Let’s address the Elephant in the room here, The question has to be asked.

-Playing OMac as full forward.

-No manning up on Sidebottom

-Playing Hore in the VFL

These are the types of moves which raise eyebrows

With the difference between pick 2 and pick 3 this year, have we gone into our old ways.

Absurd. Why would we as we are locked in to 17th?

Anyway, sadly we don’t need to.

I very much doubt it.

Are the coaches doing things that I don't understand and don't particularly like, sure.

I would be flabbergasted after what happened with this club if there was any thought to losing games purposefully.

No we aren't... Bearing the pies on the weekend wouldn't have changed our pick

Unless he's part of the deep state?

I don't ask the questions, the questions ask me.

If we were tanking, Fritsch would be floating around somewhere unclear near the backline-ish.

Anyway, if we are tanking, what the hell are the Kangaroos doing?

Aaaaaaaaah, that's why they signed Shaw. It was the only way they could get him to agree to stop winning.

Clearly tanking.

We could have won every match this season, but instead are choosing to lose.

Thank god someone has finally addressed and shone the bright lights of justice upon the 'elephant in the room'.

You forgot Goody coaching Melbourne, Oli! That alone should answer your question!

I think we are, I was talking to my mate yesterday and put forward the hypothetical that if we were to play the Suns either this week or next with a win putting us ahead of Carlton and finishing 16th. We both agreed we would find a way to lose. Sadly we know it, so do the players, yet on the flip side we’re offering players clearly past it new contracts.

Anything can be "considered suspicious" if that's how you want to think.

Read @DeeSpencer's post in thread about Gawn and whether we cost him an AA spot to understand why Sidebottom was "left alone" (which isn't accurate).

OMac in the forward line at least makes sense given our injuries and lack of others to play that role (Preuss last week being so bad as to be dropped).

I don't agree with Hore playing VFL but with May, Lever and Frost all in the side was there a spot for him alongside those three?

Our fitness has been terrible all season, so unless you think we've been tanking since Round 1, I'm not sure that's a great argument either.

At worst it could be "partial cue in the rack" to minimise injuries and try and get an extra year out of the likes of Jones (eg., turning Jones from a mostly inside beast over the course of this year and possibly a little last year to a mostly outside role player).

Maybe the FD just feel there's been so much disruption what's the point and the Oscar experiment was just allowing him the opportunity to show something before a likely career finish.

These end of season non-event matches give the opportunity to experiment and they allow those on their last chance to have a final hoorah and a chance at redemption if needed.

Sadly there's very little else one can take from the position we find ourselves in.  A few wins would be handy but unfortunately the belief and spirit of the playing group has slowly waned with every loss.

The two captains in particular have seemed disinterested from about the half way mark for whatever reason/s.  I can't recall either of them appearing to be super unified and playing like brothers in arms too often if at all.

Many have speculated that something is awry and it can't just all be about the pre-season issues.  I have no idea but my gut feel says something is NQR in a big way amongst at least "some" within the playing group.  I am not saying this has emanated from within the playing group either.  Possibly issues within the FD trickling down?  Possibly the poor management of the Jones contract talks?  A personality clash between Jones & Viney?  Pure speculation but somewhere something feels amiss.

Omac played some forward time as a junior. We switched his brother forward last year. Was that tanking too?

And you're hanging your tanking hat on a 12 game first year player, pick 56 which no other club wanted?

I believe you are tanking as a poster.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
