Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Let's try to be positive here. We had a clear need for more speed and outside talent. This kid directly addresses that and I'm sure we wouldn't have taken him at 7 if we were sure he'd be there at 13. JT has given us no reason to distrust his ability to find talent (especially bolter talent).

There’s a reason GWS traded pick 8 to the Crows. They were set to take him.

We wanted more midfield depth - we've got two young tall mids, one outside with speed and polish and the other inside with ability forward. Tick tick.

Don't get seduced by the fox rankings or scout profiles - it's all nonsense Fox do to try and make this like the NFL (where form is far more exposed and the metrics far more scientific). The order of Windsor at 7 was because both GWS and Essendon were keen. Tholstrup we clearly believed would last to 13 whereas Caleb wouldn't have

Maybe we know that.

It doesn't mean you have to be excited by selections.

That said, two quality players inside 13 adds to a strong group of 23 and unders.

Very excited by this selection. Been wanting some fast outside zip and class for a while - potential to make a huge difference over the coming years (if not straight away).

Welcome Caleb!

Very good selection. Windsor is the type of outside running midfielder player needed by the Dees. He likes to run with the footy and gets good “Metres” gained through “run and kick” footy. His pace is his biggest asset but what I also like is his desire to run and chase and tackle down opponents.  He’s not silky skilled but it’s no weakness. Welcome aboard. Go Dees !!

Looks a speed demon. Welcome aboard Caleb!

We look forward to you motoring up and down the wings of the MCG pinpointing passes for years to come.

Yes, summed it up well

He looks a likely type and certainly what we're looking for

Default move is to lower the eyes by the looks of it.  Again, what we're in need of

Good pace too

Like some others I can't get too excited by Windsor at pick 7.  I'd take Curtin ahead of him every day of the week.

That said, Taylor has an excellent record, so I'll back his judgement.

Windsor may well play 200 games and be a very valuable player, but I don't see his type of player as a top 10 selection.

Nick Daicos is a poor comparison, because he's not purely playing a wing role.  In fact, he never has.  He's no midfield beast, but he does have good history in a midfield role and the associated metrics that follow.

Josh Daicos is a better comparison, because he does play that role..  And despite him being an AA and a B&F winner in a premiership year I still wouldn't take him with a top 7 pick in a National Draft.

I know generational talents are rare in the top 7, but I still want to back myself to land one.  Curtin could be one, whereas I'll be shocked if Windsor is.

C'est la vie.

Have you watched his high lights ?

We need his skill and power and is a needs pick. Is a ripper guy and a real live wire according to the experts and he will be a great Clubman also.

Doesn't look scared of contact like some wingmen, hopefully he can play off a flank and role through the centre bounces in time

Thankfully when the recruiting team draft players, they aren’t just looking towards the following year where it’s likely the draftee will play a handful of games at AFL level if they’re lucky.

He may start on the wing or even on a back or forward flank but I think in time he has the attributes of running through the midfield in mostly an outside role.

PICK 7 - CALEB WINDSOR (Melbourne)

"It's bloody awesome. I can't believe it. I did not expect to be a top 10 pick. I'm so grateful for the opportunity they've given me. Probably the best feeling ever when all my best mates jumped on me when I got my name called out. Half of my family goes for [the Demons] so I know a bit about them! Obviously want to play my first game, stay in the team and win a premiership. I play on the wing and I pride myself on my pace and my defensive pressure."

Anyone know who was our last draft pick to walk into the team at round 1?

Kozzie played round 1 in 2020 (Jackson debuted in R2)

Wilson and perhaps Duursma were the only other players you'd class as outside runners.

There's certainly a good smattering of pacey players but a fair few of them are half backs or small forwards.

In a comp where every team is desperately chasing speed and skill I can absolutely see why we went hard for the best one we could get.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
