If we were to cull now who would we cull? I think we will do the minimum culling and that would be 3. My picks to be culled at the end of the year would be Melksham, Baker and Rosman. Thoughts?

Maybe just maybe we are raising this subject a tad early in the Season but the way I see it is that the word "cull" will not be the prime motivation for space on the list at the seasons end rather than retirements in Melks, Hibbo, Daw and maybe a "cull" on Rosman. That's it folks !!!!

We have 4 players over 30 who are realistically likely to retire at the end of the year.

Probably the only players who wouldn't be 100% secure on the list would be Hunt and Smith.

Weideman seems forever stuck on the edge of being a good forward, but I'd expect we would persevere with him given that Brown & McDonald are both 29, and our other back-up forwards are actually older!

The players in danger of being delisted at the end of the year would likely be MBrown, JMelksham, MHibberd,

Basically anyone with an Essendon connection

Weid has a two year deal as well, so doubt he is going anywhere unless we trade him.

Crazy to consider this thread when you see what's going on with West Coast at the moment.

There’s a full season to play yet. Way too early to be speculating on who leaves

Indeed. Now West Coast are not high on my faves list nor could I imagine extending them sympathy but the current situation is pretty inequitable.  Simpson has not moaned about it.

Given this could happen to any club depth this year is very important.

Let's start with this thread

Or twist the thread around to who or what skill set do we need.

Like

A lock down small defender

A tall defender who can leap

A next gen ruck

A big body mid

People seem to be missing the point of this thread (unless I'm missing the mark here)

We are undoubtedly going to face salary cap issues in the coming years. This will need to be managed really well by the club

In addition to the obvious ones already mentioned, I would consider moving hunt along while he has value. He's too inconsistent for mine. Handy depth yes, but he's hardly a critical piece.

Posting this 2 rounds in with Casey playing 1 match suggests the only cull should be  WERRIDEE.

Hope you are not including our Premiership winning coach. 😱

The word is delist but at this stage no players have had their position stamped but maybe there will be trades for some fringe players?

Imagine this thread about 13 months ago. Top of the list for some people might have been S Goodwin.

In other words, this is way too early.

Edit: Too early to be able to make the call; not too early from a respect point of view (although, there is that, too)

going on the basis of an 8 player turnover per season average comp wide i'd suggest - purely for the exercise and it will be interesting to reflect if my power rankings change by seasons end

  • Oskar Baker (del.)
  • Mitch Brown (ret.)
  • Michael Hibberd (ret.)
  • Jayden Hunt (RFA)
  • Jake Melksham (ret.)
  • Fraser Rosman (del.)
  • Sam Weideman (trd.)

I think it's out of Essendon or Hawthorn. Then a Tassie team could come in.

You must be younger than me. Anyone who grew up following football in the late 60s and 70s would have Collingwood as first cab off the rank.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
