Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I spoke to the players, QLD is more humid, impacts their breathing, all like what it brings to the preaseson though

Had about 5 'really' hot sessions in Melb this year, I know I've been at all of them

What's the question Alex?

I thought I would impart the knowledge I had second hand from the players

Also spent 10 years there playing soldiers, the couple of players I discussed it with knew that, so we discussed the impact of strenuous activity in that humidity

Only difference being I was kitted out in greens, boots, packs and a thing that went bang

So therefore in conclusion thought it was ok to answer

Take the immediate heat away from the issue and they’ll be operating at a higher density altitude than they’re used to .. I.e. they’ll be effectively playing at a higher altitude, slightly starved of the usual oxygen concentration that they’re used to..

Nothing an EFC “supplement injection” or two couldn’t fix..

I don't care what temp it is, I will still be there with my camera gear. (Easy to say as I'm not playing I guess)

Both sides have to play in the same weather so it's not a huge issue IMO. The season is long and a slowish start won't be the end of the world for any of the serious contenders.

In MFC i trust.

AH, good old Shepp.

Miserable, dreary 5 Celsius in winter, and blistering hot 44c in Summer.

Still wish I was going to the game.

For anyone worried about the ground condition, it is (usually) very well prepared for these types of games.

Anyone who has actually played in hot conditions knows that it's never as bad as it seems. You're focussing on the ball, on the game. You're running, you're getting the wind in your lungs.  They'll be fine. Such a precious bunch you are.

It won’t even be as bad as Port Pirie which is where the JLT showdown is.

A question for our Qld members, does the Sunshine Coast / Gold Coast get much hotter than low 30's.  My recollection is that it tends to be pretty consistent around the 29c - 32 mark.  I think Melbourne could even experience more "Hot" days.

regardless 38 degrees is significantly hotter than the preparation most clubs can plan/cater for, plus it is dry heat which effects you differently.

Clarrie will likely need to be dipped in a bath of sunscreen every 15 min's to avoid 5 degree burns!!!

We can get around mid to high 30's at times but mainly around the 30- 35 degrees during summer and as Saty mentioned it can be very humid.60-80% at times so stiffling heat. This year we have had no real storms to speak about to cool things down. Up until yesterday (29 degrees tops) we have had 40 odd days of above 30 degrees and humid with little or no rain.

Smart decision.

I'd rest Gawn, Brayshaw, Petracca, Lewis, Salem, Harmes, Hibberd, Vanders and Jetta.

Give Fritsch a run. Probably don't risk Tommy Mc or Oliver though. Or Jones, Melksham, Viney and May.

That leaves 16 from the team v Pies:
Spargo, Stretch, Frost, Preuss, JKH, Weideman, Oscar, Hunt, ANB, Hore, Sparrow, Garlett, T Smith, Wagner, Wagner, J Smith

Fritsch makes 17. Would like to see Maynard, Baker, Petty, Keilty and a few of the young guys to fill out the side.

For those who are trekking to my home town of Shepparton for the game.... I’ll be going back to my old ground of Deakin Reserve the day after my daughters wedding here in Ballarat. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to post some pics on the long drive home Sunday night.

AFL is activating the Heat Policy:

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-02-28/afl-to-enact-heat-policy-for-jlt-this-weekend

The quarter-time and three-quarter time breaks will run for eight minutes (increased from six minutes), while the half-time changeover period has been extended to 22 minutes rather than the usual 20 minutes.

Teams will also be permitted the following:

  • Two additional water carriers
  • Trainers permitted to enter the arena at any time during the match to deliver water (they must remain well clear of play).

Only sensible thing to do!

Edit.  It looks like all teams in the JLT play with an extended bench.  Tonight, Carlton have 5 on the bench and Ess have 8.  https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-02-28/final-teams-carlton-v-essendon

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
