Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Brodie Grundy

Obviously the Clarry news has put this in teh background, but i see the Grund situation as being similar as the Oliver albeit that instead of behavioural issues there has been management/expectation issues.

I wonder if it is possible for Goody or the club to put their arms around Brodie and say if we can't find you a home you'll play and shre the No.1 ruck spot with Max (but one or the other won't play every game).

Interesting times.

If teh realationship is dead though i doubt we will play hardball and i can see the above article being correct.

Isn't JJ going to the Swans along with Grunds also?

I think pick 23 is a fair trade.

JJ costs them nothing...ia a FA

Swans will have to package some picks  ( in effect )  for the Bun.

I suspect some exchanging of picks...    but whatever we end up with will more than likely get used as currency in other pic exchanges etc.

We'll be pragmatic...but we'll get more than the 43 some suppose

I would give it one more season, no good back up rucks out there atm, give both boys a full preseason working in the forward half... dunno why we would quit after 15 games or so

Yeh i agree, Lever and May both took a season (called failures by a lot of Demonlanders) or two before they settled in.

The biggest issue with the combo has been that they both can't play forward or have had litle effect going forward. Would we play only one at a time and can one (for example Max) be played exclusively as a forward in throughout the seaon?

Would another offseason help the duo or have the cards already been stamped?

The biggest mistake..imho.. has been trying to get them to be kpf..  dumb as doggy doo if you ask me.  Both...esp Max capable of floating across half back or esp half forward as the link from the rebounds.

I really dont get why we do this ..either can then pass ( not hail mary lob ) to a REAL  forward on lead etc.

Its footy 101...   baffles me.

Anyway...he's off...  so be it.

Don't forget that McQualter could do things a little bit differently including Grundy. I would be interested in his ideas.

I have a theory that picks in the early 20s are going to be very useful this draft given the number of 'type' selections available from about 20 to 30, so personally I'd be pretty happy with a pick swap moving our current 33 to Sydney's current 23. Maybe throw in one of their picks in the 40s.

If you compare this draft to an imaginary draft that is perfectly incremental in what is available as you go down the order, I'd say the sweet spots for value are the 4-8 range and the 18-25 range. (counting before concessions go in).

We didn’t play him ahead of Schache. In a final.

Schache.

Got to be too much water that has now flowed under that bridge. The bridge is  now gone.

Time to move on. If we get a pick in the 20s - great. 30s - sigh. 40s - Argh. 50s - ok, Brodie, you’re sticking around…

I think we need to get another club interested to get a higher premium from the Swans.

How bout Geelong maybe we can rock tease them a bit to get a bit of talk around Grunds.

Swans are the biggest bunch of vultures who prey on the misfortune of players from other clubs and want players for unders everytime.

Absolute Scrooge's.

Just another possible issue - was Brundy fully fit to play finals?  Injury and tank included?

I would love to see him at least one more year in the R&B - Max just cannot go around solo for another year.

IMVHO the combination just wasn't worked at smartly enough by the coaching panel - new faces as mentioned above McQualter could bring a fresh view on how it may work.

I guess if we grab someone who can make a go of support ruck ?Chol, things may be different.

I am still hopeful of 11 for Grundy and spices.

We should know fairly early next week.

I would imagine the deal has already been agreed and it will be put through early, to allow concentration by both clubs on other deals.

Totally agree. Hes only been with us 5 minutes and we're already showing him the door. It takes time to settle in to a new club especially one thats in the premiership window with lots of expectations on players.

If Swans play hardball then F...off.

We'll keep BG and Swans can start 2024 with no established ruckman and a mangled Cam Mills. Season cooked. Who cares.!!!!!

We want an early 2nd rounder for Grundy according to foxsports. Can we get 23 off the swans? Could help land us pick 10

23 is a steal. The Swannettes have no Ruckmen

I will be disappointed if this deal is done quickly.

They treated him like [censored] why would he stay for  more of the same?

I am waiting to hear his story when  he wins a flag  with the Swans or maybe what May says about him next year

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
