Tom McDonald's kicking in that last quarter was a disaster. Not sure we can afford him down back. He offers a lot more up forward

damage was done in the first quarter and the maggots did all they could to get them across the line

The umpiring was reprehensible. Baffling call after baffling call. How was that a free against Pedersen after he got a clean handball away?? Ridiculous

And Essendon and West Coast do? We beat them both. We've played better than them at out peak this year. We're the 3rd youngest side in the league, and we're still in a damn good spot to make the finals.

I'm not saying they do, but we don't deserve it either. We will be making up numbers and honestly I don't want to waste yet another weekend watching us get destroyed.

We couldn't even stand up against Collingwood. Imagine us against Sydney or Port at home. Oh lord!

We didn't deserve to win but so many questionable umpiring decisions noteably in the last quarter

- Tyson clearly high tackled in front of goal (not called)

- Pedersen takes the ball from the ruck gets two handed touched and handballs to open player storming into 50, umpire prematurely blows his load on holding the ball.

I'm not gonna hate on T-Mac.

Go Crows!

And I honestly hope we don't make finals. We don't deserve to.

We don't deserve finals any more or less than we did before this game. All the teams in the bottom end of the 8 and below are there because they've dropped games.

This result is gut wrenching and a total disaster, but let's be careful not to extrapolate that in to the season being a disaster. It hasn't been.

I am so sick of seeing Melbourne players looking deflated after the game. It's your fault. You did this to yourselves. I hope it burns you in the guts the way it burns us. But gees it doesn't look like it out on the ground.

This^^^

no point being gutted at the end.

There is no way Eagles will lose at home.

Unlike us they want to play finals and crows can drop a game and still be on top.

12 wins is better than last year.

IM going to wait until we are 20 goals up in the last quarter of a gf b4 I get confident again.

Enjoy your retirement Bucks.

Pathetic reason for a football club.

Everything to play for and dish up this shite.

Lucky my 2 year old barracks for Hawthorn.

Hawthorn had nothing to play for last night except sending off a champion. And they win. They just do it.

Every time we are expected to win, we lose (Freo, North, North, Collingwood).

Yeah the same dribble will come out in the media this week.

If we make it, Port or Syd will smash us and make us more of a laughing stock.

Disgusted.

I feel the same way, although it's slightly easier as I didn't see the game today.  I got angry at my phone instead.

If we make it, then we deserve to make it and we can get out there in a fortnight's time and play without any expectations.  I believe the experience of a final will do us plenty of good in the short and long term.

I wish we didn't have to do it, but it's over to you Adelaide.

Not making finals this year or making it by 0.01% on the back of another team's failure is a failed season.

11 years. Now make it 12.

The club earmarked finals. The club pretty much failed.

Really, Demons?  Unfortunately I can believe that you were insipid and couldn't get it done when it was needed.  Lived up to expectations.  Not sure we deserve to play finals, on that performance we are only making up the numbers.  Give our spot to a team that gives a [censored], and will play for it.

Yeah, but maybe this is Goodwin's go to - he is working with what he's got - can't win when expected...Win in the finals when its not! :)

Thanks Goody for taking us along on your journey, certainly been a pleasure.

In your next chapter you might want to include how to get the boys up in the first quarter in a very important game and also maybe a tip on manning up Howe instead of allowing him  to do the only thing he knows.

It really hurts following this club sometimes!!!:(

Absolutely no pressure in either of those games. I actually think a match against Sydney over there will be good for us. No expectations at all. We get to experience first hand where we have go get to, and then we can go away after an overall good year and work to match them.

You're welcome not to watch.

Terrible.  They weren't mentally ready for the start and they lost the game in quarter 1.

tom McDonald - atrocious today

jack watts - I actually don't think he's fit enough and was atrocious also

bernie Vince - sorry, we can't let that guy have another contract as he's done.

many just watched rather than impose

im scared if we make finals what happens to us as finals intensity will melt us.

however, I feel that West Coast will now get it done.

hope our chokers enjoy there mad Monday celebration.

We are a long way from ready.

All of us here expect too much especially me.

I have to stop believing the hype the club keeps putting out.

Lets get another 2 midfielders and a ruck who can take a mark or two and well be ready.

Indeed, that will frustrate me more than anything. West Coast is tripe and will get more blown apart by Sydney or Port than we will, but they'll be the ones who get to say they made finals.

For those who watched the game - what was the problem today?  Did we look nervous early and couldn't claw our way back in?  Or did the Pies simply want it more?

Disposal by foot. The usual suspects. Outmarked when it counted and outnumbered at the contest early on.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
