It’s not that complicated...there’s depth at the position he plays (inside mid and rebounding half-back) and he’s missed so much football that he needs to find his feet and most importantly find the pill again

I still think he’s too slow and fumbly to play on the outside, and not particularly fast enough with hands to play on the inside

He’s really stuck between positions at the moment; has a lot of work to do on his game to make it at afl level

Gaz is right on the money about Melksham.

Lyon says melbourne "needs to explain"... err no they dont.

And the last time you got involved in the club dipstick you helped set us back 8 years.

Throwaway comment from Lyon.  He needs someone to explain why Brayshaw isn't in the side?  Why?  He can't work it out for himself?

Just because he should be best 22 doesn't mean he is currently in it.  Many would feel that Jayden Hunt is in the best 22, yet he's running around for Casey.  It happens.

Slightly off topic, but what about this?

"Brayshaw’s teammate Oscar McDonald has had a tough start to the season in defence with Ben Brown kicking four goals on him last week, but Lyon backs the 22-year-old to find form."

That is utter garbage.

Good post 'jnrmac', I particularly like the dipstick comment.

To me Lyon is highly overrated as a so called football expert.

Comments like this only enhance that view.

Brayshaw’s teammate Oscar McDonald has had a tough start to the season in defence with Ben Brown kicking four goals on him last week, but Lyon backs the 22-year-old to find form.

To me Oscar has been going along pretty well and if his teammates didn't gift Brown some goals then his stats would look better...but all is good in the world, Lyon is backing him to find form.

I think most fans, myself at least would like to know the reason why a former number 3 pick is toiling away in the 2's.

Seemed to have done the majority of the pre-season, played in AFLX and both JLT games so this talk about him not playing enough footy or having a limited pre-season is rubbish. He's fantastic in the contest, great tackler with a tidy kick on both sides that makes our team better.

Yes, just absurd

Behind Alex Pearce for Freo, O Mac is the form key defender in the competition

Hypothetically - IF he sought a trade at the end of the year what would we want for him? I'd be wanting a mid-late 1st round pick but other clubs probably would be looking at a late 2nd rounders. Depends who was interested I guess.

Posted (edited)

I’d have had Brayshaw in the side over ANB, Melksham and Tyson for any of the rounds so far.

Cearly there’s something more than ‘form’ that we’re not privy to.

ANB and Melksham have been seriously underwhelming to date. And Tyson hasn’t been much better imo.

Yet none of them have been dropped.

First rounder, probably 10-18.

What is the crap about Oscar in the article? Two of Brown's goals were from frees not related to Oscar. One other goals was from a push in the back to Oscar similar to the one given by Gawn to Brown in the ruck.

And Melksham plays a different role to Brayshaw; he tags and plays defensive forward. Two roles I have not seen Brayshaw play with any success. Brayshaw would be back-up for the Oliver, Jones, Viney, Tyson, ANB and Salem role of winning the ball around stoppages.

No mention of giving baths to his first two opponents, and Brown getting gifts.  Probably outmarked by Brown once from memory.

It's just a BS SEN article written about the comments made. I'd assume someone else on the show said something about Oscar, and Garry defended him.

WCE will be looking for inside mids.

Lyon must have had his head in the stats book (when it wasn’t somewhere darker and far more unpleasant) to say that Brown kicked 4 goals ON Oscar.

Is he unable to look at a game and see what eventuates and how Brown got his goals?

At one stage he was mooted as a potential MFC coach - thank the Lord that he wasn’t, though he would have made Mark Neeld look good.

Perhaps he ain't seen the game Mr Leg is just going on statts. As well I find Sen redundant these days IMO all the changes have made it worse. I have given up on it. Will be interesting to see the ratings.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
