on here.

If we could only land such players on low coin as suggested.   My fear is this rarely happens now with established players at mid rated (& especially higher rated) clubs?  They often want overs (assuming player is not a FA), even for middle rung (or lower) strength players on their list.

52% career accuracy....just above Florent (who's getting a mention here)  @ 50% and ahead of the specialist small forward Papley @ 47%.  Papley averages 1.6 goals a game.

Do we need another medium forward though?  We have Fritta (1.7 goals a game @ 57% accuracy) & Smacca, who once he gets up to speed appears to be slightly more effective than  Hayward...

Screenshot_20240410_072117_SamsungInternet.jpg.76ca0ff7aeaa322f716df4a10d1f53c5.jpg

We seriously need more mid field class / depth and a KF for 25 and beyond,  assuming Petty's not extending beyond next season and this is BB's last year.

We might also need to replace Maysie if Adams doesn't come on this season.  I'd be seriously considering  Sam Collins for an interim stop gap.  30 yo when he comes out of contract in 25/26.

Just my view but i'd like to see us putting  effort / cap space $$ into these three areas.

Haward has almost played 100 more games than McAdam, which I would argue means his starts are much better.  not to mention the professionalism.

Im not 100% sure about the mid class, unless it is uber class.  The perfect mids for our team would be a Merrett, Dawson, Gulden type player.  otherwise I don't think they are worth chasing with our core mid group.

McLuggage is a free agent and could be that player!

Agreed. With Jason Taylor steadily churning out quality players everywhere except over 193cm, we really need to make that investment.

Fullarton hasn't had a chance yet and I instinctively like him as a prospect, but we can't keep churning through other club's surplus.

Taylor, Weitering and Harris Andrews are all free agents at end of 2025, for what it is worth. ;)

Taylor yes, Andrews and Weitering are  maybe not fit enough for us.

Weitering the Melbourne supporter you mean? 😜

I thought he'd recently extended, but happy to hear he could be on the market post 2025. Would be the perfect May replacement and since he gives his bank details away to anyone, he might need the extra cash.

I reckon there is as much chance of Weitering going to the Dees as there is of Trac going to the Pies.

Weitering's contract is up at the end of 2025 but I reckon Carlton will definitely be looking after him and Tom De Koning and have probably already budgeted cap space to make it happen.

The KP recruiting failures from JT is not actually the case. Can you provide (other than Weid) his failures? Back it up with draft position too.

Petty, Jackson and Vanrooyen are his three winners.

Weideman is the clear miss at pick 9 2015.

There are only a few late pick busts like Hulett and Kielty, the rest are top up or role players like Mitch Brown and Majak Daw.

We have traded in May, Lever, Ben Brown, Grundy, Tomlinson and Fullerton during that time which has reduced the need to take a punt on a late pick.

If Jackson was still on the list people would probably never question his recruitment of talls. It's only because he left and there is an obvious hole in the list that people just come up with the post you replied to without looking at evidence.

I still can’t see a miss other than Wied. There are always misses with late picks and you can’t pin that on JT.

Jackson is a hit. He left and that is not on JT.

Hulett and Kielty is not a sample size, as is Mitch Brown or Daw. They were back ups only, that came cheap.

Best mate is a Swans supporter. He's not overly fond of Heywood and couldn't care less if he leaves. "Kicks 3 goals then disappears for a month. Doesn't have the physical presence of other bigs. Doesn't have the speed or intensity of Paps and co. Easy one to move on for cap space".

Just signed a 5 year extension with the Swans. 'Good mail'?🤣

Good luck to Hayward and the Swans. The mail from the very reliable poster  was that the clubs were keen on his services, not necessarily he would end up there.

And no need to be a [censored] smart azz about it.

Goodwindees has an excellent track record of good mail that they generously share here, often well before it hits the media.

To be fair Deelectable’s probably not been on Land long enough to be familiar with GoodwinDees track record.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
