Absolutely rotten luck for JJ.

Just rotten luck. His contributions over the past 2 seasons deserve a medallion. It's for cases like this that I think medallions should be considered for players that don't make the granny, say for those that played 15 or more games over the course of the year

I guess he did get one last year as an unused sub.

Not really the same though.

Pretty lucky that he bagged one last year, despite not playing in the Grand Final

Who played the defensive wing against the Lions?

Harmes played majority wing I think?

Yeah Harmes, worked a treat too.

Didn't realise he got one.

So you can get one without actually playing in the granny. In this instance i'm not against it

Wouldn't be totally shocked if we defaulted back to last years set up with Brayshaw on the wing

Heartbreak for JJ. Salem in, Jordon out. Shuffle the magnets to make it happen?

Thanks for the advice champ I'll take it on board.

Absolutely ridiculous that you can get a medal for not playing in a GF. I just don’t understand it. If you pay 24 games and not the GF and you don’t get a medal

Everyone saying out JJ in Salem and “reshuffle the magnets”… didn’t JJ play as sub last game?

Yes. So the magnets can just sit there.

So Bowey the sub?

Or Bedford with his experience as coming on as a sub?

Bedford makes more sense as a sub than bowey.

As you note, he's been a sub multiple times, which can only help as it must be tricky to be in the right headspace when you don't know when, or even if, you might come on.

And the fact he has the experience of coming on as sub and performing well is important too.

But the key factor is Toby is more versatile in terms of the positions he could cover. He has experience playing as a small forward, as a nibbler style half forward and also as a mid (his main role at Casey).

Whereas i think i'm right in saying Bowey has only played at HB in the ones and at Casey.

He started on Zach Bailey to many of us suprisiing but as the game wore on it seemed as though Goody decided to match his gun midfielder , Gus,  toe to toe with Neale, forcing Neale to be accountable - which he wasn't at times - and Harmes did a great connecting job on his wing and controlled Bailey.

One of the better coaching signs from Goody i thought.

Smith would be my choice of sub

If we lose a small to medium we can cover but the loss of a tall upsets the balance.

Dunstan is another possibility

Really?

I would thought the guy with finals experience, premiership player and all around better player made more sense..

Bedford as a sub makes zero sense imo. Whilst you say he's played a little bit of mid at Casey, he has not once been used in that position at AFL and nor will he be given an opportunity especially pressure cooker of finals.

And as for having experience of coming on as a sub. Well he's started off as sub in 12 games this and has only ever come on mid way in only 2 games. Would you say that's actually experience enough?

Between the two, Bowey offers more versatility as he was an elite junior prospect playing as a midfield/half forward.  Not that they will use him in that position anyway if he was to be a sub and come on.

3 players stick out for me as sub options and they are Adam Tomlinson, Joel Smith and Luke Dunstan.

Joel Smith makes the most sense from a versatility point of view as the sub, because if we lose a tall we are stuffed, particularly if we lose a defender.

But there is no doubt that Dunstan, Bowey, Chandler and Bedford are in much better form, have been pushing their case at Casey and deserve a chance.

Bowey is arguably a best 22 player anyway, so he will most likely be the sub, especially if we are worried that Salem is not 100%

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
