Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I actually was thinking that we might see some exceptional skills, somehow less pressure, from having no live audience, results in a greater DE. Like in practice when they nail 20 set shots in a row. My dream is that ANB suddenly turns into Dusty;-)

Interesting. The players still know that there’s a million people watching and that every innocuous little piece of play will be analyzed. They just won’t have the instant feedback from the crowd – it will all be on their own shoulders.

In similar circumstances (jokes) I played touch/social footy not that long ago and I couldn’t temper my competitive streak, didn’t matter that no one was watching – I just had to beat my opponent and was willing to go above and beyond to do it.

Footy players are ultra competitive so I think it will be high intensity – question is whether that translates for the viewers without crowd involvement / feedback.

Could be a bit like watching a sitcom without the ‘laugh track’ - a bit soulless unless the true quality of the content is prominent.

I will be somewhat surprised if the radio stations at least don't use some canned noise. How boring will radio be without it?

I have listened to broadcasts before when the callers have all but admitted the sound people are juicing it up. Hope they do it this weekend. Will listen with interest.

No crowd, shorter Qtrs, 17 round season I’m so excited that we will have footy back this weekend to get our minds off all the [censored] that is going on in the world right now. Can’t wait to see us smash them eagles.  Trac to get 36 touches and kick 5 goals.  Fritta also 5 goals. We win by 37 points

This happened regularly in the early GWS games when they scored a goal.  The tv broadcasters may even put images over the empty seats to make it look more realistic.

Agree with you, hope radio and tv juice things up a bit - as long as it isn't more of BT and Darcy etc.  btw I believe BT is subject to the 14 day self isolation...

It will be good to see some meaningful footy played this weekend. Have been hanging out for it and after the last few virus weeks it will be a welcome distraction.

It will be an interesting selection this weekend. We have a good strong list to elect from and only a few key injuries.

In defence we have OMac, May Lever Jetta and Hibberd all locked in there for R1.  Harmes i being groomed for the HB and I could see him rotating with Lockhart through there for this game. We may need to swing him into a tagging role in the middle if it is required so I can see Lockhart named on the bench.

We need TMac firing up forward. Fritsch and Melksham will be there and I think will cause a lot of headaches for a lot of defences this season. I would have Weideman and Pickett in the team. Weideman as a support to Max and Pickett because I think he has shown enough to get a crack at small forward spot.  Max to spend some time in the forward 50 when resting. Shorter quarters will allow this to happen more.

Midfield to spread its new wings Tomilinson and Langdon with a mix of Petracca, Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw to run around at Max's feet. Melksham and Harmes to get a run in the middle a well at times.

Jones and Sparrow on the bench with Lockhart and i would have ANB there as well for his ability to run all day and to cover a few different roles.

B   -       Jetta            O.McDonald       Hibberd

HB  -     Lever               May                Harmes

C    -     Langdon        Petracca        Tomlinson

HF  -     Melksham    T.McDonald    Brayshaw

F     -     Pickett           Fritsch           Weideman

R    -     Gawn               Oliver              Viney

IC   -     Jones      Lockhart    Sparrow   Neal-Bullen

EMR: Jackson, Bedford, Hore, Hunt.

Agree with the side but I'd have Jackson instead of weideman simply because he is more mobile for shortened quarters.

Does anyone know what the logic is behind shortening the Quarters??  I'm a little baffled by that one!  Really can't think of any reason for it.  Can anyone here shed any light??

Presumably so that when they try and play games with a shorter turnaround, that players won't be as fatigued.

About the only logical explanation I can come up with, and even then, I'm sure some will pick holes in it (remembering it's not my idea, it's Gil's!).

I suppose that's about as logical as you can get.  Gotta admit, though, that if that's the reason, I really question how useful it will be...

Great to see both Pickett and Bedford in the side.  I think both have plenty to offer inside 50 for us that we lacked last season.

This means Luke Jackson will miss out on a debut but I think that's the right decision at this stage.

Seeing this has me fired up for the game on the weekend.  Can't wait!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
