Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hoskin-Elliott is the definition of a vanilla footballer.

It's incredible how he gets a game week after week, year after year. He's good for one (1) decent football act per match (eg. a contested mark, sometimes a goal). The rest of the time he just takes up space.

Can anyone explain to me the whole John Denver song thing at the Gabba.  West Virginia ,,  etc, etc, ?????

Is it a Queensland thing only they would understand???

They think we're Mexicans so clearly their grasp of geography is limited at best. Maybe they think they can see Russia from their front porches.

I can't work out what can be taken from that game. you'd like to think there is a blueprint against the Pies but they blew a lot of chances. i suspect the slippery, dewy conditions at the Gabba at night have been an adjustment for the Dees and Pies

My thoughts exactly. On top of  no ruck, the pies also, as you point out, kicked for goal really poorly. eg nick daicos hits the post from direct in front  15 m on the run. Elliot kicks 3 behinds all of which he normally nails. If I was a pie Id be feeling pretty confident of the match up if it happens again. I also see no blueprint there of how to beat the pies. In fact watching that game, and how undermanned they were, only  makes me feel even more wary of them than I was before that game.

Thought the same. Pies were up and running in that last quarter by comparison to Lions who looked to be hanging on.

Play that game again on the MCG it's probably a Pies win

Charlie Cameron used to have Baby Shark.

Wonder if the media will go after their love child Nick Daicos for the dive and/or the massive squibbing of the hard ball?

he might be a good player and excellent kick, but he is such an outside player. a great receiver.

I am no expert but will venture a couple of observations.

The Wobbles were caught out on the counter with no players able to get back quickly.

Their defence is not very good with really only one quality back, Moore.

The Bears seemed to take the corridor away either by matching numbers or blocking the area. Compared to other games they seemed o be forced around the boundaries more than other games.

And yes Daicos should have ben reported for staging and did shirk a couple of times. I hope Harmes is available when we play them or at least Viney  that will sort him out. He needs clean space, clarry on the other hand works in the middle often with several hanging off him.

I think their defence is better than that. They just don't protect it well when they turn it over in the middle because every is forward of the ball.

Agree with that, I think my point is that Moore seems able to get back and anticipate whilst the others are struggling to do so but I accept its an exaggeration on my part. I think my  point is their gameplan is not built on defence first. Clearly there is way to disrupt how they like to play.

All things considered, Brisbane have lucked out in both of their home games this year.

Round 2 - Max goes down in the opening minutes giving them the ruck advantage as well as playing against a disorganized Melbourne lineup for most of the night.

Round 4 - No Collingwood rucks at all.

Could easily be 0 and 4.

True but I also think they also get a massive advantage from the conditions of the ground and weather.

Apparently it’s Charlie Cameron’s favourite song, hence they play it after he scores a goal.

The real story here is they were playing the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack after Smokin Joe’s second goal.

Torturous stuff, perhaps it’s cunning psychological warfare. Or maybe the fan engagement team at BLFC are completely cooked.

This lists the goal celebration song of choice for the Lions players.
https://www.neds.com.au/blog/2022/05/brisbane-lions-player-songs-ranked/

You don’t hear some of these songs since it’s only when a goal is kicked by that particular player.

As for Joe Daniher, his choice is Let it go from the movie Frozen. My guess is that this might be a tongue-in-cheek choice. Reason being, he actually has awesome taste in music. He’s very much into alternative/non-mainstream music. I’m guessing he was told it had to be a well-known song that everyone can sing along to and that pretty much rules out most of what he likes.

Or he simply likes that song. What would I know? 😁

You only realise the value of a good ruckman when you haven't got one

There are many ways to create scoring opportunities but taking one aspect out (taps to advantage with clean possession forward) is not one that clubs can do without ongoing.  Certainly not if a club is a true contender

So it's not so much being prepared to try and shark the opposition taps (that's quite do-able) it's the advantage that a good ruckman can bring with taps to advantage

But the main reason the Pies lost last night was the Lions all over the ground pressure.  The Pies couldn't deal with it

Under pressure the Pies turned the ball over.  The Lions had the game won early in the 3rd quarter and played very well in the process

Very little was surer than Collingwood losing a game despite the AFL media's "how do you beat them?" rhetoric, than the AFL media asking if they've been "worked out" now that they've lost.

Brisbane applied great pressure and Collingwood wilted. It was also at the Gabba where Brisbane is on a streak of something like 39-7 over the last 4 years.

Collingwood can be exposed with the way they press their defence up the ground, but it requires strong pressure and strength at contest to avoid them playing in their front half.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
