Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Brown gonna be bloody good once he builds into things for a few weeks. His touches were all class. Got out marked a few times but we kicked it over his head a bit, too...

You don't know that.  To me it looked exactly the same as the last couple of games he played for us.  Couldn't time his runs to the drop zone, couldn't get separation due to pace, flailed around a bit with one arm up and failed to bring it to ground as much as he should.  No goals.

Not the worst but really no better than Weideman's average game return, but people will see what they want to see.

So much to talk about...

I knew we were on when a Gawn tap went to Oliver who had a clearance, it was clean and lethal.

Gawn was huge today, his taps were some of the best I have seen this year, and he had a huge amount of work put into him by Hinkley to little effect. And one moment he takes the center bounce and the next he is in the goal square laying a shepherd, figgin awesome, his mobility was huge. Alir, what was Hinkley doing? He gifted us the first half (well our players did a little bit too). Alir had an immediate effect in 2nd half at the start of the 3rd when he went back. Hinkley lost a bit today in my eyes, he had the cattle but not enough of a plan. I disagree with Gerard on first crack Alir needs a spot, he is not a utility, moving him all game reduced his effectiveness.

Viney had a great pressure game, and it is clear some posters here just don't value pressure and their idea of analysis is stats without understanding impact. Pressure in the midfield helps defence. Watch the Port interchange bench just before half time, they looked dead, that was a result of pressure.

ANB (who I think has a great heart, and I can't stand the way he gets sniped on here) only had one effective kick (to Tmac for a goal), but this was his worst game this year and his last three have been average. I wouldn't mind if he had a spell to improve his disposal. I am also curious to see a bit more experimentation with the list as well. Harmes brings less to the table, he is the other option to give a spell, Viney brings more. (This is me arguing for Jake Bowey (-;)

For mine we were kissed on the Richard by the umps early on, was actually pretty reasonable, a few bad calls but nothing near the normal level.

Brown lets others off the leash, and since he kicked 10 last time he played Port, am sure the scars were still there. Playing him was always going to allow us to play our game and make Port a bit reactive. Overall Port looked off the pace, I used to be scared of them, not any more.

Biggest take away, and the best thing though, was last week against GWS, the players were potting each other, their bad team mojo, and not as much work off the ball, very scary to see and it worried me more than the Pies/Crows losses. The way they came back today was huge tick to the coaching staff and the players owning everything. Yet another box ticked that we are the real deal.

Now a late night ahead. Hopefully Ash gets up at Wimbledon to make it an even better night.

Big Tour de France night as well: bunch sprint into Nîmes, will Cavendish equal Eddy Merckx's record of 34 TDF wins?

(Cavendish, now there's a story. Bigger comeback than Tom McDonald.)

Nah, Weid's poor games you literally can't see the bloke for quarters at a time. Brown will always present.

100% agree re JJ's tackling, they're bang on, and I've noticed his handballing is decisive and accurate.  Good long kick on him too.

Jordon is so clean and unhurried. Does the difficult things incredibly well.

All the journos in Adelaide look so plain.

My brother runs the AV at Adelaide Oval and constantly updates me on Michelangelo Rucci's postgame media conference attire, which he describes as 'homeless' but not homeless chic, with actual genuine food stains.

One issue: surely the original intent of the holding-the-man and push-in-the back rules are to prevent interference off the ball when the opponent is still in the contest, rather than to penalise players who tackle someone who drops the ball in the tackle or otherwise drops their knees and gets ridden into the ground?

This drives me spare, May etc, we get burnt by this twice a game with our great tackling and the ball popping out.

Harmes always has been a little fumbley but my read is that he is going to need to become a bit cleaner and more one touch in the next 7 weeks to play anything other than a tagging role.

I don't mind us having 2 negating roles per game in Viney and Harmes, but Harmes just looks a much better player when he's tagging to me, seems to get a bit lost when he's not.

Doesnt BBB just love to play in front.  He is a ripper imo. Like a golfer on a course he knows well, the midfield will learn exactly where you can afford to 'miss' .  Take 5-10 percent off the kick. He will be tough to stop and will continually bring the ball to front and centre.

Ps convinced james jordan is the second coming of a young joel selwood. Head over the ball, gets the high contact frees,  courageous, skillful.  What a debut season so far.

Loved Ben's post game interview. Just a great big bloody grin on his face.

We just looked so much better with him in the team.

Great match winning game by TMAC too. He kicks 'em when others miss.

I was going to bring this play up myself. The way he split that pack and hit Langers on the chest in such little time was for me, one of the highlights of the match. He cant kick 50m to save himself but his vision is outstanding.

He does that regularly as well, probably not last week but most weeks he does the stop, prop in traffic and lasers a pass inside 50.

Also, wtf was Hinkley doing with Aliir? Firstly, he starts his best interceptor on Ben Brown. That's a win for Melbourne as they lose his intercepting. Then he moves Aliir forward...? Mind blowingly poor coaching.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
