Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jeepers you're swing like the breeze mate. So reactionary.

Mate our list management process so far hasn't exactly filled many supporters with great confidence so far.

Everything Tim Lamb stated at the start of trade period has gone the complete opposite.

So apologies if many are confused by the direction all of a sudden.

Still 2 days to go and still confidence we'll add some experienced depth so far. I would hope.

I don't get all the anger directed to Tim Lamb. Doesn't it make sense that he sets the targets high initially? It's the exact perfect strategy.

He's not going to come out and say "Yeah mate, we want a Camry for this" and have no room to negotiate when offered a Camira. You say "We want a Ferrari and nothing else" and then negotiate to the Camry you were really after.

To do anything else would be silly.

I just think to be hyperventilating over this stuff before we can see the sum of all parts is just needlessly working yourself up.

Quite happy to join some of that commentary once the trade and draft periods are over (if our list remains as it stands currently), but earlier than that is premature. And it's rarely good to be premature.

Even further, we may not know the true outcome until the end of next years draft period.

Agreed. But I'll be happy to say it's risky if at the end of this year's trade and draft period, we only have Gawn and Grundy as a ruckmen.

Otherwise, yes, I'll probably reserve judgement until next year

Collingwood saying they are prepared to keep Grundy is a classic, but wholly transparent, negotiating ploy.

They can see we just traded Jackson. They perceive we're more desperate to get Grundy. They know we now have pick 13. So they try to scare us into upping our bid.

But does anyone actually think they will keep him? They've treated him like dirt. They've just signed McStay to a reported $600k salary. They've brought in Bobby Hill. They want Tom Mitchell and his contract. And they are digging their heels in on Ollie Henry too.

Does anyone think they will risk retaining Henry or getting Mitchell, and/or re-signing whoever is out of contract next year, just to retain a ruck they have made clear for months they want to move on from?

Tim Lamb. Hold the ground. Show us you backup the words. Do not blink in this negotiation.
It’s pick 27 or nothing.

They are not keeping $1m per year for 5 years in their salary cap. They have just re signed Jordy, plus brought others in.

He is ours for 27, end of story.

Collingwood are threatening to hang on to Brodie Grundy after Melbourne refused a proposal to swap first round picks as part of the deal for the ruckman, which came on a busy day of trades which saw the Demons finally complete a three-club deal to get Luke Jackson to Fremantle.

Melbourne have refused to offer more than pick 27 for the two-time All-Australian ruckman, who is contracted to Collingwood for five more years on big money. Collingwood have offered to pay some of Grundy’s contract at Melbourne.

Collingwood had said at the outset of trade talks they wanted a draft pick inside 25 for Grundy. In early trades Melbourne secured pick 27, a selection Collingwood said is insufficient on its own to do the Grundy deal.

On Monday Melbourne received pick 13 as part of the exchange that saw Jackson finally land at Fremantle. Collingwood have proposed trading Grundy and pick 16 to Melbourne for the Demons’ picks 13 and 27. Melbourne has rejected this.

Collingwood could alternatively seek to revise down slightly the amount of money they contribute to Grundy’s salary in exchange for accepting the slightly later pick. The club has also said they are prepared to keep the ruckman and abandon the trade.

[censored] them. Don't budge on the picks (27 is more than enough) and don't budge on the salary (this is really what they want I reckon). We can do without Grundy, they can't do with his salary on the books.

Again, this posturing for their fans, so it appears they didn't lie down straight away and say thank you daddy.

Missed all of todays news, but a quick browse of reddit suggests that there is a rumour that 5 benches are coming next year and that is why Collingwood want to keep him now? Has there Been a discussion on this?

yeah, it's been rumoured for half a year

the filth don't want to keep him; i very much doubt they could afford to do so

it's all posturing

Bit confused by all of this really - they bring in the injury sub, limit the rotations, want players fatigued, get the game looking pretty decent as an overall product with the stand rule and 666, but now they may add a change that could alter everything they've done in the past 5 years?  Just let both teams use their sub either any time, or if one team uses it. And then there's no need for a 5th player on the bench.

But yeah, smells like posturing of course - it's been a stalemate all week, nothing has changed - we should've let Collingwood pressure Freo for that Nth 2nd round pick, maybe they'd be better than us at getting their way.

I hate how Geelong gave up less for pick 25 than what we gave up for 27.

This isn't the case.

We gave up 33, 43 and 53 for 27

Points system is [censored] but essentially we gave 1174 in points and received 703 points. The alleged value of those extra picks to port equals pick 38.

Geelong gave up 38, 48 and 55 as well as a F2 and F4 which, if they are premiers again, would be 36 and 72.

36, 38, 48, 55, 72 = 1495 points while receiving 756 points. The alleged value of those extra picks to Brisbane here is pick 26 and will only increase in value for every drop on ladder position Geelong has.

We are a club known to bend in trade periods.

We are a club known to get what it wants done, and not sweat small distractions like what ‘value’ we are supposed to get on individual deals.

Like the flag winning defence that ‘we paid too much for’…

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
