SEN have been choosing the all time best/favourite 4 players for every team over the lockdown period.

Who makes your Mount Rushmore?

Checker Hughes - changed culture brought 4 flags and made us Demons

Norm - needs no explanation

Robbie Flower- shining light through dark times along with god given football ability

Jim Stynes - club stalwart on the ground and driving force behind the debt demolition, which sees we still exist

Missing out

RDB - great player but can't single him out from those great sides, his coaching greatness was elsewhere

Neiter - most games, most games as skipper and most goals

Warne-Smith- bias here, but until the 80's he was in all the top ten lists, 50 years after he played, Bunton, Coventry etc described him as their best opponent. Hard as nails and then there is his time as Chairman of Selectors working with Smith in the 50's

Barassi-Our Michael Voss but better. Obviously there is unanimous consent on this so i won't bore further...

Flower- Supremely skilled, lay down flush. Again consent on RF.

Stynes- Lion heart, what an amazing human. He could've the bloke from 'unbroken', just never gives up...

Smith and Hughes would obviously get gigs as coaches, I went players only.

Stiff: Many; Neitz, Adams, Allan La Fontaine - Captain of a hat trick of premierships ffs.

I think you've identified the real problem. Mt Rushmore is just not suitable. We need something that allows greater representation. Something that would enable many more MFC luminaries to be chosen. Something like the Terracotta Warriors.

Mind you, a funerary tomb might send the wrong message.

Stynes: Greatest football story....Brownlow, 4 x Bluey's, 2 x AA, Hall of Fame & 244 consecutive games.....rediculous!

Flower: Super skilled in very difficult times but more importantly, loyal to the red & blue, Capt 81-87, 1 x Bluey, Hall of Fame & 2 x AA

Barassi: 6 Premierships, 2 Bluey's, Capt 60-64 & Hall of fame

Neitz: Capt 2000 - 08, 1 x Bluey, Coleman 02, 2 x AA, Hall of Fame & 7 time leading goal kicker

Agree with those 4. Flower had no right to be as brave as he was with a build like that.

Injury probably stopped Schwarz and maybe even Jakovich being up for consideration. Amazing footballers early in their careers.

to me ivor warne-smith was the greatest demon of all time. Maybe not the greatest player (though pretty close).

his life was like something out of a boys' own almanac.....he did everything....literally

I won't go through all the detail......you can read for yourself at wikipedia - ivor warne-smith

no wonder norm smith had such success with a team of him, jimmy cardwell, Ivor warne-smith and checker hughes

Yes, we could do with I.W. Smith right now

Quite a man. I miss the Ivor Warne doors at the Members Entrance...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
