Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 20

I said the same to a mate earlier @Moonshadow. On paper (and with the week they had), a belting was on the cards. All they could take out of it were incredibly small wins.

I'm satisfied but feel a bit sad for the Suns. I chortled when we belted Carlton as their supporters are A grade head wobblers (plus Jed Lamb was the bloke with the most false confidence since Choco Williams in the 2007 GF).

I think that the Swans game is the big one. The Pies pushed them to the very brink (and with 10 quality players missing). We win and then it's a case of playing for the highest possible position in the eight as opposed to playing with an axe dangling above your head. That can be quite liberating.

They are nothing special Bbo we can beat them if we kick a little straighter. We seriously missed some sitters.

The wind at ground level was huge and affecting ball drop esp. In 2nd quarter when the team tried to finesse a bit. Huge outcome narg5in wise given the conditions

No team  has succeeded on gold coast but try telling afl head office that. This team will be a running sore for years.

Looks like GWS got a few injuries as well....finished the game with 16 players?

The odds were against them but crap loads of mistakes were made in the early going. Gazza as captain. Not consolidating on losing their talented kids by topping up with solid B grade veterans (ala GWS). Sacking Bluey McKenna.

They needed to cross every t and dot every i but produced something akin to a dee-luded post on Demonland.

The problem with the Suns as indeed the Bears ...AFL designed a cosmetic appearance of a team. It had no soul. Lions had to import one. GC.. is Priceline footy

Outside of the Joel Smith injury, this was the perfect win IMO.

Just look at the maturity of the players in the last term and the way in which they continued to hunt the opposition with crunching tackles and hard running.  It was fantastic to watch and further proof of how far this side had come.

I know many will talk about the Gold Coast injuries, and you can't argue they fielded a very poor side today, but we are still missing Lever, Viney, Hibberd and Melksham, four very important players for us and it shows how good our depth is that, even with those guys out, we can still smash a side by 16 goals.

So much to like about our performance as a whole, and to come out and put the Suns to the sword in the first term was very satisfying to watch.   You could name 15 players who had a major impact, and everyone played their role.

Enjoy it all, as this Melbourne side has the ability to go somewhere special this year.  The last 3 games, to me, are all extremely winnable and I see no reason why we can't finish in the Top 4 at the end of Round 23.

Demons!

Great performance. We were due a nice relaxing day at the footy I think! Right from the get go the intensity was up, we may not have been super clean but that got fixed up pretty quickly. It doesn’t matter who you play there is always stuff you can take out of a 90 odd point win. I think the big thing for me was that even though we had lulls in the game we never let a massive run on of goals occur. A lot of this could have been down to Gold Coast being inept but I thought it was a good sign.

Great to see Vanders back, looked a bit rusty of course but held his own out there. Salem played his most impressive game this season was bang on with every disposal. Clarry can’t be beat and Dom Tyson has hit his straps in the inside. Good team performance this one. Bummed about the Smith injury so stretched in that area. Would have liked him handy for Buddy as a second option but that’s toast now.

Good job Dees, did what we had to do. But the real stuff is next week.

If Deledio has done his calf again it's probably career over... certainly season over, old man injury that never comes up after just one or two.

We have NOT made finals. And of the last three games our best chance, and the only game we'd go in as favourites, is against the Swans. This is sort of an elimination final for both sides.

I have some concerns about Franklin. He will fire as will the rest of the swans. We need to get on top from the go and smash them. No silly stuff. Win next week and you can book the first round of final tickets, lose and we may be in the same boat but with points.

Props to Salem who is quietly becoming one of our best players. 26 disposals at 92% efficiency. 11 score involvements second only to Hogan and Oliver.

There are some players I get nervous about when the ball is in their vicinity. He isn’t one of them.

Deceptively hard at it too

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
