Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Still think a phone call to Tom Fullerton (Lions) might be worth a go.  He kicked 30.22 in the VFL as a ruck/forward.  He is a big bodied ruck/forward that could relieve Maxy in the 6-7 minutes a quarter but also be capable ahead of the big sticks. Means we’d let JVR be a permanent forward and potentially cover if Petty was delayed in his return.

And on 6th October …

Brisbane Lions ruck/forward Tom Fullarton has requested a trade to Melbourne.

Yes. I agree. Tom Fullerton on a 3 year deal.  Could carry the load to assist Gawn and also play forward when needed.  Has the physical ability and knows how to use his strength.  Wouldn’t be a high cost imv.

And snap …

Tom Fullarton maybe as another cheap option. Out of contract I believe but haven't heard about any specific speculation around him.

Clearly we hoped BBB and Tom Mac would be ok until the end of their contracts next year and that Schache would somehow improve from his disclosed AFL form.

and, as well as none of those scenarios working, there were the additional issues of Fritfoot, Pettyfoot, and Melknee.

How many hits can a team take in a key area, and survive - in retrospect we did bloody well to finish H&A 4th, and to come very close in two finals.

The Hawkins late bid means we've had no other options that we were looking into and I think we were hoping Hawkin was willing to jump on board.

I think we kind of knew that though, the reality was to sign anyone close to A grade we would need someone contracted to decide they wanted out, and the club to be willing to do the trade.

I do think we're building up a war chest of cap space for next year however and that's when we will be looking to make a splash

Agreed.  Maybe a touch of desperation.
We have JVR (good but developing) and probably Petty (backman turned forward) as the preferred tall forwards.  Then it’s a mixed bunch of the aged/frail BBB & TMCD, cheeselike Schache, young Jefferson has potential and is about 2 years away, and maybe Fullerton as a ruck/forward support for Gawn. Mixed lollies options !!!

No it doesn’t. It means, at most, we have no locked in trade.

If we’re exploring other forwards but nothing locked in, and then we hear Hawkins might want a phone call, it’s not surprising that we called. If the other options don’t come off, it’s worth having tried. Imagine if he was interested, we didn’t ask, and then the big fish we are seeking fell through.

Plus no doubt someone on here in 2024 will say “did we even pick up the phone and ask Hawkins?”.

I’m still banging on about Liam Reidy at Fremantle

https://www.fremantlefc.com.au/players/4806/liam-reidy

He he is behind Darcy and Jackson

originally a fwd converted to ruck

beautiful left foot kick

23 yo 204 cm 104 kg

provides a fwd and ruck option

comes from Melbourne

I’m not saying Reidy as the the main play

go after Hawkins lynch et al but as depth Reidy would be cheap

I don't understand Demonland's obsession with a key forward.

Look at what Collingwood just did. They had Cox and Mihocek as keys.

Unless it's Naughton, nobody is going to be able to mark the majority of ball we have coming in.

I don't know what the club will do this trade period, but my view is that we've got to get finishers and users both in the forward half and through the midfield.

ANB, Langdon, Spargo, Chandler and all of Trac, Oliver and Viney starting in the midfield next year isn't going to win us a flag. Sure, it'll have us competing. But the same issues will arise, guaranteed.

They had McStay make a huge difference in 2 finals that were tougher scoring match ups. And Billy Frampton doing his best Billy Frampton (somewhat ok job on Harris for 3/4s).

If you can guarantee JVR, Petty and maybe Joel Smith are healthy come crunch time we are in with a chance.

But geez it would be nice to have someone with a pulse to turn to so we don’t have to pick between Schache, T Mc and BBB.

That said, the draft will inject some fresh legs but I’d love to see one addition of pace and/or skill just as much as a tall forward. In fact, given we’ve added Fullarton and McAdam I’d say pace and skill takes priority one.

I have no intel behind what I'm about to say, but i have a sneaking suspicion we are secretly after a key forward who's current training ground is not to far away from the MCG.

One of the reasons we are clearing the decks for cap space.

Haha.

Soooo what are you saying?

McStay was a free agent and the pies went hard after him. So many pundits laughed at Collingwood's aggression to land him. I don't know what you're saying?

They got Billy Frampton for peanuts who ended up playing a pivitol role on Andrews in the granny.

All of this backs my point which is that supporters have nfi by wanting to hold onto players because they're emotionally attached.

Everyone thought Collingwood would be cooked both culturally and list-wise when Treloar and Stephenson left. And last year everyone laughed at them for their inclusions and the fact they pushed Grundy out. Look what happened? HELLLLOOOOO.

I think the MFC need to take a leaf.

Time to look FORWARDDDDDDD. Not just next year and the year after.

We've wasted two finals campaigns by staying stagnant.

I wanted McStay, thought the price was great. Thought Grundy for McStay when they had 2 competent rucks was great. I’ve got 100 posts last year bemoaning us getting Grundy rather than being all in on McStay.

All I’m saying is McStay with Mihocek got them to a flag. Frampton with Mihocek won them a flag. No Tom McDonalds or Ben Browns.

Hopefully Fullarton is our Frampton although I’m doubtful. We could still do with one more strong athletic body.

They traded Treloar from their overstocked midfield. They traded a stunted and ordinary Stephenson (and Phillips). Moves more akin to letting go Harmes and JJ than trading a key forward.

Freshened their midfield and small forward mix.

Find me a McStay and I’ll trade Petty. Otherwise the Pies kept Moore (through significant injury issues), Howe, Mihocek, Cox. The only quality tall they moved on was a massively overpaid ruck for which they already had a replacement in Darcy Cameron.

Interesting argument looking at the statistics in isolation. However, between Collingwood and Melbourne there is a stark contrast in how the ball is being delivered into the forward 50; their system suits forwards who are leading into space. Our system is different and I think requires a strong tall contested KPF to make it more effective.

Our 'system' that is 'different' is guaranteed to stifle and crowd our scoring opportunities (as evidenced week in, week out); it is only through spacemakers, space exploiters, space finders merging with intent from the forward line feeders that we will nail goals, more frequently, more unexpectedly, more comprehensively, more accurately. Bang, bang, bang. Bang.

I also think that our 'system' sucks. However, I have no influence in being able to change it.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
