Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TBH, I would have suggested dropping Smith for Hunt this week anyway.
Smith has a lot of fans, but for mine, he is lacking in footy-smarts.

I would be very disappointed in Bowey misses.

Agree on all of the above and will be amazed if not implemented.

Hunt is the same height as Rohan, got him covered for speed and footy IQ

Hunt will run off him if not careful and feed the forwards . Rohan can't leave him alone.

Hunt is also a good contested mark.  Hibbered will really make me nervous.

hibberd    186

hunt         187

rohan       188

I betting Hunt has arms that are 10mm longer than Rohans

he's certainly got longer fingers based on a photo posted here recently

otoh rowan has a good leap when he gets a good run at it

rohan is also a bit of a cameo player who doesn't get a lot of the ball

i think he's a confidence player who doesn't like close attention. hibbo would be just the type to put him off his game

You might be right. But it makes perfect sense that Hibbo replaces Smith who was playing a lockdown role. Hunt is much more a replacement for Bowey from a half back attack role perspective.
I am not sure we can bring Hunt in and cover the defensive role Smith was doing, and Hibbo before him.

I don't think either have the size to match up on any of Geelong's 3 talls like Smith is arguably capable of doing. So we're talking about locking down on Rohan. I think we're lucky in that any of Hunt, Hibberd or Rivers (back-up) can do the job on Rohan. I think Hunt's defensive capabilities are underestimated. He doesn't read the play and zone off his opponent like Lever, Salem and Bowey. He's very much an old fashioned beat your man first and then run off. He very rarely gives his opponent space on the lead. Perfect profile to lockdown on Rohan.

Maybe because it is Geelong they are thinking of Hibberd. If it was Port or dogs then surely Hunt. If Hunt is fit he should be playing but then again maybe as a medi sub. Bowey should not be dropped.

I was wondering who was going to buy 2022.

I hope for Smith's sake it is a better year than 2021. I bought 2021, thinking i was being clever after 2020, and it has been a disaster!

I want a refund from you for 2021.

When all is said and done..very lucky we have an experienced (some would say best 22) defender to come straight in. Smith is unfortunately injury prone and thank goodness he did his hamstring at training and not in the match. Geelong will find it much harder to replace Parfitt as a defensive mid given that they have already had to replace Mark O.Connor. We have to really maximise it in the midfield & we do have the luxury of Max down back .

We can let Cameron do that - in the first minute of the match.
Hunt would be my choice not Hibberd

I'd be going Hunt ahead of Hibbo. Hunt's height isn't an issue. He's not bad above his head and with four Geelong talls likely, having Bowey, Rivers, Salem and Hunt rebounding with our mids, we could sling shot hard against Geelong's talls.

Not only am I concerned Hibbo might be done, he doesn't have the leg speed Hunt does. Hunt has also shown repeatedly he's willing to take the game on even when the rest of his team mates aren't.

Probably not the right time to point out that A TORN HAMSTRING! is an anagram of SMITH...GROAN...RANT!

If this was Letters & Numbers on SBS, I’d be sadly informing you that you’ve used the letter “A” twice when there’s only one available.

EDIT: just noticed the second A… carry on, nothing to see here!

Nothing worse than playing against a bloke with long fingers.

I must admit I"m a bit perplexed as to why we would pick a player who was dropped for poor form over a player who just lost his place due to injury.

IN: Hibberd for Smith & Hunt for Bowey

Interesting that is how the AFL.com site saw it as well. 2 hardened experienced bodies in. Smith has only played 21 games  and Bowey is just starting. It will be interesting to see who gets the medical sub. Also noted in talkback yesterday that Jones not likely to be in finals plans and will fly home after Prelim depending on circumstances

Fritsch on MMM: Hibberd "will* be a great replacement" for Smith.

Goodwin, in presser, regarding "decision with Hunt this week*": it "comes down to what our risk appetite is like."

(*my emphases)

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
