Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And I don't believe this is in anyway an issue for all those asking.

Tomlinson good mates with Dom Tyson and would be well known to a lot of the other demons. Just banter from Tracc.

Put Tomlinson in number 6 and have him buy coffees for Tracc, he'd be a good leader and team mate for him I think.

Sounds like it was a little more nasty than just banter but I don't think it's an issue going forward.

Richmond got end of 2nd comp pick (#39) for Ellis and he is reportedly on $600k pa for 5 years.  So Tomlinson would have to be in the same range to get the same comp pick #40

Tigers got pick after there 2nd which is as high as you can go without been a first round comp, gws get end of 2nd round which is lowest 2nd round comp you can get. Ladder position makes them similar picks in the end but the contacts is suspect would be significantly different, I’m guessing 3 years and high 300 - low 400 for Tomlinson based on that

The Tomlinson reply is still there and it was "liked" by a few MFC players (including McKenna), so thinking it was just jest.

Petracca's comment was pretty nasty. Perhaps he wasn't in on the joke and then deleted it later.

I'm not sure it was all that nasty, just more likely something that could become a story or could be used against him by other players. Suddenly I'm regretting bringing this up.

I think people are confounding the need for pace, when you play on the wing, vs outside run from stoppages.

Best wingman this year (not the AFL AA version)... bloody Mitch Robinson...

Someone already posted it early this year.. this article is a fascinating read on how to play wing in 2019, and what the expected requirements are...

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/mitch-robinson-why-allaustralian-panel-made-a-mockery-of-players-by-not-selecting-genuine-wingmen/news-story/9e0d4e49d1770d54788d0a2174461cef

Some key points from Mitch on how he viewed traditional wingman...

I think some current posters, still hold this view.

Before this year, my perspective on what attributes are required for a winger would be what most of the AFL community probably thinks, that they:

— Hate the contested football

— Are extremely fit

— Probably weigh about 70 to 80kg

— Are a great ball-user and can run the 3km time trial in less than 10 minutes

Tomlinson is 194cms.  96 kgs. From seeing him live v Pies and from highlights, his a key position type player.   Not quick.  Good skills.  Good contested mark.  Good kick for goal.  That’s the CHF or CHB type. He can be a versatile pickup who can play backup ruck.  Good get.

But not as a wingman.  Langdon helps us with outside run and carry.

I'm not sure we can trust the Ellis comparison. Ellis's compo was just short of a 1st rounder according to the AFL. But I'd be amazed if it didn't hit that and the AFL were reacting to the media noise about the reigning Premier getting a first rounder for a player they haven't fought to keep.

Not necessarily.

The AFL said Richmond fell only a couple of point short of higher compensation, and included in the formula would be the success of the team and given Richmond have won 2 of the last 3 flags, that would be significant. The Giants compo points could be miles apart but within the same 'band' so might not be that close.

Garbo's post below clarifies the difference between Rich and GWS second rd pick vs end of second rnd pick

Thanks Garbo.

Just to clarify the criteria.  The AFL essentially look at Age and Contract $.  They don't look at contract length.

The bands are:

  1. 1st round (after natural pick)
  2. End of first round
  3. 2nd round (after natural pick)
  4. End of second round.

We don't know where in the End of 2nd Round (Band 4) Tomlinson came in at.  He could be on the edge of a 2nd Round pick (Band 3).  So we can't say that we overpaid, underpaid or that Tomlinson is on $xxx.

fwiw this article says his contract is $500 pa  Tomlinson Trade

I don't really care tbh.  I was simply trying to answer SWYL's question but didn't get it quite right.  Tricked by #39 and #40 looking the same for the two grand finalists.

I'm sorry to be a buzz kill but Tomlinson is very average. he is a very poor decision maker and also not quick.  not at all sure what the dees recruiting team saw in him. unless he us going to be used as a key forward then I think this is a poor move.

I mean, why the hell aren't we throwing everything at Papley? he is literally everything we need. defensive intent and pressure, speed and goal kicking nous. crazy

Let's be honest, there is no formula.

It's just the AFL deciding what they want to give based on the side losing the player.

It helped us net a top 3 pick for Frawley so I'm not complaining.... just think if they want to be serious about it the formula should be available to all and transparent.

I can understand why the don't make it available though as it would be easily manipulated. Players would be getting VERY specific contract offers.

That does make sense.

In my mind there should be no compensation.

I think 8 years in the system players should be restricted free agents and then after 10 they should be unrestricted for the remainder of their career. This would increase the movement of players and make it easier for older players to chase a flag if they want or leave successful clubs to chase bigger dollars.

Or one alternative would be a compensation pick is only received if the player leaves a club lower on the ladder.

being average in a good side is still a step up for us. we are getting him without giving away a draft pick. He runs (be it every so slowly) and finds space, he marks well and can kick goals. He may not be the quickest but there have been a lot of great players who's agility make up for it, i think he fits that mold. I dont know how much we are paying ANB who is probably much faster, but is a poor kick for goals, not a great mark and seldom finds space except in the form of tail wind chasing coming off his opposition player who has the ball.

I think a good get, that only cost us $'s that we would have to over pay a lesser player.

Yeah I like that lower on the ladder idea, makes a lot of sense. At the moment some of the lower clubs are being shifted down the draft order due to free agent compo.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
