Listening to Gawn on SEN. Hilarious and:

  • Camp with the AFLPA was a beat up and they were already cancelling the camp before the AFLPA got involved
  • Gawn has put on 4kg since he came back
  • Hogan in great shape and might play midfield, but clearly the best forward
  • Lever talking a heap, looks like he'll be in the leadership group
  • Gawn says he's a better barrister than Jobe
  • Trac is going to play midfield and Gawn is looking forward to Danger, Selwood, Ablett v Viney, Oliver, Petracca
  • Gawn looking at wine bars in New York but unsure; looks like there might be one in Melbourne and some food trucks as well.

The best story was talking about the Simmons story. So not sure if it has been covered on here yet, but Trac had courtside seats, Harmes and Tyson were in the nose bleeds. The Trac was in the limo to NYC, H&T had to Uber there ($150 later), the uber turned up after the limo so H&T had to wait in the line outside before finally making it in. And apparently, Trac was in an area with Simmons and Le Bron that the other 76ers werent allowed into.

Barista.

Although Jobe may have done some studies trying to keep Charlie.

Other titbits:

Gawn lost 8kg prior to preseason and then has put back on 4kg since returning. His strength is still comparable to last year in the weights room.

Petracca ran a PB by 35 seconds in his 2km time trial.

A "build up" according to Maxy.

Im no expert on time trials or running,  but that sounds like a huge improvement.  I wonder how many players improve by that % across all clubs.

Good sign hes ready to move into the midfield. Though still want him playing a decent portion of the game resting full forward where he will end up being unstoppable.

Good to see Max has put some weight back on

I saw him at training pre Christmas and thought he looked like a marathon runner - too light for the hard body contact involved in ruck work.

I still don’t like players bypassing the Senior Coach. It’s not healthy in business and i doubt it is great in a Team Sport

Even stranger they went to the AFLPA and not even the leadership group. Then went to the Leadership Group very late who then went to Goody. Said the lessons from  last years camp were used all year and doing it was the proudest he’s ever been. Hmmmmm.........

He thought Goody was going to wonder what was going on but he was good about it.

Ans yet...listening to Gawn talk about it,  and his relaying of  how Goody handled it,  was the first time Ive felt comfortable about it. I had a moment of being re relieved Neeld is no longer the coach.

Not surprising after the knee reco. Prob didn’t go at full pace in the last one, but some of it would be dropping the weight and another pre season.

Still difficult to look your boss in the eye ? if you go higher behind their back.

That is the only thing that concerns me.

Goodwin has said nothing publicly and that is concerning. Max is merely speculating on what he thinks

...

In that case I don't think you need be too concerned.  I assume you refer to the AFLPA as the 'higher' body.  Nothing wrong with finding out what your rights are before talking to the boss - pretty sensible in fact.

If we the players had made finals in 2016/17 you may have a case.

But they didn’t.

If players had grievances they should have spoken to people within the club.

This should never have got out.

Sledging will be rife....

Goodwin spoke at the AGM the night the so called 'scandal' broke. Without going right in to the details I think he did a good job of calming the situation. I doubt he's been sitting on it for weeks now.

The announcement of the leadership group in the next few weeks might shed some light on this or it might be the close of it.

I know what he said at the AGM, quite possibly written with others input

I want to know what he really thinks and whether it has effected his power base going forward.

Once you break trust with someone it doesn’t come back, regardless of what a statement might say.

The finals issue is not relevant (except in making you a bit bitter about the players).  As for sledging, if they can't handle that there is no hope for the team anyway.  Think of sledging as a boot camp without the sleep deprivation.  I'm also not worried about us supporters being sledged by other supporters.

The finals issue is very important. Credits in the bank.

The players have none of those...

haven't wanted to get involved but had good mail things where not so sweet as max has made out. and that is a MASSIVE understatement.

Very interesting to see his comments on the camp.  It sounds like it was the loss of condition rather than injuries that worried most.  THat's a fair point.  For the kids who are struggling to get up to playing weight, going on camp and dropping 3-4kg is a terrible result.

Unless you are going to provide more substance than that, you are just another of many on this site who have “the good mail”, but an empty letter box.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
