I'm still trying to find out which days are training days/times.  I rang the club yesterday and reached a 'call forward' number and left a message for a return call.

If anyone has any info on which days/times are training it would be appreciated and I will go along to a few.

I've been doing pre season reports for the past 5 years and it's usually Monday, Wednesday and Friday... starting at 9am but usually the players are out there by 8.45am getting taped, applying sunscreen, warming up.

I think with all training being behind closed doors and at Casey that training reports will be hard to come by.

The opposition will never be able to work out our game plan. Bahahahaa

Between you and Dr D the Club may as well close down. Such negative posts without even commenting upon the new Coaches potential for influence on all players skills etc improvement plus the all important game plan oh and the players Marking time!

"only the young ones " DrD says as if Sparrow Jordan BBB and our stars and potential A and B graders From last year are sitting playing play station in the new gym inside the Magnificent new facilities.

Finding it hard to motivate yourself guys then why not look at it half glass full instead of empty ??

If our stars perform up to 2020 and everyone else in between them and the youngsters goes up 10% plus the younguns take on 20 % natural improvement with our new Coaches I would place us in Finals contention with a bullet if no serious injuries.

Of course there is always the chance of the false dawn again  but I believe when you look for the positives they are fair dinkum screaming at your face in both natural ability and development.

Can't wait to see the new Tommy Mac and even Joel Smith's footy awareness which if improved will add immeasurably to his considerable natural flair. About 25 Players hold our future in their hands and the more they improve the better our stars and match winners will be.

Bring on those silly practice matches and serious match practice at training for us to see the effort and dedication that's going into our season from all in the Footy Department and players.

A day at the G Is just what we all want to saviour With the fruits of the last 6/7 years hard build up come together in a wave of a Team performance That looks switched on and purposeful about it's destiny and journey in 2021.

I'm sorry, not sure how long you've been around demonland but I've got a long history of projecting accurately players careers and their trajectories. I didn't mention sparrow because I believe his 2 handed ball drop and lack of advertised on field pace will limit his potential and Jordan's lack of grit, strength and pace seems to be his downfall. I won't even back over the years and years of history where I have gone against the common views of biased demon supporters (i.e. that every player is a gun as soon as they're drafted) and analysed each player on their merit. When everyone was calling Pickett our next Cyril Rioli, I was the first one questioning as to why he is slipping over at every contest. I could go on for an eternity. I'm not being negative, im being realistic. We've missed finals since 2018 with Gawn, Oliver and, Petracca in the guts and an AA calibre Full back.  That means we either have significant holes all over the ground, or our coaching is completely inept or a combination of both.

I also don't read too much into the Yze appointment. I'll read into it greatly when he becomes the head coach. Until then, Goodwin has too much influence. If he has any influence, he has too much. I've seen more than enough from him to realise that he's lost the players and most of the fans.

Jordan's lack of grit

Nice!

An observation as insightful as the accuracy of the spelling of his name.

Please do 'Dr', I would be interested in your player observations from the past.

So long as they're not hindsight observations.

Nostradamus supposedly also had a history of getting things right... unfortunately the number of 'correct' predictions paled into insignificance against those he got wrong.

Please do Doc. Big claims lets see them.I love history.

The record needs to be set straight.  JJ's "lack of grit" is a myth.  I've watched him at Casey on numerous occasions and haven't once seen him "lack grit", in fact I've seen the opposite on many occasions.

The claim by Dr. D is just silly.

Yeah I'm keen to see some evidence. He's had a lot more wrong then right imo.

But happy to be proven wrong if he has hard solid facts.

there....fixed it for ya, doc.......makes better sense now

no need to thank me

Im not agreeing with everything the good Doc has put up but Sparrow and Pickett are 2 players that I have queries about and would be surprised if they are regular players. Im surprised how a slowish not super skilled mid like Sparrow is spoken about reasonably highly and hope Im wrong in my negativity.

Those that rate Pickett as 1st class and about to explode (theres quite a few), are plainly wrong I think, and rose coloured glasses abound. Look at the Stats. Why would we draft 2 similar to take his spot? About as spectacular as David Cordner (look him up) and about as useful. Im picking a side here and dont hope to be wrong!

I agree with Kossie being a bit speculative.

He will never be a 20+ possession winner, but he really needs to make his limited touches count.

Defensive pressure won't always be enough

Think people are being a bit harsh on Pickett given that he's just a kid coming off his first year at this level.

Way too early to make a cleat call on Kozzie yet imo. Yes, he missed some absolute sitters and slipped over way too much,  but then he also did some extraordinary brilliant things also. A raw , talented, 1st  year player who’s at least a chance to be a gun... but no guarantee. Let’s talk with more clarity at years end as I’m  on the fence.

Sorry Wellsy. We cant afford to give another year to project players. This is the year it has to come together for finals + or this build is lost. Smith Kozzie Hibberd, TMac and Melk have to start off on the good foot without "a few games " to settle them in.

Wouldn't call Sparrow "slow". I think possibly you and others are getting a little sucked into the cliche of 'slow inside mids' and 'quick skillful outside players' when players aren't always as cut and dry as that. Sparrow has a more than handy burst of speed on him. If you look at how he's managed to break into a midfield most thought was already packed, I don't think it's that surprising he's 'reasonably highly' rated for the stage of his career he's at.

I might have missed it, but I haven't seen a lot of people saying Pickett is "about to explode"? I think a few are expecting a pretty decent jump in his output, I'm one of them I suppose, but the whole notion of 'exploding' or having a 'breakout year' is probably the most overdone thing in football. He's got some improvement to do, no doubt, but he lead us for tackles inside 50 and had decent rankings for goal assists, score involvements and goals, so probably a bit early to be basically calling him a bust after 1 season, especially a season FAR from normal preparation and training wise.

And personally I don't think Bowey or Laurie are that similar to Kozzy. I would class Kozzy as a crumbing pressure forward with x-factor, whereas I would have both Bowey and Laurie more as higher small forwards, more likely to be looking at the spots of players like Spargo and ANB. Even so, we have been THAT short on creative small forwards that I don't really think drafting those two is a bad sign for Kozzy at all.

For mine, I would be placing more effort into queries on players like Brayshaw, vandenBerg, Smith, Melksham, TMac, Tomlinson, ANB, and a few more than I would on young blokes just starting in their careers.

Hahaha.

Kossie will be unbelievable.

He has every trick a small forward needs, his pressure is brilliant and the only thing stopping him is clearly his tank.

He did things last year that nobody in our side can do in terms of creating openings and chances at scores where normally there'd be none.

He is unreal.

Kozzie will be good. Brings a lot to the table but what most pleases me is his kicking. He is near technically perfect on both feet.

Project player? Kozzie is still in his teens! The kid had 20 scoring shots in 14 games in his debut year. If he had kicked 13.7 instead of 7.13 there would be no one questioning his value

Thanks for info Cc.

There is nothing on club website today on training session so am wondering if they have changed the schedule given it is at Casey and distance for players etc...just guessing.

Edit:  just checked club website and there wasn't anything there for last Friday.

Called the club again today.  Was put thru to answering service, again.  Left message asking for a call, again.  Have not heard back, again...'

...hope the club isn't missing out on membership calls!!

I know staffing is low but it is very frustrating to not receive a return call especially as the club advertised admin was re-opening on Mon Jan 11.  Will call again tomorrow...

Anyone on DL with direct contacts at the club?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
