They played from behind all night (that doesn't get tolerated at suburban level) Refused to put their bodies on the line and none of them like body contact

We're ok in dry weather but as soon as it gets wet and slippery we hang out the back looking for the cheapie

Besides the occasional flash of brilliance, what in earth has happened to Kozzy Pickett since he signed his contract? No defensive pressure, looks completely lost and never gets front and centre . remains a dangerous commodity, but boy oh boy he looks lazy and only interested if a freakish goal is on offer.

All bloody season Goodwin said we wanted Petty tried forward. He has a great game against the Hawks and gets injured. Tomlinson comes in and plays a pivotal role and we have our best defensive fortnight of the season. 
Petty is declared fit and is immediately sent back at the expense of Tomlinson, leaving Joel Smith and a fetus to play on Tom Stewart. 
The mind boggles. 

Jaded, I was at a function tonight in Sydney where our Pres attended and had a talk at half time. She made an interesting comment about Petty and Tomlinson. A pretty brutal one actually. She stated that the club really rate Petty playing in defence. He was only playing forward because there was no one else. Also said that Petty will be playing in defence in the finals. Tomlinson won’t be playing in September. 
I also had no idea Kate was so tall!

You know what also isn't tolerated in wet weather in suburban footy, over handballing.

Look at the kicks to handball ratios of both teams and then look at who won.

We tried to play dry footy in the wet and we have lost all 4 wet games and one very humid wet ball one.

Dumb coaching or footballers or both.

So we're league leaders for points from defensive half chains, averaging 38.6 points from this source.

Tonight, we scored 4 points from these defensive half chains, to Geelong's 5 goals 3.

So although our chaining from contest in the middle of the ground worked at times to gain territory, we didn't score enough once the ball was in our forward half.

I'm concerned that this tweak of chaining out of contests and the back half is actually something that can break down badly in the wet weather.

Geelong were just cleaner when they chained out of contest and our defensive structures completely broke down.

I wouldn't want us playing a final in the wet weather. Let me put it that way.

Thought we had them at the start to the 4th. Then with all those entries we didn't score. The press didn't work, and they left the area without pressure once they were able to find space and go quickly.

Tracc was distracted by being manhandled. Needs to ignore them and just go harder.

Spargs made zero impact when he came on, JJ is being wasted.

Too many handballs on a wet night. 

Why do so many of our players come in and out of the game? 

A few missed tackles cost us.

We can't allow the other to get so many smothers, a bit of shimmy and some stepping would help.

Had times when we created an open forward area, but couldn't win the one on one's.

The Cats killed us with defensive marks, and we couldn't handle the slippery ball or take our own marks.

What's happened to Chandlers kicking?

Where is our poise, thought we panicked too many times.

Our defence was great in the first half, but without the forwards taking the opportunities and holding the ball in, they ran out of steam by the 4th quarter. 

How did our mids not dominate them?

I agree ... for a bloke who has crazy-good elusive skills, he can't create separation as the ball comes into the forward line

He's good enough to lead up and take easy marks but doesn't.  Front & centre?  I rarely see it.  But we've often got 4 of those types and none of them take up the front & square position anywhere near enough times

And considering the delivery into our forward line is often directed at packs, front & centre is the place to be.  But we are not there.  Must be frustrating for the coach

As for Smith, Fritsch, JVR & Gawn, none of the 4 fight for the front position anywhere near enough.  Basic stuff but we can't execute

As a result, the oppisition backmen often take easy marks or spoil the ball towards the boundary line

Kicking for goal is problematical as well. 

Backline terrific, midfield very good (although delivery to the forward line is questionable) but with a dodgy forward line

Our mids delivery into the forward line would improve if we had a stack more movement in our forward line

Assuming we play finals and if we are to contend, we will need to sort out our forward line structures quick-smart

I was there.

The conditions were ****house.

As soon as they got 2 goals up we were F’d.

In the off season we need to go hard at a genuine seasoned Key Forward.

Agree Bowey is in our best team. But also agree with the point that we're close to full strength and yet are clearly deficient. Put simply, we lack a bit of brilliance. Too many dour and or limited players who regularly disappoint. Of the younger players, only Rivers has come on.  Pickett has been very disappointing. Sparrow is a trier. But he is now is his 4th or 5th season and is clearly never going to be a top liner. One could go on. We're a good team on our day. But a premiership candidate? Hard to see that at the moment. As someone else has said, we keep losing the same way.

Very good points ... and we've been handball-happy in the wet too often.  You'd reckon we would have learnt by now that territory gained in the wet is ultra-important

Dumb football all round and from memory, I reckon we over-did the handballing at catpark last year as well (along with other wet weather games)

So our forward line can look good at times (and perform quite well) but I reckon that's on the back of our backline & midfield performing in a stellar fashion

Ultimately it's about winning the premiership so can our forward line help deliver another flag?

Shocking  selection effort and feel very sorry for Tommo who played his best game ever for the Club. Jordon Spargo and Chin are all not playing well and ANB must be dropped to get more out of him. Petty was rushed back despite Goody saying things at times which don't happen. 

From one of our best efforts which was like a 5/6 goal thrashing of Pies we flounder again scoring poorly when playing well. We have to put goals on the board when on top and not give sides the opportunity to get back into it.

That's really 4 bad last quarters in the last 5 games. Port we lead at 3:4 timeFreo was average, against Blues only 1 goal Pies they out scored  us as we wasted the shots and this effort we folded again from in front. '

Can't rely on good 4th quarters any more. Looking a bit like last year.

There  are opportunities but they are wasted with poor football.

The answer stares at us mockingly…Steph May at full forward. Time to develop his replacement in defence right now in the heat of the contest…Turner? Obviously the board and the coach need to be removed. None of this will happen but it really should if we are serious about not wasting the talent on hand. We are soft when it matters and our so called leadership lacks the courage to try new ideas. We must harness the all or nothing style, ruthless and efficient that was so apparent in 21. The team actually looks more balanced without Oliver so don’t expect things to improve with his return. Spargo is a competitive player badly out of form and lacking the room to move. One of spargo, kozie or chandler not all three. Angus Breysure ffs what is your role in the team? Petty should stay half forward. Max you are the captain…so [censored] play like that!! Well that's top 2 done and dusted, as much as the loss sucked dog appendage, lets be honest we aren't playing at this ground come finals time.

Its all about finishing in the top 4 rather play at the G but Adelaide Oval should hold no fear.              Port will be under truck loads of pressure.

The last quarter fade out was very surprising hoping its an aberration to their credit Ferals were more desperate and smarter around the ground.

Not throwing out all the toys from the cot just yet, plenty of footy to play but we don't play well in the wet that's for damn sure.

We relied too much on our only genuine extractor in Viney (with Clarry out) and then took one of our other minor extractors off for Spargo.

In dry weather Viney will sometimes get the odd clearance assist from Max (taking the ball directly out of the ruck contest and kicking forward or occasional HB to receiver) and to a slightly lessor extent even Grundy.

In wet weather though neither of the taps provided any drive forward and can't recall one extraction or clearance from either.

Tracc about the only other that got the odd extraction/first use off to a receiver in congestion.

Left Viney exposed and was expected  to do the bulk of this work over four quarters.  Simply asking too much from the VC.

The battle was always going to be won and lost at the source.  Not sure why you would not leave Jordan on as another mid field / stoppage attendee.

Add to this our lack of run & drive by either winger.  Langdon getting stuck / caught and/or turning the ball over a fair bit and from the get go.  He set the tone early.

Forwards not presenting often enough resulting in a crowded forward zone.

Max being played forward instead of behind the ball for much of the night.

No true CHF yet we dump a number of our kicks there and watched oppo tall defenders run in for the easy intercept.  Each oppo defensive line must see this on their reviews every week and lick their chops at the prospect here.

The list of glaring flaws goes on and on.

A decent quality list being poorly managed in the wet and especially from a mid / forward perspective.  Forward craft is a complete shambles resulting in terribble conversion % giving the oppo a big sniff of winning almost every week.

We rarely look comfortable and a shoe in to win any match as a result, even against some of the lessor lights.

On the "Monday's" (the main training sessions out at Casey are closed), I've not seen the forward very often play when they have opponents on them. They have been practicing with being able to make leads that suit the players delivering it. They lead out then change angles and the ball is delivered easily.

I would suggest getting the coaches to at least put some plastic dummies in the way so as to increase the level of difficulty. 

When they do have an opponent at training it seems they are working hard to get separation by doing the "ring a ring a rosy". I very rarely see the double back and lead again, and having that frantic multiple leading movement.  

 During the games they have adopted the close area movement and that ends up causing the deliveries to be on their heads. They also appear stagnant.

Good idea with the banner, but I'm shy, and just cannot do it. Also, in the coaches, I trust.
