GAME DAY - ROUND 3

Josh

Brown is the biggest flopper since Matthew Lloyd.

Who wants to play in the Melbourne midfield,  couple of spots up for grabs.

Would need to play a little better to worry the Hawks

make that a lot better.

Their zone defense will have a field day if we bring the same delivery into the forward line next week.

How good is OMac

Not sure if serious?

Has given away two frees to Brown because he is so slow to react. And aside from the odd ‘good’ handball or good elementary spoil, he’s generally been ineffective when going up in a contest.

I can’t understand how and why at this level we consistently bomb the ball inside 50 aimlessly or torp the ball. Torp it why? We have one key forward atm.

It is completely and utterly unbelievable.

So dumb.

3 weeks in and still none of our coaches have figured out how to set up the forward line without McDonald.

We are still bombing it in and wasting opportunities.

True. If you bomb it in with no talls you must spoil and bring it to ground.

I worry that our coaches are not helping this side, but rather relying on talent and effort without  giving alternatives in game plans  or tactics.

I would even kick the ball along the ground to stuff up theur defence and counter their rebound.

My take is that at times they will kick to packs - thats part of the game..is it bombing in nope - bombing in is kicking to a pack where we are in the minority... that is not happening. We will be fine... we have the crumbers as evidenced by quarter 2... :)

We still have too many talls going up, we bomb it way too often instead of into space of favoured side.  Great example the kick to tracc for that big banana.  Still lapses where there is no crumber front and square except a norf player.  The choices/method coming insIde 50 still needs a fair bit of work but that quarter was an improvement and looked a little like the first quarter ftom last week

The Daw love-fest from Sandy and Ed is hideous.

I've got the sound off, but I wonder if Ed is a little gun shy. Making very very sure he doesn't do something stupid, like compare Daw to a fictional primate movie character.

we've been relatively small in the forward line this year, and our delivery is both appalling and not effective when we are short. Lower the [censored] eyes dumbasses.

Trying to become a running team, in game style.  We need more hard speed in the team, and create some slick ball use.

High balls should be brought to ground as loose balls. and a contest.  Hopefully we win the loose ground ball off the aerial duel, and take it away.

This. If it's the coaches job to motivate players then maybe we have the wrong players.

The most interesting subplot for me today is how our leadership responds to momentum swings.

Late in the second after North kick only their second for the term, Lewis has the ball at half forward. He looks into the middle of the ground and dribbles the ball off his foot. Bernie Vince slips over and Nathan Jones fumbles. North take it up the other end and goal. And later in the quarter, Max Gawn gives a stupid free kick away to Ben Brown and that results in a goal.

These are our leaders and they're not up to scratch when it comes to crucial moments in the game.

I'm expecting a lot more in the second half. (Yes, I am aware Lewis has the equal most touches on the ground)

We are still a far way off playing like a finals side. Our forward set up is messy, too many forwards flying for the same footy, not enough crumbers on the outside. The only time i recall a player lowering their eyes in the 2nd was lewis hitting up Trac. And our field kicking is sloppy more often than not. Blokes like Tyson, Harmes, Melksham & Lewis making costly mistakes. We are desperate for more class

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
