We are not playing well. We can’t keep winning like this..

System, baby. We'll keep winning with this system. We strangle sides and absorb pressure like a top team, even when we're not playing well. Sign of a very good team. We're still the best team in the comp. Essendon were playing for a finals spot and they couldn't have played any better and we still beat them.

Essendon played slow footy and pushed players back because they knew in an open contest we would destroy them. Mediocre teams will do that against us because they can’t beat us another way. But good teams won’t play this defensive garbage. The games against Richmond Dogs and Brisbane were just good contested one on one footy. And we won them all.

It was ridiculous. I was at the ground and they booed far more than they cheered.

Half time ground announcer: “Bomber fans cheer your team off”

[censored] Essendon fans: “no we must boo the umpires instead”.

A pathetic bunch.

That Bronx cheer they did in the second or third quarter when they got a free kick as if the count was heavily lopsided was embarrassing for them I thought.

On another note I need to be back at the G. Watching an MCG game on tv doesn't sit right for me personally :)

Great to beat the bombers. Suck it up you druggies

Typical Melbourne win. Defence to the fore.

May superb and BOG. Lever rock solid. Salem back on form. One of Hunts best games.

Trac stood up when we needed him to and kicked those crucial goals

Play of the game. Double 50 leading to jordons goal. Thanks umps.

Forward set-up not working. We’re not getting full value for our dominance. Goal kicking, our perennial problem, will cost us.  If we are to end our wait for a flag we have to get BB fit and firing somehow.

Looking forward to a Saturday afternoon game at the G next weekend

Go Dees

Also the VFL game tomorrow become extremely important. If BB can nab 3 or 4 + he would be a lock for the remainder of the season l would say. We all should watch tomorrow’s telecast to cheer him on.

I will confess I have not seen a 2nd of this game. I was at home but to scared to watch so I checked the scores and very happy with the win.

I have recorded it so I'm thinking may just watch the 2nd half.

But at some stage we will have to put a team to the sword.

2 games clear on top, no injuries good night.

But happy we beat the bummers & wrecked there supporters night

Watch it without the sound as all you can hear is praise for Essendon from the commentators and a constant boo from the [censored] Essendon supporters

Jake Lever absolutely outstanding but our forward line is a worry

Our delivery into the forward 50 was atrocious in the first half. The worst I can recall. It improved in the third, but we couldn't nail our shots.

McDonald, Fritsch and Kozzy were very ordinary though. But had Fritsch and McDonald nailed those shots in the third, this is probably a different conversation.

I haven’t been following the footy for long enough( because I immigrated not because I’m young) so haven’t got the deep hatred of certain teams of fans that normal dees supports have developed. But after tonight the Bombers can go and get stuffed( for want of a stronger word). The dirty cheating shower of cheats. Their fans were awful tonight. How about you cheering on your own team instead of booing the opposition for the whole game.

It makes the games very hard to watch

Like many others, I hate the Bombers with an intensity that is disturbing. There must be a stronger word than hate.

Send then to Manus Island and throw away the key.

SAME! I hate them so much it scares me. They bring out a very dark, menacing side of me the likes of which I never knew I possessed.

Correct. 16 behinds is a disgraceful effort. Forwards who cannot consistently nail goals. Bad kicking is bad football.

On the Umpires, the trend was set on Thursday night with the actual paying of free kicks where and when they deserve paying.
This was carried on for the round so far. Consistency for the rest of the season might have a positive effect if adhered to for the rest of the year.

We need BB in ASAP

Keep him in the side for a month

Let him settle

BB is the next shift for us. Fritta struggled, again, in a lead role. Without BB, he is stifled by a decent defender each week. TMac has a role already and is achieving most of the things we need of him but Fritta, he is not having the clear run that he deserves. BB will assist in that regard, drawing the better defenders, enabling the Fritt to roam about for marks and subsequent shots. Petty could be a part-time solution up forward, as well - and he can kick 'em.

The most important win for the year. We are not playing brilliantly and I honestly thought we were there for the taking tonight.
May and Lever saved us.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
