Tyson, Hunt and Garlett all "dropped" from the emergencies in favour of Bugg, Stretch and J Smith.

Not sure what, if anything, it means.

Doesn't mean much, except we've potentially got Tyson, Hunt, Garlett, Peds, Bugg, Stretch and JSmith as genuine AFL players - add in Frost, Kent and Weid and that makes a 'squad' of 34 or so before we get to the true development/prospect types (and not meant as any disrespect to them). Such a great position to be in, most experts talk about having a squad of at least 30 to play/win finals and we've got that now. Hopefully we use some of them to held keep the team fresh and on their toes about each position which will drive us even further.

MFCSS says that the mass positivity, confidence and optimism around us, and the disdain with which we are talking about the Dogs, means we're setting ourselves up for a classic MFC loss this week.

Intriguing notion, this idea of "Supporters as Team". Just because supporters are frothing at the mouth over achievements in the last month doesn't mean the actual team is thinking the same way.

Anyone else think the Casey team could give a couple of AFL sides a real shake at the moment?

Upon contemplating the game further it is reasonable to think we might be a little off this week.  It's hard to stay up week after week.

Like @Wiseblood said, a solid 4 or 5 goal win will do me.  They can then set themselves for round 23 redemption.

The Nill brothers. Have not seen them.

Sorry to burst your bubble.  But the Nills definitely are NOT brothers (just as the Lovetts weren't brothers, nor were the Osbornes!)

Had a feeling Joel Smith would be ahead of Jayden Hunt for a half back spot , and the emergencies are a good indication of that.

Don't be surprised if Smith is in our starting 18 come finals time.   Fantastic player with some very strong footy attributes to go along with his elite athleticism/leap.

His Power and Low centre of gravity, would be fantastic for finals games.   Shrugging tackles, and crashing packs and bodies.

Goodwin's lighter side.

His impersonation made me laugh - agree with the journo in the background:  'That's Gold!"

Bet that little piece of video will be played ad nauseam this weekend

Glad to here we have their feet planted firmly on the ground.

In a strange way this is another test game. A game we should win

We have had a bad habit of getting ahead  of ourselves and getting overconfident.

A win against dogs will show we have grown up

Tyson absolutely stiff to get 35 touches and two goals last week in the Magoos and not even make Emergency.

Stats obviously don’t mean a lot: maybe they didn’t go where they should have.  Maybe he didn’t do other things like defensive pressure, shepherding, making space.

I don’t think that the emergency list tells us a lot.

Joel hasn’t seemed to be anything near what he was since Nick Riewoldt dislocated Joel’s shoulder round 1 last year.  Does anyone in the know have info re his physical recovery and has he regained his confidence?

Our fifth test in a row, apparently.  Three "should beat" tests, a "good team" test, and now yet another "should beat" test.

Our poor lads are going to be knackered by the bye after all these tests.

Surely we can’t wear our retro gear with the Bullies lighter blue. Indigenous get up should do.

When we lose our next game in 2021, it’s going to invalidate every single victory between now and then, and we’ll realise it had just been ‘same old Melbourne’ all along.

To win the 4 quarters and make it 22 consecutive, a league record and smash the bullies. A good present for chunky's 250th. However it will be a Happy day for all of us.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
