Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agree with most of your post here Deanox and particularly this last bit.

During the Dogs game first round this year, their supporters started booing Lauchie Hunter - to which I yelled back "You didn't want him you idiots" .  On cue, nuffy MFC supporters boo Sauce Baker when he got a possession soon after 🤦‍♂️.

I personally think players that leave for big money or to play at a more immediately successful club such as Tom $cully, Jerremy Howe, James Frawley etc deserve to be booed by supporters of their former clubs.  There's an old notion of disloyalty, greed, selfishness about that, which shouldn't go unrewarded and unrecognised.  However personally I'm a bit more neutral towards players that have given good service and/or just genuinely want to return to their home state like Jeff Farmer, Jessie Hogan, Scott Thomson and Jacko.

I think you're a bit tough on James Frawley. Played 8 seasons and 139 games for Melbourne and did not get to play a final. He was a great contributor for Melbourne in what were almost universally poor sides. He deserved the opportunity to have success at Hawthorn and I was happy for him that that happened in 2015. I feel the same about Jared Rivers although at least Melbourne were a good side in his early years. Personally I can't understand either all the anamosity towards Jeremy Howe. And players aren't supposed to go to successful clubs. Why not? Would you also also criticise Stan Alves & Greg Wells for leaving the Club?

I get annoyed with this whole disloyalty argument. These guys are professionals who are playing for a limited period of time and their first loyalty should be to their nearest and dearest. We are fans which is an entirely different thing. Supporters are naive if they think players have the same irrational attachment to a Club as we do.

If people want to boo, I guess they will. Not much point calling for rational mature behaviour because there's always going to be a significant part of any crowd that isn't going to be nicely-behaved, regardless of appeals to their (probably non-existent) better natures.

With Freo I only see 3 clubs that I think are worse than them and that's Hawthorn, North and West Coast. Pick 4 will just do nicely.

It's because he raised the middle finger on the way out and took some sly digs at the mighty MFC.

Fierce debate over which draft prospect they like better @ pick 50

Freo also have North's second round AFL compensaltion pick which (I think) comes after North's natural second round pick which is held by Adelaide.

Currently Freo's pick is #23

I think with most sports people tend to leave their better natures outside the door. Granted not everyone do to the same extreme level as some ferals but, we do change if only slightly.

There's a tribalism involved with team sports.

I'm sure he's 'blocked' it from his memory  All the Pies fans claiming a free, didn't realise it was their hero Pendlebury who was to blame for letting Sheed run off him and get the easy 2 on 1.

I don't begrudge Frawley or Howe for leaving anymore. They may have set our defence back a few years, but their absence ultimately shone a massive light on how permeable our defence was, and led us to prioritise the recruitment of May and Lever, and also shift to the strategy to keep teams to 60 points, rather than the all-out-attack strategy, which could beat lowly teams by 50-100 points back in 2018, but failed against better teams.

Take the hysteria from a controversial moment involving the Pies, cut it in half and you get the more realistic picture. It's ridiculous how overblown these things get ala Papley's push on Moore in the prelim last year.

That's definitely the most memorable part of that meatheads career. He's one of those faux tough guys that starts fights against unsuspecting opponents who are vulnerable etc. He's a slug.

I don't boo our ex players like Frawley and Rivers. They left in the late stages of their career to try and find some success before their career was over. Can't begrudge that and I'd have done the same in their shoes.

I did boo Scully though. That was purely based on him lying to Stynes on his death bed etc. That rubbed me the wrong way.

Anyhow back on Freo, it's looking like we'll wind up with pick 6ish IMO. Jefferson, pick 6ish and 24ish for Jackson is a win for us IMO.

On Jacko, you can’t help but think the pressure to Perform will be stunting his development. I reckon he’d be flying with us this year.

Same goes for Sarong.
Just have a feeling that the trading relationship between Freo and Melbourne isn’t a good one. So doubt it’ll happen.

(Catching up with things; great reading, everyone. Thanks!... Anyhoo...)

I stand corrected. I remember now. There was no negativity towards Jeremy Howe from Melbourne supporters before 5/8/22. Just 6.5 years of niceness 😀. Actually we should forgive Howe for purely selfish reasons. He played 100 games for Melbourne if my maths is correct and his son could qualify under current Father/Son rules for either Melbourne or Collingwood.

Fair point. I like to think I'm a reasonably civilised person but I'm definitely not at my best at a Melbourne game. It's laughable. Every game I tell myself that I'm going to behave as I arrive at the MCG and that usually stands till the first arguable umpring decision.

Wasn't Howe essentially playing half-forward flank for us? Certainly a much-improved player once he went to Collingwood. Frawley was 26 when he left at the end of 2014 and he might have made the difference between us making the Finals or not in 2017.

I think you're re-writing history re 2018. Everyone seems to downplay Melbourne's performances due to the horrific Prelim exit. One bad game and that unfortunately was the final one. A bit like last year. A 14-8 record in 2018, and should have been 16-6 or 17-5, percentage of 130%+. Lost 2 Geelong games by under a kick that we shouldn't have. Lost to St Kilda (16th at the time) by 2 points. Our smallest winning margin was 13 points... Basically, we should have finished 2nd, not 5th, and then who knows what could have happened?

I am also very different during a MFC game. I feel very sorry for my missus who has to cope with most of that behaviour. 😅

I have improved but it's still hard for me to control the passion.

Dont be play that game. We were a missed kick after the siren away from a QF in Adelaide against Port. And then who knows what could have happened?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
