Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Imagine how much the narrative has swayed. We went from Jackson staying, to Jackson going, to Brayshaw staying, to Brayshaw going, to Brayshaw ACTUALLY staying, and now suddenly the media is hinting that Jackson could still stay...

We should have learnt after the Dusty fiasco in 2017. No one really knows outside of the player themselves and almost always, anything in the media is mostly planted news tidbits to fuel the negotiation.

In fairness, that narrative was moulded by collective hand wringing on here by some of the more ‘susceptible’ posters…

Essentially, the inmates started a panic, got bloodied, and then sat back after and complained about how easy it was for them to panic and more should have been done to stop themselves from panicking.

In 5 years is Luke Jackson a ruckman or a key forward?

In 5 years he is playing consistent football as a forward/Ruck but it took him 4 years to get there. Currently I see him as a burst player with lots of learning to come. Huge ceiling, no guarantees he gets there.

Ruckman.

A potential to be an elite A grade ruckman that is.

His forward craft still needs significant work and it'll come with improvement, but it's his ruckwork that will set him apart.

In my opinion, Jackson will sign a two year deal with the Dees...

Why...? Fremantle don’t have the Picks to land him this year. And Jackson will do right by the Dees and not walk to West Coast in the pre-season draft for nothing...!

If Jackson is going to WA. He is going to West Coast for Pick 2 and there future 1st rounder and possibly a fringe forward or ruck.

If he signs a two year deal with us though is it just a 'pre-contract' for Freo? We'll get to this time next year with a Horne Francis scenario where there's a year to go but he may want out. Obviously a lot can happen in that time though and he might meet a nice young lass or just realise Melb is the pinnacle of the universe.

Freo's 1st, Treacy and Meek - we could do worse ...

But we don't have to.

I would insist on at least their first and if they get the Dog's 10 for Lobbe that one too.

Or they can use theirs, the Lobb pick and Logue pick, to try and get a top 2 pick plus something back to them.

It depends on what JT sees as our target in the draft.

We could get Treacy, Meek and say 14 and 10.

It is going to be an interesting trade period for us.

No decision will be made until our season is over, which I believe a fair few posters have mentioned now. Richo talks about it here (about 5:30 in).

I like that Richardson said that, effectively putting a protective ring around him.

The comment that there won't be an answer until the season is over, suggests to the media: stop asking.   Hopefully, everyone at the club follows that cue.

The circus is not Jackson's doing.  Hopefully, others (his manager, freo people etc) now also 'go to ground' so to speak.

He added that in chats with Jackson the club has said to him don't worry about the contract just play the best you can for the rest of the season, giving him some breathing space.

I'm sue all on here would be happy for this to die down until our season is done and for now just let the kid play (and help us win another premiership).

Pretty much exactly how I would have expected the club to act with him right now.

Exactky what kane Cornes thinks also.

Again this week he said LJ is NOT what Freo needs.

He's  not a forward, has no forward craft, he's a No.1 ruck.  They have Darcy, a 24 year old star, why do they want Luke.?

Yeh I agree, 30-50% game time as a ruck and 30-50% game time as a mid. With Geelong now playing Blicavs on the ball more it will certainly give them something else to think about around the ground and at Centre Clearances if we played Dogga in that role. If he can work on his endurance he'd be pretty formidable around the ground with a higher percentage of game time. There's no reason he couldn't turn into an old fashion ruck rover, he is good below his knees and a tough match up aerially. Rather than focus on his short comings as a ruck it would be better for us to focus on his strengths and what other line ups can't come to terms with. Lets hope he stays.

Some good points being made by @DeeSpencer& @JimmyGadson

about replenishing the list with quality youth whilst we are in the window ... and because Taylor has the midas touch we shouldn't be too concerned about drafting 18yo's when applicable (and draftees don't impact the salary cap in the first 2 years)

But Taylor's history here is that he will use draft picks on established talent as well ... so we've had a good mix of recruits in the last 10 years (talented youth & talented experience)

The question is what are we going to get in return if LJ departs?  (and I hope he stays)

If we drive a hard bargain we could end up with a decent hand at the draft table ... or, if it came to it, a decent established player or 2 might come our way

I value LJ based on my evaluation on his future as well as the salary it looks like he might command elsewhere

He's a valuable commodity and we need proper compensation in a trade if it goes that way

But again, I'm hoping for a stalemate with LJ staying on for at least 2 more years with us (I'm assuming a decent offer has been put forward for his services)

The 1st time I heard the "unicorn" tag it was used to describe draftee NBA player Kristaps Porzingis. He was drafted no.4 overall as a 7 ft 3 centre, but what made him a unicorn was his ability to shoot 3 pointers. Had a great start to his career, but after 7 seasons he's now at his 3rd club. He's had his share of big scoring games and his share of injuries, but the biggest criticism of him is that he doesn't do what is expected of a big man in the NBA. He's not a good rebounder and doesn't use his size to be a good defender. The "unicorn" tag was all hype.

This brings me to Jackson. His greatest strength as a big man is his ability at ground level. That's why he's tagged as a "unicorn". He's a developing ruckman, and I think he can become an elite tap ruckman, in the Nik Nat mould. If he reaches Nik Nat's standards, that puts him in the elite ruckman status. But as a big, I'd say he's a poor mark even for his age. I thought he took a big step last year with his marking, but has regressed this year.

So how do people project his career, and his impact on the team, regardless of whether he stays or goes. For the next potentially 3-5 years, he'll be playing 2nd fiddle to Max or Darcy.

IMO, he can only earn the "unicorn" tag if he becomes an elite contested mark.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
