If a stock, or in this case a bet, is oversold it is too cheap. Sellers have driven the price down; it is a buyer's market. When a commentator says it is overdone it means that to their eyes there has been too much selling or not enough buying. Therefore, we are "overs" - in a market that is supposedly priced for perfection - the Demons are false odds. The price is too long for the reasons stated. I am no McLachlan apologist but in this case a number of posters have disappeared down the wrong wormhole.

It seemed unbelievable that a bloke as bald as grandpa was actually playing footy. And the revolting Gabelich clocked him - boo. Don Williams was a favourite though with the brycreemed, slick back hair and white ankle bandages. Sadly, the game is a mist. I remember celebrating but didn't that always happen? I mean Melbourne always won. So imagine how shocked I was 12 months later and they didn't make the four!

Lewis is the most over rated player on the list. Sure he's got a history - but that's in the poos and wees. He is an exemplary pointer and we cleared Jack Watts to make room for that skill. He can make at least one glaring, goal conceding stuff-up per game and we dropped Bernie Vince to allow him room for that statistic. Maybe we could drop Jones and Viney for his captaincy skills?

Fritsch is a couple of years younger than VdB was when he was drafted and a completely different body shape and playing style. Smith is a risk.

I suspect the issue for VdB and similar mature age recruits is the lack of body conditioning when they physically mature. A part time footballer, and part time worker, will be behind an age group peer with a full time commitment to fitness and football. And that's exacerbated with a larger body. I spoke with him at the Hall of Fame dinner last year and with a degree of sadness he said that he thought he was "cooked" back then. Kudos for the character in trying to get himself fit and live the dream but he looks on borrowed time.
