Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Luke Jackson

From The Age:

Melbourne is talking with the management of Rising Star winner and premiership big man Luke Jackson with the Demons categorically denying they have had any talks with Fremantle about the WA native.

Jackson is out of contract at the end of season 2022 and Melbourne wants him to extend his stay with the former Australian under-17 basketballer developing faster than many expected culminating in his ruck work in the grand final helping to turn the game to the Demons in the third term.

Demons list manager Tim Lamb shot down any suggestion they had talked with the Dockers about Jackson.

“At no time, has there ever been a conversation internally, or with Fremantle, about Luke Jackson,” Lamb told AFL trade radio.  “I can categorically say that has never occurred.  “He’s out of contract at the end of next season, we’re talking with his manager and happy with where it sits.”

Are we still happy where it sits? Seems like things are going nowhere

Time to p!zz or get off the pot soon

Jackson has been a microcosm of Melbourne's 2022 season so far.

Started the season hot against the Dogs and in parts against the Suns. Just went in wins against Essendon, Port, Richmond etc. Then got COVID along with a number of players and has been flat and uninspiring ever since.

Looking for a massive 4 week block from LJ but I'm not sure he has the age and experience to take the AFL by storm as of yet.

As for trades, if Freo want to do business with us, I'd do a straight swap for Victorian born Hayden Young. Young is an absolute star in the making and I predict will end up having a better career than Jackson. But alas, Young recently re-signed and has settled in nicely.

I agree Hayden Young would be have been a great trade option, but yes re-signed for 5 years recently. His kicking skills are fantastic !

This potential Jackson trade talk has got me thinking. As good as Jackson and Pickett have been and no doubt will be, would we have been better off drafting Hayden Young and Caleb Serong in that 2019 draft. two highly rated VIC kids ( no game home factor).

Currently they are  both looking like young stars of the competition !

Well our 2 helped us win a flag. I can live with that.

If you want to employ hindsight, you could  look at Weid when McKay and Curnow were still available.

Every draft will throw up the “what ifs”.

Freos most realistic offer for LJ would be the 2022 and 2023 first rounders plus Rory Lobb inc 40% of his salary. Most likely being 2 picks in 14-18.

Feels a bit short of the mark. But gives us what we need right now plus time to scout for a new ruck beyond Gawn.

If we can get Lobb as part of the deal it would absolutely soften the blow of losing Jackson and means our windos is still wide open. Lobb is an excellent player and would be a great 1-2 combo with Gawn for a few more years.

No I still don't want to lose Jackson, and I am sure the club is doing everything it can to keep him.

But of course if he wants to go, he is immediately dead to me and I move onto caring only about bettering our list. Lobb will certainly be a good replacement.

Winning flags is the only thing that matters. In: Lobb Out: Jackson is a good net result for 2023/2024 while our window is still wide open.

Edit: Plus 2 draft picks of course. This is not a like for like given age and draft pick investment.

I think that's a fantastic deal in favour of us.

We get a discounted tall forward in career best form and two first rounders to invest in the future.

Nothing short of the mark about that.

I just can’t believe that if Jacko wanted to go home he wouldn’t have told us last year, when he knew we wanted Cerra.

He would have probably known his priority last October/November and surely he would have raised it with us as we might have agreed and done a deal if he was so determined to go home.

It all leads me to think he will re sign, but maybe only for a few years and then reassess.

However, 2 late first round picks and another 30 year old forward/ruckman is not nearly  enough for Jacko.

I agree, and if Jackson wants to go of course we hope he wants to go to West Coast as we will get a better deal.

But if he wants to go to Freo, what options do we really have? I would be pushing hard for picks (which would not be great as Freo will likely finish top 4) AND I would want an established replacement given our window is still wide open.

I mean Darcy would be ideal, but I doubt Freo or Darcy would agree.

Pretty much exactly the way I think about it, in business terms.

I never buy into sound bites of players loving the club or how Gus sounds so happy on the podcast, I buy into signatures on dotted lines and even these days that's proving to be no guarantee of keeping someone long term.

The list is all I care about. Yes I'd have some love for him after what he did for us but no-one is bigger than the club.

Exactly ..I recall on the old Ology getting fair  traction for trading Trac and Spargo..

Locking Dogga in for 5 years makes sense ,he'll be a prime asset if he wants out in 2027 and still good value if he only gets to 75% of his potential before then

It would be nice if he could hold a few more marks though.

I 100% get where you are coming from, but Hogan is a perfect example how potential can be overplayed. Im 50/50 right now about what to do with LJ but probably leaning on wanting to keep him.

If we evaluate LJ based on current performance, then the above is probably overs for him. However its when you factor in growth and potential that it becomes anyones guess as to what is an equitable trade.

Whatever the scenario, we don't really gain from a trade when there are just picks involved. We are in the window right now and we need a like-for-like player. I think Lobb is decent enough and gives us a solid target in the forward line that will be a hard matchup, particularly once we have BBB and TMac in there.

We can then use the picks received to offer other clubs for a younger KPF or goto the draft and develop from scratch. Either scenario.

If Luke Jackson did make the decision to leave the tricky thing is going to be that Fremantle viewing themselves as in the trade window and Peter Bell being notoriously difficult to deal with at the trade table could really make it a long and painful process for the club who would be without Josh Mahoney for the first time for a significant trade like this.

I think both parties would quickly realise the asking price would be 2 first round picks, plus and the plus would be a really significant talking point.

Every time this thread 'kicks off' I get excited.

When Jacko does sign a new contract I hope we start a new thread.  I am tired of looking in here.

Lobb plays one good game against us & now he’s an excellent player?
I’d say he’s had a pretty disappointing career overall

Not a chance we'd be getting more than two first rounders and a Rory Lobb for Jackson. Not a chance.

That sort of currency is reserved for established A graders, not for players with high potential but are still establishing themselves in the league. Luke Jackson is still finding his way in the competition as evidenced by his form this year.

Jeremy Cameron cost Geelong 3 back end first rounders, but received 2 second rounders back from GWS. Cameron is a match winner and will most likely win this year's Coleman if injury free.

I will eat humble pie if Bell happily hands over that bounty for LJ, after the Hogan saga, should the (unfortunate) situation arise where LJ nominates Freo as his club of choice.

I will be even happier if LJ stays right where he is and has a crack at a few more flags

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
