What to do with Petracca?

Now leaning towards him being rested, as the corrupt AFL have given us our ninth 6 day break going into the Pies game.

If you think Tracca looks tired now, imagine him in round 23. 

Maybe they can freshen him up with  light training this week, but that may not be enough. The Brisbane game wont be an easy one, they will come at us hard.

Just seems a bit fumbly not being able to hold onto the ball.

Id send him to half back and swap possies with Brayshaw to allow him to run onto the ball and boot it deep

Brisbane is a good game for him to get some swagger back. Trac is a hard match up for most teams. Brisbane will find him to be quite a handful.

BOG Queen's Birthday, I would have thought.

Looked like a breakout game to me. 3 goals, some assists, broke the lines and, most importantly, changed the momentum our way when we were almost on the canvas.

Personally I feel Petracca has had a patchy and inconsistent year. His skills are sublime but his fitness is terrible IMO

DId you notice Pedo put his hand over Tracs mouth at one stage when he was getting frustrated with umpire decision.

He just has to realise that AFL footy is more than pure talent.

Coincidence that it was after a rest? Kid still needs to build up his tank. Dwindling burst-speed and creeping fumbles can be a consequence of growing fatigue.

Needs to be played more as a forward, maybe rotate him with Hannan for patches. The best footy he's played this year has been predominantly as a forward, he certainly didn't look like he was in the game this week.

Agree keep the Trac close to goals and tell him to kick 5.  Needs to just go hard and create havoc for defenders.  He will worry others in finals.

Yup.

Thats another alternative to resting him. Play him full forward , out of the goal square. He is very hard to match up on.

He beat Michael Hurley earlier in the season playing permanent forward.

He basically did that on the weekend - hardly got up to the wing. 

I think Tracc is one of the few who consistently looks for someone open around the F50 as opposed to sending it to the goal square.

Gawn's goal and the switch out wide to Lewis are two prime examples.

Still, he needs a rest. Sticking out like Dogs...

He is tired and he needs a break. However if we rest him this week, are we saying to ourselves that we have this win in the bag? 

We MUST win the next 2 games to play finals and then we have a week off. Unless he is injured, I think he is good enough to warrant a spot in the 22. Even as a stay at home forward. There isn't anyone in the VFL at full fitness who would give us more than Trac currently is.

How about resting him from (most of he) training this week, and playing him predominantly deep forward?

It would be a total disaster were he to be rested this week and us losing as a result. 

If we make finals ?he will join all in a week off, and if we don't he will have a far longer rest ☹️

Has to play forward in front of the ball.

needs to stand on the mark for opposition kick outs.he has a rare ability to strip the ball instead of tackling which, tackling would just result in a stoppage, pinching the footy will get you a goal.

he is Jeff Farmer like with pace and upper body strength. Can't play a small little fast bloke on him without strength and can't play a strong big bodied bloke on him without pace.

We have two massive games coming up and need all available hands on deck.

i refuse to believe you 'rest' your best available 22 players when there are the finals series on the line and everyone gets a rest in two weeks anyway

is trac in our best 22? anyone proposing we 'rest' him at this point must think he's at least borderline 22? if he's fit to play, i would want him in the side every week at the moment - his form is not near as bad as some on here are making out

There is also a week off after round 23 if we make it too, so you're quite right, resting a player now would be silly unless it's someone sore like Viney. Not enough continuity going into finals.
