The amount of unprofessionalism from within the club since mid 90's, has almost killed us off.

Tail wagging dog, weak visions from boards, & just plain lack of courage all around the club.

This really represents a rectification of all those years of virtual contempt for the supporters; & really, the courage that should surround a footy club in the AFL game.

the fact that he's back in full training and will play for Casey next weekend is a great sign that he's pain free.  His only issue is match fitness.

I don’t understand it. The club need to be better at communicating. It’s not that hard to say; “Jack will be assessed closer to the eve of the season due to the lack of conditioning he’s had over the pre-season.”

All clubs do it 'steve', not sure why or what advantage they gain if any but we are not alone.

Why don't you ask for a personal email each week, to keep you abreast of each and every situation arising at the club

Each time I have asked about or spoken to Jack Viney in the last couple of weeks, Rd 1 was a possibility, obviously after reading Demonland and so as not to feed the MFCSS, the club has erred on the side of caution

Pleasing everbody all of the time, now there's a concept I'd like to see

yep, the sports sciece team screwed it up as well as mismanaging many other player last year. its a common theme and they needed to have fixed that department long ago and havent.

and the club doesnt treat us with any respect when it comes to accurate injury uodates. we were told viney was definately ready for round 1 by goodwin himself, but not anymore, despite no set backs. well that doesnt make sense. he has either had a set back, hasnt healed as hoped or he wss never going to make it for round 1 and supporters were mislead in order to sell memberships. l know a lot of clubs lie about their pre season injuries but l dont think its respectful to members and supporters and l'm sick of it

redleg, its more that they mismanaged a heap of injured players last season and the club consistently lies about the injury status of players. results would suggest we arent getting that part of out footy department right for a while now

The medical staff are paid for those kinds of decisions. Paid well. The lack of foresight was quite astonishing if you ask me.

 

As I understand it Viney had one injury which healed and it is another injury that has caused problems over the summer.

While you don't need a medical degree to see the risks in bringing a player back too early from a foot injury, a medical degree might be helpful to assess what the injury is and when he is ready to resume. 

Just because a player gets injured on return to playing, doesn't mean he wasn't right to play.

if a player gets reinjured or is a liability on return due to a significant lack of fitness then most times that means they returned too soon and most tmes you can blame the sports science team and coaching staff. the 1st viney injury contributed to the 2nd. the club has said this already.

also gawn, watts, salem were others to come back too soon or should have played a half or more of vfl first

Yep so he wanted to play after hardly any rehab for serious ankle injury and Now we are paying the price! typical MFC!

I really hope match fitness is the reason he is not playing rd 1 because if its not, and its healing related,

another 6 days on top of 6 months is not much insurance.

As we know, injury management is not an exact science. X-rays and MRIs etc can be used but they do not tell the full story. Particularly so with foot injuries. In normal life, people will normally allow an injury time to heal. In professional sport, there is pressure on the player and the medical staff to get the player back sooner rather than later.

I don''t think we can expect anything more than what the Demons staff are doing. 

Publicly, staff are going to hedge their bets on a likely return.

However, I am sure that staff have managed the problem conservatively.

But at the end of the day, there is always going to be some risk on return to the field of play. 

The player and staff are not going to know 100% if the time is right.

As said, there will always be a risk of re-injury. 

I suspect that the injury will be monitored week to week and that Viney is going to need some rest time during the season.

He’ll be ready when he’s ready. No point pulling your hair out over something you can’t control. I think it’s great we now have players who are more than capable of stepping in and covering when a player Iike Viney goes down.

If he’s not playing round 1 because he hasn’t enough got enough hours in his legs, Viney should just to a Hodge and put his GPS tracker onto his dog.

Viney foot is fine he is running flat out if they want he can play round 1, they are thinking a extra week of running will give him the right amount of  conditioning in his legs, he got back to running a week or 2 later then expected, what most don't understand humans are not robots, everybody heals at different rates.

The problem the selectors face with Viney is how to get match practice into him if he’s not considered right to play in Saturday’s game v Box Hill Hawks at Casey Fields because Casey has no practice match scheduled for the following weekend. The next one after this week is not until 30 March 2018 v Frankston at Skybus Stadium, Frankston.
