Dee Zephyr 19,332 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Enjoying watching him so far, just looks relaxed and controlled. Love it when the supporters find extra voice when he starts to run. He burnt Dahlhaus in the first quarter with ease after starting behind him and the look on Dahlhaus whilst chasing was priceless....and that 50-60 metre chase he didn’t give up on in the last quarter when he wasn’t going to get near the Geelong players was inspiring, he actually beat 3 of his teammates after starting way behind them to get closest to helping Lever. 9 1 Quote

The reason he has declined is the same reason why Harmes has declined in form. They're being played out of position. Nothing more, nothing less. I may have got the year wrong but my evaluation of Hunt surely gets added to the long list of things I've been right about? Where are all of those people now? come and say hi. Quote
DeeZone 10,606 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I love Hunt and what he brings to the club, watching him, Langdon & Kozzie streaming down the wing was a sight to behold and at 26 has years ahead of him, he looks fitter, tougher and more composed. Good on you Jayden Hunt .!!!!!!!!!! 13 Quote
Maldonboy38 6,440 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I had him being delisted at the end of this year - couldn't see his best place in our starting 22, and hadn't seen improvement in 2 years. Actually, I thought he had regressed. Boy am I glad I am wrong. He is quick and tough, a lot harder physically than he looks, and a serious handful for other teams in their planning. Loving his footy this year. 13 Quote

I hope it can continue - I'm a little bit of a sceptic though. I think part of the reason why he got moved from the backline was that after 2016/2017 other teams did their homework on him. Obviously part of this related to his kicks that didn't necessarily hit targets... but I think they also worked out ways to lessen his impact. After his injury in the 70m torp game against the crows (i think) he seemed to also lose confidence when he returned. However, this year, he's looking confident, the rules suit him, he's improved his kicking reliability significantly and hopefully has enough other talented teammates that attract as much of the opposition's attention (if he keeps playing the way he is, it will come). Definitely an asset to the side - it's amazing that once you have him, Langdon and Kozzie in the side, outsiders talk us up as a "fast" team. It's a nice change! 2 Quote
jnrmac 20,392 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I confess I was chatting to him pre-season and was very confident after speaking with him about his prospects. Said high half forward is a very difficult role to play. You can do the same thing each week and one week have 3 posessions the other kick 4 goals like in the last round v Essendon. So much depnds on what happens up the ground. He was looking forward to being allowed to be more creative off half back under the new rules. Appears to be gaining more confidence and finding a good rapport with Langdon, Salem, May etc. 14 5 Quote
jnrmac 20,392 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Watch the play in the last qtr where Lever stopped the almost certain goal and in the background you see Hunt take off and burn off 3 or 4 geelong players in the chase to put pressure on. Great stuff 15 Quote

kallangurdemon 551 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 My observation is that he is running more when he doesn't t have the ball and creating an extra player .He is as quick as ever and although I don't expect him to be Stan Alves it would help if he could learn to side step or baulk rather than just run straight . 1 Quote
titan_uranus 25,266 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Surely in contention for most improved this year. He's never been this good. What he used to have as a defender was the dash and dare. He's never had the two-way running or the physicality that he has this year. I don't mind him running halfway down the ground to drive us inside 50 because I'm more confident in our forward half game to keep the ball there that Hunt won't get exposed out of position. I'm also more confident in his ability to turn around and gut run back into defence if need be. And when we're in defence, I'm confident in his ability to win a one-on-one or to put his head over the ball when it's his turn. Loving his game so far this year. 9 Quote

spalding 1,128 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I don’t reckon he’s missed a tackle all season. The biggest thing for me, besides having more faith in his choices and disposal, is how good a one on one defender he has become this year. 1 Quote
old55 23,867 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Good coaching has recognized his potential with the man on the mark rule change. He's playing a lot better than I expected and it's very exciting when he gets the ball but as others have noted he's great in the contest now too. 4 Quote

Demon Jack 7,201 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 This is proving to be an inspired piece of list management. Jayden Hunt circa 2016-17 is back in full force. 1 Quote

Go the Biff 3,474 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 He's improved week on week this season. R1 was pretty ordinary to my eye. Overran the ball several times & let it get out the back. R2 he tidied that up and tightened up his defensive game but his disposal was pretty shoddy. R3 his disposal improved & his support running & defensive running got better. His dashes forward see to have more purpose now & I suspect he & Langdon get quite a kick out of combining & putting on the afterburners. He's always going to throw in the odd clanger but as someone else has pointed out, we're better at dealing with that now. Let's hope he continues to consolidate & improve. In his current form he makes us a better team. Also makes us even more fun to watch 2 Quote

Bay Riffin 1,518 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 In the last 3 weeks he’s played in a more defensive style then he used to. And now chooses when to run. He seem calmer and if you watch him, when teammates run off he isn’t in such a big rush to join them. But instead takes a defensive position for the turnover. he used to be all duck no dinner but now his closing speed is critical to stopping fast opponents. I didn’t think he had it in him to try as a backman again but so far so good. 1 Quote
BDA 23,048 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I wasn't in favor of his move back to defence at all so happy to be proven wrong. Shaky against Freo but has found is feet. Very good against the giants and excellent against Geelong. Hopefully this isn’t just a purple patch and he can sustain this level for the season. I think he will. 1 Quote
Lou C. Fur 1,009 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Excellent News! Hunt by name and Hunt by nature - his speed, accuracy and tenacity this year is stunning. Let's hope this trend on re-signing our players continues... 1 Quote
At Least I Saw a Flag 5,356 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Agree with the above. Having said that, I've always thought he was a pretty gutsy player. Can't remember him ever squibbing a contest. 2 Quote
