Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have to agree to disagree Adonski.

Getting beaten in straight sets on the MCG during September, always meant that changes were necessary.
It hurts to see favourite players go, but The Club has to be hard on itself right now, to improve.
I am now more interested in who comes into the 22 for next year

This is certainly the key

We are supposedly in a premiership window - let's see what the club has planned.

Yes, we panicked and overpaid the guy who doesn’t fit in our structure and had guaranteed currency so are now losing 3 best 25 guys who have far less value. I predicted this at the time.

I’m not sure about overpaying.
The deal put in front of Brayshaw was on the basis of:

A. Them being willing to lose him.

B. Knowing he didn’t want to leave and the talk of him considering his options, nothing but grandstanding.

People talk about entries into the forward line and we let two of our worst disposers of the ball leave.

Perhaps just a coincidence.

Is Gus Brayshaw playing midfield next year? Because, IMO, he hampered us in the midfield in every game except the first one after signing the new deal. He is best suited to the wing. Our success in 21 was due to the selflessness of guys like Brayshaw. If the tail is wagging the dog, things like Harmes leaving start to happen. It was very odd that Brayshaw moved from the HBF to the midfield as soon as he signed on. Was it a condition ? There is chatter that Harmes is after more midfield time. He was pushed out when Brayshaw entered the picture. Sparrow is also loved by the coaches, as we found out at the Bluey. My concern remains that we seem to have lost the selfless approach and guys are disgruntled and looking to cash in as premiership players

Not sure what the benefit is in trading him for a 2nd round pick.

Either Tom Sparrow is going to explode in 2023 or we are looking to bring in someone else.

If his departure allows us to improve the list then I'm all for it.  The club will have a plan.

We'll never forget ''that kick'', but Harmes is expendable.

“That kick” turned history - but maybe he has been given matching orders because he broke team rules - passed across goal to a leading BBB, instead of bombing high into the crowded left FP 🙄

Not that I rate Harmes super highly, but Dunstan in for Harmes doesn't improve us.

If Dunstan, who would be cheaper, can provide the same input and we release the money we pay harmes then its definately an improvement ... same with hunt given we have a number of small defenders that can play his role ... we do have a glut of those types

He makes a lot of sense for Essendon. he's probably behind Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Sparrow, Jordan at least for us in terms of the midfield rotations without a clear second position.

He walks right into the bombers midfield and offers them some serious grunt and 2 way running though, the type of player they do need because they don't really know what defending is the essendon midfield.

I just hope this would be part of an elaborate plan to sign an upgrade winger, part of me worries it's the Lachie Hunter thing

Nah. Dunstan is just a slower and less versatile Harmes, and doesn't fit with our midfield mix at all IMO. Good depth though.

Brayshaw > Harmes + Hunt

Brayshaw is a proven A grader in not one but three field positions. Harmes is barely a proven A grader in one.

B+ mid who doesn’t fit with our best mids
B- wing
B+ half back who isn’t tall enough to be an elite interceptor, isn’t quick or disciplined enough to defend and can’t hit targets, can’t play in the same side as Lever

Could’ve kept Harmes and Hunt to provide the same output mid/wing and half back who compliment in some ways our best players. Then used the currency of Gus to find a long term midfield answer. Instead it could be Lachie Hunter and Joel Smith, yay

Essendon supports saying their 22 would likely get eaten up for points picking up Alywyn davey in the draft, 22 for harmes would be a good get imo

We’ve now got a raft of 3rd rd picks to send back to help them with bid matching.

I’ve been told from someone who knows most of our players pretty well about the interaction between the boys and how certain players are regarded by other players. James IS the heart and soul of this team. So despite some halfwits who may laugh at you, you’re spot on with your comment. 🙂

Agree harmes is better, but its money ball and if you have a glut of depth in any area that isn't fully utilised then you move them on and go get (or retain) another ruck / forward / winger that covers up a bigger hole and that then drives significant improvement

Just to clarify, I was responding originally to SWYL who was suggesting Dunstan come into the team for Harmes role.

This is a different conversation to the dynamics of list management.

The rumour going around is we're the team most keen to sign Lachie Hunter, i'm not a huge fan of this, just hope if it's true the club has done it's due diligence

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
