Remember they took the cup around to his home in 21. It was on TV. He held it up.

i was born after he retired from playing, but for me as young lad he was the Melbourne Football club. When he returned to coach in 81, it like the second coming. It didn't work out in the end, but he set the tone for a revival under Northey. Humble, generous with his time and a Demon to the end. he will be missed.

Not sure that there's been a bigger contributor to the post war game.

A great player and a great coach.

His halftime instruction to handball at all costs in the 1970 Grand Final changed football forever.

RIP Ron

RIP Ron, the game has lost it's greatest son.

RIP RDB Demon and AFL Legend.

Sincerest condolences to family and friends.

With EJ the two Mr. Footballs. Probably the biggest name in AFL ever.

Very sad day.

RIP a titan of the game. A gentleman. I’m glad he got to see our flag In 21. Sad way to cap off a hard week 😔

RIP legend, lived a great life, an icon of the club and the game nationally. At least he saw the 2021 flag.

Simply our finest. Farewell Ronald Dale.

🐐 #31

RIP

This was the soundtrack to my childhood, and that of @Demonland.

In the early 80’s Mike Brady released an album called “Songs of Football’s Greatest Sons”, with tracks celebrating the game’s best. As the song explains, Ron was the captain of the group.

We listened to this non-stop until the cassette warped ( a bit like the beginning of this recording).

A long time ago and still relatively new to football, I attended a club function and got to shake hands and make a little small talk with Mr Barassi, who seemed like a man pre-set to be mildly amused by everything. It was only a week later when I told a Carlton-supporting friend and she absolutely lost her basket in shock that I quite grasped the significance of this pleasant granddad!

Ron Barassi is surely the ultimate example of the truly great not needing to tell anyone they are great.

Always will be.

What 24 hrs it has been for the MFC, Rest in Peace big Ron.

Icon, Legend, Mr.MFC.

Such a massive part of football. ICON and LEGEND.

Very sad news. Will always be remembered as a legend of the Melbourne Football Club and an innovator of VFL/AFL who could move and change with the times. Rest in Peace.

So very sad to hear the news. I heard things were dire when he was unable to attend the 50 year+ members a month or so ago. My thoughts to his wife Cherryl who was his rock.

HE WAS MELBOURNE.

Vale the great man.

A true legend.  Perhaps the greatest figure in the games history and a great bloke who wanted, demanded and got the bets out of those around him.

'Twinkle Toes' according to my Mum. '31' according to my back.

A seeming permanence, but inevitably not so.

Thanks, Ron.

Noffy, Hatchy and Randy lead Adelaide’s finals-hardened flock to IKON Park for a blockbuster semi-final against Kate Hore and Hanksy’s mighty Demons.  Adelaide has dropped four of its past five matches at this ground — let’s hope that trend holds.  But don’t expect charity — Doc Clarke brings an experienced, battle-worthy murder of Crows.
