We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Here's what i think will happen with selections (and also what i agree should happen):

Out:

Jones: needs a freshen up and two games in 9 games a perfect opportunity

Kozzie: needs a freshen up and two games in 9 games a perfect opportunity

Hibbo: bad sprain, makes sense to give him at least the swans game to recover

Hannan: was given an opportunity with the late withdrawal of Jones last week and hasn't taken it. Kicking was terrible yesterday and could not stick a tackle (a caveat, i'm guessing he did work super hard to cover the switich and outlet kicks and if so Goody may well reward the work ethic)

In

Bennell: comes in for Jones and plays on the win. They will be thinking a week at time of course and not get ahead of themselves, but have to be planning for finals. If they want Harley available as an option for finals he needs some game time. With no disrespect to Swans and Freo these next two games are the best opportunity to give him some. Will need to be a lot more physical though than he was in the Crows game if he is to remain in the team.

Hunt: the chance to return bit on the dees website is usually pretty close to to the mark in terms of who comes in (this week flagging Omac, Rivers and Wagner) and he was a player highlighted. Seems an obvious swap for Hannan, with the added bonus of a better tackler and more speed

Bedford: comes in to play the small forward's role (though i suspect Corey Wagner might also be a chance for this role)

Smith: a natural swap for hibberd. Wasn't nearly as bad as many suggested as he was given the role of a big. Sit him on Papley with orders to wear him like a glove crunch him at every opportunity. Papley is clever and will likely snag a goal or two but Smith has the speed and strength to go with him and make life difficult for him (lochart might also be a chance for this role)

I thought you knew what you were talking about, until you put Smith in, he has no footy smarts, and plays nothing like hibbo, paps would kick 5 on him, am telling you Smith's papers have been marked, never to play again, wagner was really good last night played really well.

We can not afford to rest Pickett.

We need more pressure players at that end of the field not less.

Edit: Would be happy if we had a like for like replacement but I'm not sure we do - Corey Wagner or Bedford?

Pickett has looked totally out of his depth for several weeks. He has a lot to learn. Reminds me a bit of Sean Charles, often threatening but very rarely delivering. Like for like is not always the right recipe for selection. All our midfielders including Harmes can rotate through the forward line and give far better value than Pickett ATM.

Totally agree about Spargo. He nailed some tackles at time where if they got through or broke the tackle they would’ve scored. He’s always buzzing around. His opportunity to score will come.

Garbage.. if you are getting many tackles in .. It means you are second to the ball.

If Harley Bennell isn't a better bet than this guy then we are not developing our scoring power!

12 possessions in the modern game in two games??... As a forward ! He is SECOND TO THE BALL !! Sheesch

No need to be offensive! He just isn't good enough!

I think you're understating the difficulty of playing small forward.

We need guys that are working on the very specific running patterns, week in week out. Throwing a midfielder forward every now and then is fine but we will generate very little forward pressure if we have two or three makeshift forwards down there.

You don't create that forward pressure by simply having intent - it's a practiced skill to be there when you're needed.

Kozzy is our number one pressure player - number 4 in the comp for pressure acts among forwards. Comparing him to a lazy, overweight player from the 90s is totally off the mark, in my view.

Does he need a rest? Probably, but you have to replace that pressure. Harmes is unlikely to have worked on that forward craft and be able to generate that sort of pressure.

I'd rather take a player with less profile or skill that works on forward craft as his day job.

Our entire game plan depends heavily on the level of the forward pressure we can generate. We can and do win games without these small forwards scoring goals and getting touches but we can't function if that pressure is not there.

Yes he is. Watch the last 2 games. He’s been really good. Many players are SECOND TO THE BALL!! It doesn’t happen every time! I bet you’re second to the coffee queue sometimes!

Keyboard warriors who criticise players who are putting their bodies on the line and improving but can’t take a little disagreement themselves! Lol. Apart from the fact that he’s wrong about  Spargo.

Those statistics mean very little. Many possessions are useless. Many are not counted properly. Some possessions are important and even vital. Some tackles and particular possessions can turn the tide of a game. The absolute number is not always representative of the influence a player has on a game.
In the St Kilda game Viney was tackled with the ball and smashed into the ground in the first quarter. Soon after, the commentators commented that ‘Viney hasn’t had a touch’, The definition of a ‘touch’ is therefore B$.

Young players take a while to develop consistency. Kossie has shown enough  that he will be an excellent player for us, but maybe at this stage we are taking too big a risk playing him as we move towards finals. Hunt would be a better bet now. I have no doubt Kossie will be a  key player for us in the future. Same goes for Spargo....

In last weeks match I’d take Spargo’s second to the ball but tackling over either of Hannan and AvB’s nothing to the ball and no tackles. One of his main roles is to pressure, if he’s doing that then he’s ticking a box.

Either of those two should be getting the chop over Spargo (who I’m no fan of).

May and Lever play pretty well without Oscar too.

Oscar was deliberately responsible for the Marshall goal just before half time. He had a clear chance of the spoil, lumbered to the contest and let the ball spill straight to Marshall to crumb.

He also was responsible for the Ryder goal I think in the 3rd. Ran straight under the ball.

Plus the easy Membrey lead. Plus the easy Marshall mark in the first.

The Saints kicked 7 for the night and Oscar gave up 3 of them.

Total bollocks.

Watch the replay. It's inexplicable to be a tall defender in the perfect position and not get a decent spoil on that kick before half time, in fact Oscar barely made the contest. His legs were stuck in quicksand as usual.

Then he trails in his opponent to let the ball go over the back that leads to the Ryder goal.

Lever played his part in those same stuff ups but Oscar had prime position both times.

The confident quick feet of his first couple of games back in the side this year look gone and he's back in slow motion.

We will know we have a flag chance when there is no need to play Hannah and Spargo. They are both VFL players who give you good game a couple of times a year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Max Gawn doesn't play, play Preuss V Sydney and give Max a full week break for Fremantle.

Hannan goes out for Fritsch

Then it depends on Hibbard fitness, you would expect Lockhart or even Jetta(bit more experience) to come in.

Baker for AVB or Jones, think this is unlikely

Agree. In fact we won due to Trac, May, Langdon and Olly.

We won despite Oscar, Spargo, AVB and Hannan giving us NOTHING. They should go (Pickett to be managed, and Hibbo to get a full 9 days to recover and come back for the Freo game).

Max worked his way into the game and had a great second half.

He thrives on playing - unless it's injury management, you keep the momentum.

Injury management, give him Sydney off, means he has a 9 day break till Fremantle game, then a 5 day break to GWS and most likely 7 days break to Essendon.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
