I think we'll need to wait for real opposition before determining the true form of any Melbourne listed players vying for a spot in the 22.

Obvious? Sure.

But I hope posters don't get too excited by numbers etc from this game.

Agreed. But it's good to see them really put away opposition. I want that ruthless edge in the senior team.

Poster on Bigfooty reporting that Rawlings was having a chat with Brayshaw at the break trying to give him a lift. Said that Gus was playing okay but looking a bit dejected.

Have watched Gus closely at a few VFL games and he always wears a serious face on the bench. A big contrast to say JKH who is full of infectious enthusiasm when on the bench. Not sure there is anything to read into it but I hope Gus does enjoy his footy.

Went down the road for a look. It is hard to guage our performances due to the fact that Frankston were shizenhausen.

Brayshaw looked uninterested but played okay.

Frost was good at half back and was short passing the ball alot.

Hannan was average.

Kent good in the second half.

The weed looked good today. Did some ruck work as well.

Baker looked okay but has to learn to control the ball better.

Spargo looks lively but is small.

King looks like he can do a bit in the forward line on top  of rucking.

There wasn't a bad player actually but as i said the opposition were no good.

Did Billy Stretch play or is he in QLD?

Stretch didn't play. Didn't see Maynard as well.

Final score:  Casey 21.18.144  Frankston  5.3.33

Goals:  Kent 4, Weideman 3, Hannan 2, Scott 2, T.Smith 2, Lefau 2, King 2, Brayshaw 1, Kennedy-Harris 1, Filipovic 1, Dwyer 1.

Thought Frost and Kent were outstanding. Brayshaw tried hard and did some sublime things. Petty, Baker & Spargo all showed promise.

nice size too

He doesn't look that big in the photos's does he, he looks like a well balanced Mid.

I had no idea he is that tall.

What i see is a balanced skilled kid, with fierce desire. Elite levels in tests.  And just beginning.  He 's a must.

We don't get that many opportunities like this, I think.

i agree. i got those measurements from a newspaper article.

he did get 100cm in the running jump. niknak has the record at 102cm so he must be reasonably tall to do that

Mykelti Lefau seems to be going well - any chance that he could be rookied as a Category B as an international player (born in NZ, I believe).

Don’t blame him. Playing at that level is beneath him and a waste of his time. If he was at any other AFL club he’d be getting a game this weekend. Unfortunately he is at Melbourne and the selection panel here has proven to make repeated mistakes and ruin development of elite young talent.

Hopefully he cracks the senior side soon and never has to look back.

Name a young player we’ve ruined by playing in the 2’s for too long in the last decade? Always the opposite.

At training Gus has shown flashes of good Footy but has always regularly made bad turnovers and hasnt shown a lot of zip. He’s missed a lot of games with injuries the last two years. A couple of weeks or even a month or so in the twos won’t hurt him

Is there a player remotely close to the fringe that 1) you like? 2) you want to do well?

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
