Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

He's good value i reckon.

Knows his stuff, particularly drawing and trading related.

He and Kane corner do a 20 min show on afl.com called the round so far, which I really like. Both are good actually.

Will make for interesting viewing this week,  as cornes will mo doubt have strong views on the Port game.

Yes, both the AFL's The Round So Far and Access All Areas I think are excellent shows with good analysis. Access All Areas is good despite having Damien Barrett on it who is execrable usually. Since Melbourne started winning last year I've been regularly watching Channel 9's Footy Classified & (very occasionally) the Sunday Footy Show. The latter is absolute trash IMV and manages to cram about 10 minutes of analysis into about 90 minutes of crap. Footy Classified is OK even with Eddie on Wednesdays but again too much filler with not enough concise analysis.

Not a game I'll ever watch again and on the season highlights package, just say we played PA in rd 4 and skip it.

But we won without really trying.  And know we know how it feels when I team shuts up shop for attacking with a qtr to go but still easily win.

Binman I rely on that show so much at the moment! Gives you a real good recap in bite size format.

But yeah really like Riley's stuff. Pretty much anyone from the AFL exchange podcast I enjoy actually. Still can't believe he lopped off his beautiful hair though 😛

But we didn't do that then, completely different approach as the opportunity were very different.

Oh yes we did.
Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Lever and May on the bench.

Just adding our game review from last night - expect a little blowback from the comments about Pickett ducking into the tackle, but you gotta call what you see... and it is more in relation to the plethora of players employing this tactic. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Thanks for that article mongrel, you have provided me with my favourite quote of the week:

I guess everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face by the Demons, right?

After 50 plus years as a Demons supporter, even remembering our 2021flag, you should enjoy every win!!

10 goals to one with not long to go, mildly annoying seeing Power kick last 3! How many times have you seen our Demons go to Adelaide and never look like losing, and win by 32 points easing down the straight!

Great to see Maxy back to his best, Langdon & Jordan running on the wings, the Jordan smother/touch, and May rock solid.

playing measured footy at 4-0 what a terrific start to the season. Yes, we will have to lift a cog or two for big games and finals, but putting ourselves in a perfect position early in the season for a top four and hopefully to 2 finish. We know we can lift and have those extra gears, it’s up to other teams to try catch and pass us.

Our team defence is elite!

Looking like another season to enjoy a lot of wins and finals!!

Go Demons!!

Conversely we have a 5 week run later in the year with games away from the G - Crows in Adelaide, Cats in Geelong, Port in Alice, Dogs at Docklands, Freo in Perth in consecutive weeks.

Yep, much harder post-bye.

Percentage is nice but our pre-bye focus needs to be banking the 4 points, playing our way, and staying healthy. It gets very hard post-bye, and we don't yet know how many six-day breaks we'll have either.

Without sounding like a Weid apologist (thought he very average last night), our entries last night were as bad as I've seen in a long time. It didn't help Sam, and I'm not convinced BB would've gone much better.

I'd still be dropping Sam for BB tho

I understand what you say about Weid but I am convinced Brown would have gone better. He straightens us up and doesn't seem to get in TMac/Fritsch's way as much as Weid does. Which in turn would, I think, have opened up more opportunities (i.e. it wouldn't just have been a case of Brown being on the end of the same inside 50s we saw last night).

Interesting run in the fixture coming up.

9 games to go before the bye. Of those, only two aren't at the MCG, and those are West Coast in Perth and North at Marvel.

The MCG games are GWS, Richmond, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Fremantle, Sydney and Collingwood.

IMO the only true premiership and top 4 contender in that slate is Sydney (the others IMO are Brisbane, Geelong, Carlton and the Dogs).

Doesn't mean we're going to win the rest, in fact on 2021 form you'd expect us to drop one of the games to the mid-table sides coming up.

On the flip side we have 5 straight games away from the MCG after round 15 with only one of them being in town (Dogs at Marvel).

A very uneven spread  this year in terms of playing our home games at the G.

I also watch Sunday Footy Show but with delay and in this format:

- Watch match recap, fast forward interview unless MFC figure, watch Volcano, watch match recap, fast forward interview, watch quiz (for a little laugh), fast forward other stupid segment, watch Lloydy's deep dive, fast forward most of the rest of the show. Done in 45 mins.

Started out well in control I thought, game was completely on our terms and while Port were bringing intent I couldn't help but feel we were letting them get pressure on our ball carriers with average execution. In other words I didn't feel like Port were really taking the game to us and threatening to cause the upset, they were more just treading water with actions you need to be doing at AFL football level to stay in a game like this. I did feel for Port slightly with their large number of outs, but then I also didn't. Gray, Fantasia, Duursma, Dixon I feel like most of these guys are injured all the time anyway.

Tom Mcdonald looked a lot more sure of himself and pulled in some good marks. Unfortunately Weid couldn't keep it up this week and looks like the one to make way for Brown.

Thought James Jordan was super consistent during the game even through our lulls, solid attack on the footy. The running machine Langdon just keeps showing his importance to the side. One thing I find incredible right now: We used to throw Angus Brayshaw to Half back often and it never quite worked out, he was seen as a guy who just had to be in the middle to get the best out of him. After working his tail off to perfect his role on the wing last year I find it a little ironic that he has now gone to the back flank but now taken to it like a duck to water. That just shows you the confidence and selflessness of this team right now.

It was tough and dour, at times it looked like they were playing with a flat footy. But we got it done and at this point that is what matters. It's encouraging to see that if Clarry and Trac are down we can still come up with the biscuits.

Enjoy it for what it is, let's kick back and watch the AFLW Grand final and hopefully get Daisy a medal!

That game left me exhausted and even though it was really hard to watch we were never in doubt at any stage. It appeared that the coaches were trying a few things out last night which was a bit frustrating and our forward entries were really shizenhousen. Still to keep them to one goal for 3 quarters was pretty unusual.

Sparrow is a bit of a myth. Had his Weid-esque finals campaign where he was great but not really convinced he's very good.

Far different to Weid, in that he is good. A very solid role player.

But I said over summer and got hammered for it that those expecting his finals form to result in a breakout will likely be disappointed. He has plenty of potential improvement but the work on his disposal, contested ball and uncontested possessions is all going to take time. Plus he’ll keep being asked and doing a lot of dirty work and defensive running, he’s not going to be put in positions to dominate.

Sparrow, like all young players will have form fluctuations but I think he brings a lot to the side and is firmly entrenched in the best 22. Choco  needs to help his kicking into the forward line but he is a good set shot. I reckon he will be a 200 gamer

Hmmm.....Charlie was hunting the football and bent down to pick it up, saw his opponent was in a poor position and stayed low, got tackled high by Burton (who didn't even attempt to get lower with his tackle)

Not sure that counts as ducking

Spargs is a master at not really looking staged at it. Kossie is dramatic snd this one reminded me of the 3rd quarter one in the GF which the umpires ignored also.

It's going to be about a 1 in 3 especially in front if goals if you lower your head ( ie duck) so is it worth continuing to try or use it?

Maybe  change name to Sellwood  Kossie and Charlie keep using it strategically.

Port Adelaide Football Club have announced a new phone number for angry supporters to vent their frustration as the switchboard at club headquarters is being overloaded with calls from disgruntled fans.

The new number is 1800101010.

That's 1800 won nothing won nothing won nothing.

Agree CF definitely best 22 I have now heard Yze and Mark Williams talk up Sparrow and Jimmy Jordon. They are still kids but made of the right stuff.!!

Well, that was enjoyable. Another W and 4 points in the premiership bank, I will take that every week of the H&A season.

My take-a-ways from that game....

- Max, BOG and really stepped up after his performances in the first 3 rounds of the season

- While Petracca and Oliver were quiet, Viney, Langdon and Brayshaw were excellent.

- The coordination between Max and Luke is very good in the way they cover the ground in attack and defence while they are both on the ground.

- Jordon on the wing worked well and his development in that position may allow Brayshaw more time on the ball.

- Brayshaw operating out of the HB line, and operating with great effect, is a great move but may be temporary until the defensive wounded troops are back. Jordon on the wing, and Brayshaw to take Sparrow's spot may be on the cards. Having him rotating through the mids would be a great addition and he has the quality and experience to run the wing or slot into the defence. Agree with Pert, he is a superstar.

- The setup of our defence and the evolving structures are the best I have seen. They just did not allow Port a way forward and forced them to play on our terms.

- one thing that we look to be better at then just about all the other teams is our reaction time to turnovers, both in attack and defence.

I am interested to see the selection for the Casey game to see who is back and how they go.

I think that is what people are missing from this game when they complain about us not thrashing them by 10+ goals.

A bit like Essendon last week, we were forced to play on their terms. And unfortunately for those watching, those terms were based around playing a mind numbing unconstested possession game.

That game style was an admission by Port that they knew they couldn't take us on in general play, and that their only path to victory was to make it a low scoring game where they might have been able to sneak a few goals and keep the score close.

That in of itself is a testament to us. So yes, while we could have (perhaps should have) had cleaner entry into our forward 50 and scored a few more goals, we were never going to score a tonne with Port playing that style of game.

And the fact is, we didn't need to.

Spot on.

Eventually we are going to come up against an team that reckons they’ll be able to go head to head with us, rather than go in to damage control from the first bounce. That’s when we deal out the first major belting.

I’m sure we are all in furious agreement that we hope it’s Hawthorn in round 7. Hopefully they keep winning a few and have their tails up.

Nailef the key issue TU. Look at the games where bbb plays. So much clrar air for him and fritsch and even tmac.

Weid clogs the centre

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
