Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Is there something going on at AAMI to clear out the other tenants?

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/home-of-matildas-to-be-in-melbourne-after-116m-government-backing-20210516-p57sb6.html

"Construction on the $116 million Victorian Home of the Matildas will kick off in December, with the state-of-the-art facility at Latrobe University set to be completed in time for the national team to train there ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia.

Rugby union will also be a beneficiary of the state and federal government largesse, with top-class facilities for that sport to develop its own State Rugby Union Centre also being built at the same facility."

This following the announcement of facilities for Rugby League north of the city last week.

If Rebels and Storm move their training from Gosch's, then a whole new area is available.

I read this late last week George and thought perhaps a comment about our future was not far off. Still we wait!

I know you're not being serious, but to explain why we don't, the answer is quite simple:

  • from October to March - cricket
  • for the rest of the year - read this

Surely that rest of the year issue is just a giant speed/agility ladder for the likes of Gawny, BB & LJ.  Those three could still train at the G in cricket's off season!

Well it would appear that there is no mention in the state budget about a new home for the MFC or did I miss it?

No you didn't.  My misinformation was that funds were allocated for a feasibility study.

I would love to think we might hear something before I return to dust but I am beginning to doubt it Jontee.

Just quoting Kate Roffey on the subject, as discussed this week on the Deeluded podcast. There is a thread here about it. I suggest we all have a listen.

Why don’t we just keep things simple and train on the MCG? ?

Seriously why not. We have Casey to train at while the cricket is on. We should use our relationship with the MCC to make this happen. Use the argument that Geelong train on their home ground and so should we.

The budget would only include a line item for funding if such a decision had already been made and announced.

It would be a large enough project that it could be announced in one financial year and then included in the budget in the next. That's because only a relatively small sum will be needed in the first year for planning purposes with the bulk of the expenditure needed in second and perhaps subsequent years to pay for construction costs.

How many years has this been going on?

The board must be happy with a 9 zero start as it is probably all that most members can think about. Imagine if we were 3 -6 the subject of the home ground would be getting a lot more attention as would their performance in a number of areas. Right now they are probably thinking the members are happy let’s shut up about anything else. Or perhaps I am just a half century cynic.

At least 30.  I can remember Stuart Spencer telling everyone we would be setting up at Caulfield racecourse.

When were we flung from the G for training?

1985 - 2007 at Junction Oval.

As you know I was Team Manager of the Dees under Big Carl in 1979 and we trained on the G.

Being on the ground with the boys was a time that I will never forget.

I still think a potential home base, close to the city, with some room to build that also has some AFL/VFL history is Brunswick Street Oval.

Part of the redevelopment would probably have to include relocating the Tennis Club, but I think it has potential.

Also with all the bars etc so close, you wouldn't have to worry about a social club. Would also be convenient for Lingers to get to training!

That is a great memory, so it is now 36 years without a home, that must be some sort of record. The MFC sure has some different records in its history both high and low.

The fact that this matter hasn't been rectified in over 30 years is unacceptable.

Besides winning Premierships, financial stability and growing membership the main priority of the Melbourne Football Club board should be to rectify this issue and to build a home base for training, administration and a social club.

It needs to be either within the MCG precinct (ideally), the Caulfield Racecourse, Fishermen's Bend, South Yarra, Elsternwick or where ever.

We as Melbourne Demons supporters need to continue to press this issue until it is finally resolved and we have a proper home.

In my op Rugby, the Game, should be removed from the Victorian landscape altogether.

I'll go further, should not be included in school syllabuses. Should be mooted as a dangerous contact sport and social DE fabricator. All Governments and Medical Advisory Boards should open their eyes and realise what a risk to society as a whole this is.

be careful what you ask for....

if this was to eventuate then it would be inevitable that australian rules footy would also be altered such that it wouldn't resemble the game that we currently cherish

Do we have plans drawn up or are we winging it until we find land? Hope they have put it out to tender to get pricing done to go to the government with otherwise this is so far off we may never see it.

Reckon the club has had it's hands full trying to get all things you listed under control, not just the home base!

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
