I actually wanted to face them full strength but wanted us full strength aswell, we lost viney now they have lost danger that’s footy for ya, 1 thing I do know we will start favorites for this 1 now

Posted (edited)

seems fair, with viney being ruled out, that they lose one of their guns too

ablett WILL play from all reports, but surely must be underdone

stanley injured too?

from the quarter or so i saw of the puddy tatts today, and a quick scan of the stats, it looks like they're susceptible to quick ball movement and fast hands in close, talls (stewart with 3), and creative small forwards

perfect :)

Making my skin crawl with the memory of what felt like five years in a row of playing a 'depleted' Hawthorn in round 1. Hopes high, set to challenge a top team on a weak day... then getting smashed by 10-15 goals.

Of course, it wasn't five years in a row, and it wasn't always Hawthorn, and it wasn't always a big loss, but that was a really awful experience. I actually think I've never personally attended a round 1 win. So I'll definitely stay away.

But all my thoughts will be on whether the Demons can avoid their infamous 'we got this' attitude.

Ablett sounds like he could still play round 1 even though he hasn't played any preseason games.

Cockatoo has been injured but they are confident he will be ready.

Crameri in doubt.

Henderson and Scott Selwood are out.

"Star defender Lachie Henderson (knee) is still on track to return some time between rounds one and four, while Scott Selwood (ankle) is on a similar timeframe.

Early rumours are that Danger has been ruled out for round 1. Will need to wait for scans.

I’d prefer to beat  them with danger as we play better against better equiped sides. I just hate girlong.

I saw he left the ground after quarter time to go home. Or did he really just duck out to have a surf in his suit?

That'd be Selwood, surely

Same as me Brendan. Wanted to face this rabble at full strength...no excuses. Even with no Viney we have the game plan and tenacity to beat them.

Selfridge will be twice as dangerous now........

Came in here to post that.

If we were at full strength Id want Danger to get up, but screw him and screw Geelong, we are missing our star mid so this was justice.

This team is not the team of 5 years ago, the cats need all their guns to win, danger almost beat as last year, off his own boot.

He really did.

I don't take pleasure in opposition teams injuries... but I'll take plenty of relief. This guy and Dusty are the biggest matchwinners in football. If he doesn't get up (I'll believe it when I see it) then we just got  our first slice of luck for the year. And it's a big one.

Dangerfield would be a massive blow for them, more than Viney for us.  I see Menegola is no certainty for Rd 1 either.  Stanley out will mean Smith will have his hands full with Gawn.

Geelong selectors will play cat (pardon the pun) and mouse with their injuries for the next two weeks. Don’t discount Dangerfield just yet.

Agreed. He died last year vs Hawthorn and came back on 5 minutes later.

well i wouldn't complain if danger misses r1. That means ablett will go in having no game time but he is a freak and cant be underestimated. Stanley hurt himself to. But we have no viney so that balances it out. Also Danger goes forward and kicks goals for them. But we know how he recovers so im not getting excited yet.

I really don’t care who is out or in for the cats.

I just hope the boys don’t think that danger is out so this will be an easy game and win.

Its all between the ears. Will be interesting to see how far we have come mentally as a team.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
