Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It just doesn't make any sense to me.  Fremantle have a genuine star ruck in Darcy.  Jackson at 199cm has actually yet to prove he's a competitive ruckman in any more than 5-8 minute bursts.  You have a super talented young list at Freo, paying in effect a second ruck and not particularly effective key forward 10 mill over 7 years is not the sort of call I'd expect from the Freo admin.  Now WCE, that might be a different story!

Darcy is a genuine A grader but he is their Joel Smith in regards to injuries.

Should have taken Tom Green

Yeah nah,  Even if we called his name out GWS were always taking him as an Academy player.

I think they were keener on Jackson, and would have let us take Green. Or so the rumour goes?

Isn’t there a rule that says you can’t trade someone you have just signed?

You mean the short-lived Caracella clause.  I think that's dead.

It seems a redundant rule, given players have to agree to be traded anyway.

It would be a reasonable rule (ie can't trade a player in the first trade period after resigning them) if clubs were allowed to trade contracted players without needing their consent (to balance free agency).

The Sumich rumour of >$10m over 7 years is obviously outside good reason.

Gawn wouldn't even be close to that amount of coin.

Jackson is an excellent footballer with serious energy and he's fun to watch as well, but he's not team-defining.

Oddly, right now the club which probably gets the most value from Jackson would be the Demons. Obviously we need him while Gawn recovers and we also get great value out of him as a contrasting style with Gawn. That lasts for as many years as it does and then Jackson will be a bit more developed and a bit more experienced in ruck, and take over the No1 role. It looks like the perfect career path for a young ruckman, really.

Meanwhile we would clearly be looking to find some big-bodied beast to play forward-ruck in future (or right now if it were possible) and provide another contrasting type of tall.

The way he performs in the next 3 games will give a clearer indication to his likely intentions and whether we remain committed to keeping him or not.

Please explain how it will show his intentions?  I'm guessing you are looking at how well he plays and maybe how enthusiastically he plays (or some similar observable behaviour).  So the cases are:

Well and enthusiastic

Well and not enthusiastic

Poor and enthusiastic

Poor and not enthusiastic.

What can you deduce from any of those outcomes, either of his intentions or the club's? Genuinly interested - not rubbishing your statement.  (I'm assuming the club doesn't show its intentions by leaving him on the bench for 50% of the time and the other 50% at Casey!)

Chol would be handy for us now, helping up forward and in the ruck.

If both stay then something will have to gives sadly. Would be a shame if it's Harmes though, grew up a Melbourne supporter and kept faith by signing a long contract after our 2019 season.

On 6/18/2022 at 5:22 PM, whatwhat say what said:

Wish him all the best; if that’s true there’s no way he can say no and stay at the MFC

Serong and Young and next year’s first rounder...for starters

Pick #3 on paper is worth more than 2 of Freos first rounders likely to be 2 x 14-18. Now LJ on what we have seen is probably more like #2 and almost nudging Rowell out so that makes him worth even more.

I would say Freos 1st round picks in 2022 and 2023 and Lobb for LJ and our 3rd round pick in 2023 if they are offering that sort of coin. They can also cover 30-40 % of Lobbs contract.

Will also mean they will struggle to get Gus onto their list so that’s a bonus.

Harmes has two years on his contract (OOC 2024 when he will be 29) so if he goes it will be because he thinks it is good for him.

Doubt he is on high $ so it might be his best chance to build his financial future especially if a longer contract and extend his career into his 30's.

He has fulfilled every possible football dream.  Drafted to the team he followed, became part of the regular 22 and most of all has a premiership medal.  What a dream come true for a once-upon-a-time, rookie.

Will always be a demon through and through.

Hate seeing one of our players go at any time but would still be happy for Harmes - he has given all he has to the red and blue.

You missed the fact he is only 20, Rising Star winner, premiership player and without his influence we don’t win the flag.  A generational player.
I still think he stays short-term but the longer it goes the more nerve racking it gets.

It really doesn’t make sense and I don’t trust the information.

Exactly. As if the Freo powerbrokers are going to let that slip to Peter Sumich 🤣

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
