Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gaff is younger and is physically sound. Gaff every day of the week.

When both fit and at their best it’s a tough choice. Sloane is much better defensively and wins more clearances but is more injury prone. Based on your above post I’d also go with Gaff.

Equalisation at its best.

Sloane is off the table!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-07-11/deal-done-sloane-stays-with-the-crows

Signed a 5 year deal.

Not really on our radar so no loss to us.  But will set the perennial 'bridesmaids' (North, Blues, StK) scrambling for their next 'big fish' target.

I am so very glad that we are no longer in the discussion for every 'big fish' and focus on specific needs/targets.

One of the AFL [censored] journos, Nick Bowen I think, was 90% sure on a podcast yesterday Sloane was going to the Hawks. Nice try [censored].

I'm also happy we don't leak on what we are doing, or don't announce it in the press like Norf do.

5 years... 5...

oh... no wonder he re signed. Surely no one else was offering 5.

Wow.

I doubt any other club offered more than 3.  Hes almost 29, injury prone and gets tagged out of games too easily.

Adelaide were desperate to not lose another star so they paid way overs.

5 year deals are fraught with danger imo with long term injuries always possible (especially players late on in their careers) , I’m pretty sure Mercuri and kouta signed 5 yr deals to keep them there at the time when both at their peaks , but that never really paid off for either club in the long run

Adelaide clearly desperate

They were never going to let him go. Favourite son, fan favourite and strong leader. Given the players they've lost, 5 years would be a huge morale booster. good decision by them imo. Letting him walk would have been disastrous for the club and fans.

And let's be honest, the Saints and North in their all conquering are trying to bid competitors out of the market. Norf will land their big fish eventually.

Clubs aren't going to leave themselves exposed, I would:

- be very surprised if year 5 (and maybe year 4) weren't conditional eg minimum of games played to go on in the next year.

- expect his contract to be fronted somewhat (use money they saved from not having Lever) so years 4 and 5 won't cost them so much in salary cap terms.

And with these sort of deals who knows what has been promised post playing career.  Similar was said re Geelong about Danger's post game career, when he moved for a seemingly low contract.  And who knows what post playing tricks Carlton have pulled out of their brown paper bag to keep Murphy.

Dodged a massive bullet here. 5 years for a 29 year old who struggles to get on the park is laughable. They reckon he’ll be playing to the standard until he’s 34? He’s struggling now as it is, let alone in a few years time.

Sloanes has had a good career, but he’s probably laughing all the way to the bank now.

Now we can focus on getting a durable player who actually gets on the park and performs consistently in Gaff.

Bullet dodged. Have fun Crows hahahhahahhahahahaa

Nothing changes.

Since the days of Barassi, clubs have sought the star player, and like the Melbourne Auction market they seem prepared to pay ludicrous sums to get their man.

Its almost as if the adrenaline rush to be in the hunt gets to them. They believe their man is the answer to their prayers and they don't want to be beaten to it by another cashed up club.  ? North.

Its a high risk strategy given the likely return on investment and the high risk of injury.

Who can forget the Demon player grabs.in the 1970s such has Templeton, Molloy, Tilbrook, Moore etc. Some were better than others but generally, they disappointed and certainly did not win us a flag.

Lever is the most recent example and despite his promise, he has gone down with a knee injury that is likely to keep him out for 12 months and who knows beyond that. There are going to be a lot of nervous supporters and club officials, particularly, the bean counters who are going to be watching nervously from the stands.

I am all for targeted recruitment but we also need to ensure that there is enough money left over in the kitty to pay the money that will be offered to Demon players in coming years. Already the price of some of these guys is going through the roof.

I would rather keep Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Fritsch, Hogan and the like than risk all on an elite player from another club.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
