Petracca’s goalkicking

I don’t think Choco’s methods are working for Tracc.

Our players start with a steady walk in and keep very straight lines. Good technique for most players.

But you can see Tracc desperately nervous on the walk in, spinning the ball around, panicked look on his face.

The straight lines doesn’t work for him either. He needs to arc out to let his leg swing through.

I’d have him either on a very short walk up or (the rarely used) purposeful run up followed by a swing out as he kicks.

He also needs a left foot snap in general play. So many of his misses are desperate checksides that have little to no hope. Most of the games most powerful forward mids have a decent left foot snap - Dusty, De Goey, Stringer. I don’t care if he goes 0.20 on left foot snaps inside 30 he needs to try them.

Why stop at his goal kicking, his kicking in general is not up to the standard of what someone on his coin should be. I don't buy the mental thing, kicking should just be a natural instinct and skill set of any half decent footballer

Once clarry is back we should play Trac at full forward.
BUT we must clear out the forward 50 for him and let him win the game off his boot….even if he kicks 5.10

He’s a great mark, knows where to lead and will have the third oppo defender if brown and JVR play in the same team

I think you are close,

need to change something cos it is not working,

oliver back in the centre,

tracca to the forward line

jj perhaps into the centre to cover tracc leaving, we have a few who can play here.

Viney and Gawn to rest forward not off the ground.

Keeps  our valuable dangerous players rested but contributing all game time.

5.15 and a two point loss  we are back to the field.

Agree. I’ve never seen a player kick so many grubbers in my life.

GWS have a great example of an inside bull that can kick, in Tom Green. He’s a gun.

Trac's the key offender in this department but how many of our players miss snaps from close range (the in play ones rather than set shots)

Any of Trac, Sparrow, Fritta and ANB couldn't nail a snap under pressure. The Sparrow one was from about 8 metres out. Kick of any these and we're singing the song last night.

And Melksham failing to convert his elementary set shot snap on the boundary was infuriating, a shot that he'd usually eat for breakfast.

That slow motion replay on the weekend after his worse set shot miss, really summed up the issues for him. The ball drop was just so high. He's such a powerful player with terrific strength in his legs/core. I don't understand why he needs to lean back and drop the ball so high to get the power through the ball. The combination is the worst for accuracy as it makes it so hard for the leg to follow through straight.

I would love to see him at least within 20/40 metres to do as Bayley does and kick a lower ball almost as a pass to someone in the 8th row. Still follow through but guide the ball more instead of blasting.

Choco's methods might be good for some aspects of general kicking but outside of that the set shot methods are looking like a bust for most players bar Roohey, BB & Fritta who seemed to have had their own routines well and trully imbedded already prior to Choco's tuition classes kicking in.

Can we get a renowned KF who was a gun at set shot goal kicking down there pronto pls.

Maybe Lloyd?  Someone with pedigree who can show those who are butchering the ball a better way.

Many are their own (and our) worst enemy since about Rnd 10 in this regard.

The massive inside 50 count y'day for such a shocking return is a complete team & coach killer.

Let it fester and it will become one of the key issues that killed off our chances in 2023.

And FCS bring Roohey straight back in.  Our most accurate set shot kick!

My simple rules

1- keep his head down over the ball (he’s lifting it too much too early )

2- he drops it too high and too much room between drop and connection.  It’s an over accentuated style. He must keep his right hand on the footy for longer

3- Fear of what? Missing a goal. Ffs. Mental demons.  We all face adversity in life. Practice practice practice.

Tracc's problem since day one is his ball drop. Too high, and too inconsistent. Needs to drop the ball from knee height not hip height. Also leans back far too much.

I recall he recently said he was working on it but as yet, not quite finding the solutions.

Trac is an elite player in every aspect except for kicking goals. He doesn't look comfortable with set shots and when kicking on the run he kicks like he's trying to retain the ball in our F50 rather than kick for goal.

A theory I have is that our players in general are being coached to gain territory and retain the ball in our forward 50 to the extent that hitting up targets and finishing is suffering. We have enough talent in our forward half to score heavily but for whatever reason are making a difficult time of it.

Trac is a very, very good player BUT not a great one just yet. He needs to take control and win a game or two off his own boot and that means his kicking efficiency must improve around the ground and also snag a few sausage rolls. When this happens and I hope so soon for all our sake then I will say he is an elite/great player. Until then ?

The frustrating thing is that he can nail them from afar - the first goal of the 2021 GF shows what he is capable of.

Is his leg NQR or is it in his mind?

Tracc - you can do it and you have done it - do it again!!

As mentioned in my last reply - he has been an elite player - late 2021 - so he has it there.

Well it's real and Trac wears his heart on his sleeve.  He needs some mental help and a new coach to help him. He's such a genuine person you can see him suffering when he misses. He deserves to be free of his goalkicking demons and let's hope he dies ASAP.

Our gamestyle is NQR at the moment but our goalkicking is doing it a massive disservice. Despite all our grievances with ball movement and forward structure, we are still generating a swag of scoring opportunities in these games and simply not converting. When we get to the level of inaccuracy that we’ve seen in the past month is a new and tweaked gameplan going to change this all that much? Sure some of our shots have been from tough positions, not all of them and not over a month of football. There is a critical mass of data and unfortunately in a two-team sport you don’t get the luxury of taking all your shots 30m out directly in front.

Ball movement and forward structure would help but I can’t help but think if we’d nailed some more shots at goal and picked up 2 extra wins we wouldn’t be putting it under the magnifying glass as much.

21 is now 2 years ago DeeS and yes he played a great game in the GF along with a few others. I'm talking of late, like now. Stop living in the past. We have a unique opportunity to win a couple more flags and Trac needs to get back to that form which even then he was a very good player but IMO was and is not elite then or now, yet.

The fact that Trac has been allowed to kick the way he does is amazing.. no guiding the ball, he drops it 3ft above his foot and more often than not it is lucky to touch his foot and not his knee.

Don’t love the public pile on happening with Trac. Yes he’s been inaccurate shooting at goal, but he’s still having a great year and would be leading our BnF. He’s sitting top 5 in the league for the coaches votes and Is contention to win the Brownlow. He’s a gun. Not perfect, but no player is.

The public pile on is clearly effecting him too as he’s responded to Instagram posts targeting his output. Can’t be good for his confidence and mental health and turning round his accuracy woes.

Watch Kane Cornes and other media hypnotics turn around now and defend him and say it’s not good the media are piling on…. after laying the boots in themselves initially.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
