Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

You laugh at that, but during 2012/13. Me, Redleg, Old, CB, and a couple others would have run a far better club (I would have been the leader).

Glad we have matured past that…

Neeld was poor but Jesus Christ would have struggled with that footy department. The fish absolutely rotted at the head, but I get what you’re saying about that time frame.

I have a fair amount of faith in Goody, Choco, Richo, Yze, Chappy, Lamby, JT, Stafford and co

I guess there was a press conf this morning petracca-100-per-cent-playing-but-forwards-give-goodwin-a-headache

Interesting comments:

Goodwin said the midfielder would play his normal role but admitted the side’s forward woes were causing him some selection headaches as they contemplated including key forward Jacob Van Rooyen on debut or Tom McDonald after he returned from a foot injury in the VFL a fortnight ago.

Goodwin conceded that on reflection Max Gawn should have been given more time in the ruck with Luke Jackson spending more time forward.

GOOD! The only issue is this week Brisbane have no Big O so hopefully he isn't tempted to do it again

Gee who would have thought wonder what he was thinking during the game when Jacko was being thrashed for 3 quarters

And why didn't the box make a change when the game was slipping away...

All for backing our system and our players but there are times when changes in game are requied.

So to the posters who consistently have a go at those who question Goodwin's decisions, here is one example (of many) where he got it wrong. And admitted as much.

Many of his decisions should be questioned, regardless of the fact we won a flag last year.

Brown’s training and moving freely so I can’t imagine we pull the pin on him now, not for a kid. We need T Mc to remove Brown.

If we do JVR for Melksham it gives us the following advantages:

1. Extra height
2. The ability to move Brown to FF and play JVR at CHF,  takes the workload off BBB
3. Less Gawn forward

It comes with the following disadvantages

1. The kid might struggle to get a kick and he’s almost certainly going to struggle to play out 4 quarters of high intensity footy
2. Melksham has been excellent at dragging an interceptor out of the way, as a senior player he nails the set ups and patterns to occupy a defender
3. The Melk has been ok defensively, likely better than a baby tall will be

It’s a lot to weigh up. And I really think Melk has done a fairly reasonable job with a tricky task. He blew all his chances last week but he still had chances. And there’s 10 other things wrong with the side apart from him.

Your sneaky little (of many) doing a lot of work there.

Goodwin’s probably not a super coach, but it’s hardly a super list either.

In particular, trying to solve a scoring/key forward problem without the personnel to do so is always going to take some failed experiments.

By the sounds of it, one of McDonald or JVR is going to play tomorrow IMO. Goody was a little cagey, but very firm that nothing would be announced until later today about those guys.

We asked the same thing sitting in the stands. Gawn rucks first, Jacko interchanges off the bench. Not a forward.

Tmac (unlikely) or van rooyen a must.

Just play JVR ffs

No pressure on the kid if he plays.

1st game as a key forward in a high pressure forward line the way we have moved the ball the majority of the year is a disaster. If we move it as we did against Brisbane he will get some opportunities, but so would Melksham and the rest of the forwards. It's a ball movement issue more than a personal one

It's about ball movement.

And that's a Goodwin imprint.

And when you say it's hardly a "super list", are you referring to the forwards alone?

We are instructed to kick to pockets on slow plays. It's been drilled so far into the players' pyches that they consistently miss hittable options elsewhere.

The shackles need to be released for the rest of this campaign and I don't mean a full team Essendon style offensive attack where we leave our defenders completely vulnerable.

But our players just need to be given the licence to hit other options/spots when going forward from slow plays.

All teams left bar Brisbane know how to trouble our defenders going forward and know how to stifle our forwards when we go forward.

We are not winning it from here without a couple of curveballs.

I don’t think it’s throwing JVR to the wolves …BBB will play, Jackson or Gawn will be “resting” forward.  JVR will be third tall against a side we should dispose of.  If 2022 is the time, it’s this game, not a prelim.

Usually by now you'd hear whispers of potential debutant like the Brisbane one last week. Looks like it won't be the same for JVR.

Shame.

Given it is a final not out of the realm of possibility they keep their cards closer to their chest.

However probably more likely the JVR mystery is mainly designed to put a rocket up BBB

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
