Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

NON-MFC: Opening Round

Lions will be in the gun this week.

Coughing up a lead in that manner, at home, to an injury depleted team was a choke of epic proportions.

Brisbane, Port and Melbourne both under a lot of pressure this season. I honestly reckon at least one of those coaches will be gone within the next 12 months.

A lot of people saying Carlton will drop off. They have their defense sorted. Once their elite forwards and connections click they'll be very hard to beat.

I’d love to see how we go with our forward line settled and on the park for longer than 3 weeks.

Credit to Carlton - those are the types of wins that Premiership teams look back on as season defining moments that show just how much belief they had in themselves

And to be honest the last time I remember a Dees game like that was Round 23 2021 against Geelong

Don’t get me wrong - I still think we can win a flag this year and could have won last year if not for our fwd line injuries

But jeez sometimes teams just have that intangible aura around them that just propels them to victory - Collingwood had it last year and perhaps the Blues will have it this year

How does even a non MFC thread end up as peak MFCSS? Is there nowhere to go where it doesn't take over?

And against us last year blew a 4 goal lead with less than 10 minutes to go.

Our final round v Sydney last year had similarities to the Geelong 2021 match.  I think an objective position of our past 2 years is that we were good enough to win enough games to finish top 4 but had too many banged up players and limped into finals (2022) and injuries to key personnel (2023) which meant we were probably a 1 to 2 goal worse side than if we had Petty or Melksham and a fit Fritta going into finals.

Sydney beat us on Thursday night because they are a very good disciplined side and we didn't handle the slippery ball well around stoppage and were able to take our strength away from us and then us it to their advantage.

I also wouldn't be surprised if changes to our game style where we move the ball more aggressively take a bit of time to bed in and while we still win the majority of our games that our best form is through the second half of the season.

Agree with all of the above

My point was more around that intangible feeling that some teams seem to have when they’re on their way to a flag - almost a sense of inevitability

And yes I’m very aware that’s perhaps the least analytical way to look at the game 😅

Any loss for Brisbane, especially at the GABBA this year is a good thing; regardless of who it’s against.  That place is a fortress and their list is very, very strong.

Carlton wins can be pegged back as they share the G and their home ground advantage.  Any loss for Lions at home is worth its weight in gold for any team that aspires to be top 4.  (Which I’m hoping we still do!)

Long, long season ahead and no one would be writing off the lions, just like no one should be writing off us either.

Huge loss. Arguably their most important player in terms of attacking from the back half and remaining composed under pressure. If Coleman played in the second half last night, Brisbane win.

What really grinds my gears is that the blues can change how they kick into F50 and how their forwards move DURING A GAME while we have numerous preseasons and in game opportunities to do so and can’t.  (Also kicking for goal).

At the start of the year  had a gut feeling we might struggle this season and I know it’s only one game but geez it’s very frustrating to watch AGAIN.

The Brisbane win last year had that precise same feeling. In the conversation for our best H&A win under Goodwin.

But tbh every finals contender has one of these wins every year.

This is hard because I  want to see yze do well because he deserves to be a senior coach, but I don't want Richmond winning. Thank goodness he didn't get the essendon gig.

Interesting to see what dimma can do with this gc team

What's with the narrative that all this round's games are sold out? Carrara is half empty. Don't they realise we all have eyes?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
