Nathan Jones Media Conference

Demons1858

Recommended Posts

I tried watching the press conference but turned it off after 20 seconds, not due to any disrespect to Nate, but that press conference should have been about us embarking on our first finals campaign in 11 years.

I'm feeling a whole range of emotions right now and the start of the video just made me feel empty cause that man deserves a lot more than this club has given him.

We all deal with scenarios differently and some move on quicker than others, as my emotions slowly dissipate I will be able to concentrate on the future of this club in the months ahead but as it stands right now for me, the next 5 weeks will be excruciating.

You can't please everyone.

This thread is effectively split down the middle with people who demand someone apologise and people who say "words are meangingless".

The only thing we do now that matters is review the season to start the process of making us better. The rest is neither here nor there.

While what you say is 95% correct the troops need a few words from the people who run the club.

Saying nothing suggests they have little idea where to go from here.

you have obviously heard that old one about Justice being seen to be done!

At the end of the day it doesn't matter who fronts the media or who says what.

All that matters is that every single person involved in the failure to achieve finals, when it was all in front of us, is being reviewed.

Goodwin has done good things, but fundamentally he has been poor in getting the team up each week and even in quarters.

I rather this club stopped apologising for letting the supporters down, and start not letting us down. End of story.

Jones lost 3 or 4  contests in a row at one stage, including to Kirby,a first gamer, who goaled iirc..He looked shagged.

Gawn was down- shepherded out or plain out marked .Needs consistency of 2016 if we are going places.

Hogan was off.

TMac had a shocker.

Watts was just passable .

Jetta down on his best.

Viney was out .

Thats our leadership group not contributing.

Lewis stood up but he is an import.

Pedo was good but wasted a couple .

Garlett is hit and miss- poor last third of year.

Hannan had a very good run at afl for a few minor cameos.

Hibberd had a rare shocker.

Melksham got towelled by his man.

Vince average.

Hunt and Petracca were the only bright lights.ANB andOmac ok.

We then deserved exactly what we got over in WA.

The spiritual leaders of the club went into their shells or didn't perform to anywhere near their peak.

Demonland, I can tell you that the MFC media managers were literally assaulted with emails that were clearly written by disaffected members and supporters. I spoke with one who was deeply upset with the vitriol and nature of emails that came across her desk. The office and off field staff are hurting, the whole club is hurting. All staff were briefed this morning by PJ and Goodwin in anticipation of this. The email rsponse sent out as mentioned early in this thread was obviously in response to this.

The club captain had a presser and told us all straight that they are hurting, they realise that they let a chance slip. What else do we want,  a public flogging

For what it is worth I ran into the mother of one of our prominent players this morning and she is gutted and her son is disconolate and shattered. He wants to get out of town and be alone. He feels just as bad as we do, he is hurting and has the added burden of all the media telling him how bad the club are.

MOVE ON

Where were you during the first quarter Jones? A true captain would have been seen encouraging every teammate. I didn't see you doing it.

No heart on that ground on Saturday.

The supporters are sick of that trash - please ask for a transfer.

Larry's first post. Nice trolling dipstick.

Mate people are understandably [censored] and are using this forum to vent. I get it. You can't blame them, we're all hurting as a club. I don't agree with sending emails berating people at the club but venting online here is fine.

I've come to terms with it, still angry but can see the bigger picture and in the long run we are a young team still trending up. Hopefully with some better luck with injury next year and fewer suspensions we will give the top 4 a shake. But you have to give people time to grieve the disappointment of finishing 9th and missing finals by a whisker when we lost 5 very winnable games this year. Its gonna hurt for a while.

Kirby didn't kick a goal. Not sure what game you were watching. Kind of kills your point.

Jones was one of the few that could hold his head high. Made a few errors but was relentless in having a dip.

Really surprised Goodwin didnt take the lead on this one as he does'nt strike me as someone who would walk away from a situation like this. The end result is a collective failure which Jonesy should not take the heat for.

Someone said he was seen at the aiport today. Not sure of this was taling the pizz or not.....

Would have preferred the coach or at least the coach alongside Jonesy. The buck stops with the coach and given the performance and the season outcome it would have been sensible and fair to have Goodwin alongside Jones. To leave it all to Jones is rough.

Agree with this. Another poor move from the club. Should have shown solidarity in owning the performance.

Sending out the email for finals tickets takes the cake though.

I did not question his effort.

As usual he put in but he was beaten by some average players in contests he would normally win.

He lost a contest to pie eater Kirby which resulted in a goal.

You know what. Stuff that. They all had a whole season to conteplate this. They all had a whole season to do something about it.

Did they ?? Arguably not. So whilst you are a messenger of sorts Older D i dont buy it. Theyre acting like victims....really !!

The club, its principals, it workers its FD , its players etc could all be salivating hard won finals had they done one simple thing; brought their A grade commitment and effort all year. That might not have manifested as an A game but it would have given them their best chance.

Theyre hurting now...well [censored] me. Try being a paying supporter for 50 odd years !!

Boohoo MELBOURNE....grow some or move on .

If it happened at another club the vituperation would have been worse and not taken a decade to explode. Supporters here have been soft for decades. Most supporters are not fooled anymore. Half knew what was coming before the game and the other half about 5 minutes into the first quarter.

More Bullshite!! words mean absolutely ZILCH!

Couldn't give a fat rats clacker about players apologizing or trying to expunge the reality of what is an absolute unequivocal DISASTER.

Over this club and its Downhill skiers mental incapacity on behalf of the playing group to get the job done. Also down to coaching staff as well. Just friggen terrible!! Enough said!

Over it!

I feel for the poor people working in the offices and getting abusive emails. I don't think Bertha who makes coffee and photocopies membership forms has much blame to carry for our pathetic ending to the season.

However the players and coaches are fair game. I hope they are hurting and inconsolable. It is their fault and their burden to carry for the next 8 months. I hope it ruins their off season like it will the 42,000 members who don't get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do their job, yet still spend their hard earnt on this club.

No idea how anyone can fault Jones for this. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He fronted up, and didn't point any fingers. This bloke has given everything to this club every second since he was drafted, and has got dick all in return. If we had a few more with his attitude driving the team on the park, we would've won 16 games this year.

Well said Homsar.  Jones is the last bloke that should be receiving any animosity.  It's a whole of club [censored] up!!!!!!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
